24.01.2022 The anterior, minimally invasive approach for hip replacements is a technique that I am quite passionate about and even teach to other surgeons. Here’s why...

20.01.2022 We want to welcome Mr Scott Tulloch to our Victorian Orthopaedic Group team! Mr Tulloch is an Australian and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery of the knee and hip. He is actively involved in research and has published multiple papers related to sports knee surgery and speaks regularly at both local and international meetings. Scott is passionate about teaching future generations of doctors and surgeons and is involved in training medical students and advanced orthopaedic trainees. He is an asset to our team and we look forward to our bright future together.

19.01.2022 Our last patient education seminar run by Dr Daevyd Rodda and Leon Green (physiotherapist) was held at Box Hill Golf Club. The session focussed on the non operative methods of treating hip and knee osteoarthritis, and how to know when it may be time for surgery. It was a very informative session and we had some great feedback from this. Thank you to everyone who braved the cold weather and attended!

19.01.2022 Dr Daevyd Rodda was the first surgeon to perform joint replacements at Vermont Private Hospital under the Zero Out Of Pocket (ZOOP) initiative. Together with Vermont Private Hospital and Medibank, this model of care allows patients to maximise the benefit of their private health insurance with no out of pocket costs. Thanks to 9 News for covering the story! Learn more here: www.victorianorthopaedicgroup.com.au/no-gap-surgery-for-pa/

19.01.2022 Every ANZAC Day, we remember those who have made this day possible. A heartfelt thank you to the men and women who have served, fought and sacrificed for our countries. #lestweforget #anzac #standatdawn

18.01.2022 Direct Anterior Approach hip replacement surgery is a less invasive surgical technique used to perform total hip replacements. The DAA technique involves approaching the hip joint between the two muscles at the very front of the hip, whereas other techniques involve surgery from the back or side of the hip. This technique involves a smaller surgical incision and results in a speedier recovery and less post operative pain. 18.01.2022 A multi-disciplinary approach to treating osteoarthritis is vital, and this may involve care from a variety of health care professionals. Dr Rodda will work closely with your health care team to achieve the best treatment outcome for you. Follow this link for more info on the health care professionals that may be involved in your care...

17.01.2022 Motivated to start playing tennis after the Australian Open? Even if you’ve had a hip replacement, YOU CAN*! Here are the things you need to know: 1. Doubles tennis only. Doubles tennis is a safe way to get out on the court while maintaining healthy joint care. 2. Get your surgeon’s OK to play. Your surgeon will be able to assess your individual case and recommend a personalised plan to get you back on the court.... 3. No play for the first 3 months after surgery. You may feel ready to go, but your body needs proper time to heal. Don’t worry though, hip replacements don’t hold you back from life - they help you get back to enjoying it! *Not all patients will experience this type of recovery.

17.01.2022 Customised patient matched technology knee replacements add a new approach to preoperative planning. Using three dimensional MRI images (magnetic resonance imaging), Dr Rodda creates a 3D template of the knee for each patient prior to surgery. The three-dimensional images of the knee joint allow the surgeon to accurately choose the correct size for the customised implant, and plan the exact location for where the implant components will be attached. https://victorianorthopaedicgroup.com.au//customised-pati/

16.01.2022 Dr. Rodda has recently returned from an orthopaedic conference in Switzerland where he was an invited international faculty member. This was the international launch of the 'Patient Optimised Pathway App’, an App that Dr Rodda has been privileged to be involved in researching and developing, and was asked to present on at the conference. The App is aimed at providing education for patients in the pre and post op periods, aids in patient rehabilitation, and also provides essential follow up and monitoring for patients which results in improved patient outcomes. We are excited to offer this App to all joint replacement patients at Victorian Orthopaedic Group.

16.01.2022 Questions are a great place to start when considering hip or knee surgery. There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to joint replacement. If you’re wondering whether it’s time to see someone about possible surgery, we are offering bulk-billed consultations. We have some excellent recommendations for both surgical and non-surgical options based on your individual condition. Pictured: Natasha, our surgical nurse practitioner answering questions about PRP injections and pain management at our last patient seminar.

16.01.2022 I am so proud to work with people like Dr. David Brewster, who is on the frontlines of the COVID-19 battle. The effort made by himself and his colleagues at Cabrini Hospital is inspiring to all of us in the healthcare profession. Our deep and sincere gratitude to you Dave!

16.01.2022 It’s easy to take a simple pleasure like walking on the beach for granted, until you can’t do it anymore. For many suffering with OA, this is a very painful reality. Often, the anterior approach total hip replacement can help get patients back to doing things they love, quickly. I strongly recommend speaking with your Orthopaedic Surgeon about the benefits of the anterior approach.

15.01.2022 Watch orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Daeyvd Rodda's, interview on rapid recovery knee replacements! #9news #kneereplacement

15.01.2022 This month we have been focusing on knee health and for good reason! Your knee is the largest joint in your body and is made up of 4 main components: your bones, cartilage, ligaments and tendons. Because you use your knees so frequently and there are so many moving parts, knee injuries are very common. To discuss knee injuries, you should talk to your Orthopaedic surgeon and have your individual injury assessed. Don’t wait! Some injuries can create long lasting damage if they aren’t dealt with quickly. Some great resources for additional information are listed on our website: www.victorianorthopaedicgroup.com.au/Pati/Patient-education

15.01.2022 Each hip replacement performed by Dr Rodda involves a thorough and extensive planning process. The patient undergoes a CT scan of the hip. Using the results of this, a plan of the patient specific implant is created which is then further reviewed by Dr Rodda. Any modifications to the implant type, size and position of the implant are made to further improve the precision of the preoperative plan, and the guides are then created for a patient specific hip replacement.

10.01.2022 A very happy birthday to Mr Scott Tulloch! We hope you have a wonderful day! #dreamteam

10.01.2022 Did you know that if you’re suffering from knee pain there are non-surgical alternatives to assist in pain management? Non-surgical injections such as PRP or Synvisc may help to relieve pain, in some cases up to 12 months! Injections aren’t a long-term fix, but for patients who aren’t quite ready to consider a knee replacement, they can be a fantastic option.

10.01.2022 It was our absolute pleasure to be an integral part of helping these young athletes get back to the sports they love. Cabrini Health Australia Sporting Chance Foundation

09.01.2022 Great news for patients: elective surgery (hip and knee replacements) could resume as early as next week. #electivesurgery

08.01.2022 For people with debilitating osteoarthritis, an 18-month wait for public hospital joint replacement surgery is too long! Private health cover seems to be worth keeping, now more than ever...

08.01.2022 All our hip and knee joint replacement patients are provided with the Patient Optimised Pathway App for use in their pre and post operative periods. This App is customised for each patient and offers reminders, rehabilitation support and patient education. For more info please visit our website. https://victorianorthopaedicgroup.com.au/patient-optimised/

07.01.2022 This month's 'Joint School' was run by our nurse practitioner and Joshua Ma (physiotherapist from Life Ready Physio + Pilates). During these pre-surgery information sessions, patients are educated on their anaesthetic options, the surgical procedure itself, and what to expect for their recovery. They are very interactive sessions, and patients have the opportunity to ask any unanswered questions. Mr Rodda hopes that all patients would leave these sessions feeling well educated regarding their upcoming procedures and more confident and relaxed in the lead up to their surgery.

07.01.2022 The best diet for arthritis is a healthy, balanced diet. This can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight and reduce your risk of other health problems. For more info, Arthritis Australia has some fantastic resources available. We highly recommend searching through their website and keeping yourself well educated! https://arthritisaustralia.com.au//living-/healthy-eating/

05.01.2022 Vermont Private Hospital is the first to offer a new style of private health insurance arrangement guaranteeing that patients needing joint replacement can have their surgery with no out-of-pocket costs. Dr Daevyd Rodda was the first surgeon in Australia to perform a joint replacement under this 'Zero Out Of Pocket' initiative.

05.01.2022 Dr Rodda believes that education is key to successful patient outcomes. Before your surgery, you will be provided with a small group education session regarding what to expect for the procedure, your anaesthetic and your rehabilitation. These are interactive and relaxed sessions, and you are welcome to ask any questions that you may have to ensure you feel confident and well equiped prior to your procedure.

05.01.2022 Our whole team is happily returning to surgery; helping to relieve pain, one joint replacement at a time! Happy International Nurses Day!

04.01.2022 Way to go Mr Tulloch! An impressive 40 push-ups added to our count. We are raising awareness for mental health, which affects so many of those who suffer from osteoarthritis. When your pain keeps you from enjoying life and partaking in simple things like mild exercise, it’s easy to feel trapped and like the walls are closing in. You can always reach out to friends or loved ones and please know that we are here for you and you are not alone! #vogpushupchallenge #pushforbetter #mentalhealthawareness
