25.01.2022 R U OK Day is an awesome example of reminding each of us to check in with our friends, loved ones, neighbours, colleagues and extended networks. Now more than ever, it’s important that we speak up and seek support when we are not feeling ourselves. We are in this together and together we can overcome whatever challenges are thrown our way Let’s keep these conversations going beyond our yearly reminder of R U Ok Day and look to embed them in to our daily practices. ... As always, the VPS (virtual) door is always open to our #melbourne community and beyond. We will forever remain a safe, judgement free space to talk about anything and everything. We are here to listen and provide advice and contacts for some extra help if need be. With love, from your VPS Fam #StayConnected #RUOKDay #MoreToSay #ruok
21.01.2022 @mentalhealthaustralia is funded to run a national awareness campaign for World Mental Health Day on October 10. This year’s campaign was developed with the aim of challenging negative perceptions around mental illness and encouraging people to take a more positive view on mental illness. We can support the campaign by making #MentalHealthPromise. The team at VPS make a #mentalhealthpromise to encourage more conversations and education for its staff, participants and community. We will focus on self-care, bringing people together and aim to further our working partnerships with mental health services across our amazing #melbourne community
20.01.2022 Happy weekend everyone We hope you’re surrounded by good food and company as lots of us return to lockdown. We’ve made it through once and we will again Today, we are going to make an absolute classic that is trifle Ingredients: ... * 1 x 85 gram packet of raspberry jelly (or any jelly flavour of your preference) * 420 grams (approximately 6 cups) store bought sponge rolls (or Madeira cake cut in to slices) * 4 tablespoons cranberry juice * 500 grams (approximately 4 cups) fresh strawberries, raspberries and blueberries * 480 ml (2 cups) custard * 360 ml (1 and 1/2 cup) whipped cream Equipment: * Two large mixing bowls * Kettle * Square baking tin * Chopping board * Sharp knife * Large glass serving bowl * Tablespoon * Refrigerator * Measuring cup Instructions: 1. Make your raspberry jelly in advance according to packet instructions. Pour it into a small rectangle or square baking tin, so it’s roughly 1 inch high. Leave it in the fridge to set. 2. Begin by prepping everything. Chop your strawberries in half and then combine with raspberries and blueberries. Roughly chop your sponge cake into 1/2 inch slices. And chop your jelly into 1 inch squares. 3. To assemble, line the bottom of a 12-cup trifle bowl with half (approximately 3 cups) of your cake slices. Press slices up along the sides of the bowl (see photo below). Drizzle cake slices with 2 tablespoons of cranberry juice. 4. Add one third (approximately 1 and 1/3 cups) of the fresh fruit on top of cake, along with half of the jelly squares. Then, pour over 1 cup of custard. 5. Repeat with the remaining cake slices, drizzling over 2 tablespoons of cranberry juice again. Add one third of fresh fruit and all the remaining jelly squares. 6. Pour over another 1 cup of custard. Scatter the remaining fruit over the top. Cover the top with plastic wrap and leave in the fridge for at least 4-6 hours or even better, overnight. 7. When you’re ready to serve, add whipped cream on top. Enjoy!

18.01.2022 What is Groupthink? Groupthink refers to the psychological phenomenon that occurs within a team or a group of people, in which the desire for conformity, group harmony or conflict avoidance results in an erroneous or poor decision-making process and ultimately deviant outcome. Why does Groupthink happen? The main aspects that affect Groupthink according to Janis (1972) are: ... High group cohesiveness Although that having a cohesive group might sound as a must in order to achieve long term success, it is one of the main factors that leads to Groupthink. Members of the team avoid to express their opinion in order to avoid any potential conflict with other team members. Structural issues A lack of impartial leadership, lack of methodological processes and high level of homogeneity of members’ ideology or social backgrounds can lead to Groupthink. Situational context In the case when finding a consensus is extremely difficult or there are other factors like time pressure, moral dilemmas or fear of failure affecting the decision-making process, group members can tend towards conformity. How can we minimise the risk of Groupthink? Recent research suggests that one of the main factors in mitigating Groupthink can be group problem solving, so the process of involving team members in an analytical decision-making process. Providing a rational process, variety of thoughts and perspectives, robust methodology and efficient problem solving can result in a reduced risk of Groupthink!

14.01.2022 VPS Values: Respect The word respect comes from the Latin word respectus meaning attention, regard or consideration and is exactly what defines us at VPS. At the centre of our everyday approach is the maximum dedication to our participants, staff and stakeholders beliefs and values and dignity. Not less important, we do respect the environment!... Here at VPS we believe that every person as a human being deserves respect. Every human being is different, and differences are positive and needed because they shape our identity. In a way they determine who we are but the most important aspect to understand is that as members of a society we are all equal. We provide respect in the first instance by valuing and honouring every person with words and more importantly with actions. A lot of time and efforts are invested at VPS in enabling every person to feel safe, to be able to express themselves without the fear of being judged, humiliated or discriminated against. We encourage an environment where everyone is respectful of others considering that being respected and respecting ourselves increases the person’s self-esteem, self-efficacy, mental health, and total well-being. Respect is where everything starts and from our point of view, it never ends !

13.01.2022 Today on Tech Tuesday we are going to be talking about a windows specific feature that I have found has made my life much more organized! This is a hidden feature that you might not know even exists, but with some quick key presses will make your computer life much better. This feature is specific to Windows, so whilst Macs might have a similar feature, these shortcuts wont work for our Apple friends ... The first Key we need to be aware of, as this is involved in all our shortcuts today, and that is the windows (WIN) key! Generally located down there on the bottom left next to the Alt key with the icon of four small squares (that might be wavey if your computer is a little older). The first step we need to do is hold down the windows key and press the TAB button but before we do that, remember that Esc will help you return from what is about to happen! If you’re following along your whole screen might have just flown away and looked something like the first screenshot I have attached If you are back, I see you have found that the escape key will get you back where you need to be which is great! If we then go back and hit the +New Desktop button in the top right corner You’ll see that a whole new Virtual Desktop has been created! This works like a regular desktop and whilst in the WIN + TAB screen, you can drag any windows you have open into the new Desktop to keep them separate. You can also rename the Desktop if you like, as you can see I’ve named my first one Communication instead of Desktop 1 so that I know what each desktop is used for and can quickly navigate to the correct one, keeping them free of clutter by only having related applications open. The last tip about virtual desktops is how to navigate quickly from one to the next without having to use the WIN + TAB menu. Hold down WIN + Ctrl and then hit either the left or the right arrow key. This will navigate you to the next desktop in that direction! For example, if I were on my Communication Desktop, I could hit WIN + CTRL + Right and it takes me directly to Desktop 2! I usually keep anywhere from 4-5 different virtual desktops open for various tasks that I am working on, so I can group my word documents and Chrome tabs and not have to spend 10 minutes clicking through to find the right ones That’s all for today! I hope you learned something useful and I’ll see you next week!
