17.01.2022 It is with a very heavy heart that on behalf of the #victorianseafood community we say thank you to our 10 remaining Gippsland Lakes fishers. Today is their last day of providing fresh, local and extremely healthy seafood for all Victorians. 4th, 5th and 6th generational fishers who have been forcefully removed from their livelihoods. Such a sombre moment to farewell some amazing characters who in the face of all adversity have held their heads high, and represented themselve...s respectfully at all times. So lets raise your glass, can, or whatever and celebrate the amazing fishers, their employees and families of the Gippsland Lake. Gone, but never forgotten. Thank you to you all, from Seafood Industry Victoria and all of Victorias seafood consumers.

This permit initiative is a forward step in assessing and realising potential of commercial catch throughout Victoria. We are working with the Victorian Fisheries Authority to ensure our commercial fisheries development is promoted and celebrated, which starts now. There may be some creases we are ironing out to en...sure viable operations and keeping local seafood available and affordable.
