19.01.2022 Today VIC NAIDOC are hosting a virtual March. This will be a great event to be apart of, so tune in and why not even listen while you take a little NAIDOC March walk yourself or with family and friends.

19.01.2022 Hey you mob! As of 22 November 2020 11.59pm there will be more easing of restrictions. There are too many to put here but if you go to http://www.vaccho.org.au/.../coronav/what-we-all-need-to-know you can get more information and links. The big change is MASKS. You can take them off outdoors and in your own home (unless you have visitors) but the minute you go inside an indoor space like someone else's home, public transport, shopping centres, shops or gyms etc. they have to come back on. You'll need to carry a mask with you all the time when you leave your home. (there are fines for not wearing masks and no one needs those with Christmas coming up!) So, it's now more important than ever we continue to: keep following restrictions keep wearing our masks when required keep getting tested It’s also really important we reach into our supports right now. If you want to chat to mob anonymously, we’d encourage you to call Yarning Safe'n'Strong on 1800 959 563. They’re available 7 days a week - all hours. Be safe you mob, and look after each other.

14.01.2022 Traditionally the Friday of NAIDOC week would be the March that starts from VAHS Fitzroy and ends at Federation Square, however, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the March will take place virtually - https://vicnaidoc.com.au/virtual-events-2020. VAHS will close on Friday 13 November so staff are able to celebrate our continual cultural connection and sovereignty of this Country with family and friends (within COVID-19 rules - https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/coronavirus-covid-19-reo).

12.01.2022 Please be aware that today there is a moderate risk of thunderstorm asthma in much of Victoria. People with current, past or undiagnosed asthma or hay fever are considered to be at risk. Having both asthma and hay fever or poorly controlled asthma increases the risk further. Those at increased risk should: avoid exposure to any storms that may emerge, especially the wind gusts that precede them... have a reliever appropriately available (as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist) remind themselves of their asthma action plan and have practical knowledge of the four steps of asthma first aid (stated below) STEP 1: Sit the person upright. STEP 2: Give four puffs of blue reliever puffer. Make sure you shake the puffer, put one puff into a spacer at a time and get the person to take four breaths of each puff through the spacer. Remember: shake, one puff, four breaths. If you don’t have a spacer, simply give the person four puffs of their reliever directly in to their mouth. Repeat this until the person has taken four puffs. STEP 3: Wait four minutes. If there is no improvement, give four more separate puffs as in step 2. Remember: shake, one puff, four breaths. STEP 4: If there is still no improvement, call triple zero (000) for an ambulance. Tell the operator that someone is having an asthma emergency. Keep giving the person four separate puffs of reliever medication, taking four breaths for each puff, every four minutes until the ambulance arrives. If you are not sure if someone is having an asthma attack, you can still use blue reliever medication as it is unlikely to cause harm. Call triple zero (000) immediately if: the person is not breathing their asthma suddenly becomes worse the person is having an asthma attack and there’s no blue reliever medication available
