12.01.2022 DET School Nurses PSNP and SSNP News Flash DET School Nurses Primary and Secondary School Nursing Programs COVID-19 As foreshadowed in the Newsflash of 23 March 2020, ANMF (Vic Branch) has met and been... in regular communication with representatives from the Department of Education and Training to develop Guidance to support school nurses to amend the delivery of the Primary School Nursing Program (PSNP) and the Secondary School Nursing Program (SSNP) in the context of COVID-19. Consistent with related Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) guidance, the aim of these changes is to: Contribute to the reduction of COVID-19 infection and transmission rates for children and all staff (including school nurses) by reducing face to face contact wherever possible through adopting remote modes of service delivery. Ensure continued delivery of the PSNP and the SSNP through adapting face to face school nursing services to ensure appropriate social distancing and compliance with transmission reduction measures. Ensure that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is prioritised and used in accordance with current DHHS advice at https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/health-services-and-general-pra ANMF had anticipated this Guidance to be finalised and distributed to all school nurses by this point, however ANMF has been advised by representatives of DET that: 1. On 14 April 2020, school nursing managers will be provided clear and targeted recommendations for implementing amendments to service delivery of the PSNP and the SSNP which support both programs to be delivered in accordance with the transmission reduction measures recommended in COVID-19 Guidance provided by DHHS. 274/2020 2. Further, that additional broad Guidance will be developed incorporating the wider school health and wellbeing being teams. ANMF understands that school nursing managers are liaising with you directly regarding arrangementsfor the resumption of Term 2 on 14 April 2002 (a non-student day) and expect that ‘school nurses who can work from home, will work from home’. In the interim, ANMF (Vic Branch) has prepared and collated an updated and comprehensive Guidance regarding managing COVID-19 in a health care setting. This is available at http://www.anmfvic.asn.au/coronavirus. Queries in relation to this matter can addressed to ANMF Professional Officer, Belinda Clark, via email [email protected]. See more
