24.01.2022 Friday marked the 10th year of Wear it Purple Day. Wear it purple is an event, that helps support teenagers who are being isolated, bullied and harassed, due to their sexuality, or gender identity. This community has decided to stand up and speak for those who are being targeted due to their sexuality and gender identity. Wear it purple also envisions the importance of encouragement, empowerment and emphasis on making effective change and here, our principal team are pictur...ed wearing purple to support this cause.

18.01.2022 Some more photos of our staff members wearing purple to support 'Wear it Purple' Day.

14.01.2022 It is my pleasure to announce to you all the success of a group of year 10 students who have taken part in a program called Innovation Nation run by FYA (Foundation for Young Australians) they have come first! Twelve secondary schools from Victoria & New South Wales participated. The students attended a series of social entrepreneurship workshops and had professional mentors guiding them, along with Grant Anderson. The program started late January and students have spent many... hours developing a video & an extensive business report for their social enterprise called ACTVSM. Their enterprise is designed to stimulate conversation about racism & to ultimately stop it in our community. They plan to design & print t-shirts with messages to achieve this goal. They have won a total of $2,500.00 to develop their idea. Our Year 10’s presentations really stood out from other schools & they represented our school well. They are: Alaui Maiava 10C, Noel Mangula 10B, Toimata Tamati 10B & Siniva Maiava 10B. Please support our students by purchasing their T-shirts when they are available.

13.01.2022 Exciting things are happening at Victoria University Secondary College with the news that builders SJ Higgins have been appointed to the Cairnlea campus upgrade project. The $23.9 million project will see the campus receive a new learning neighbourhood, performing arts building and STEAM building. That’s a lot to look forward to, especially after seeing these designs! Work on this project will be starting in a reduced way, with a limited onsite workforce in line with industr...y regulations. You can keep an eye out for updates by visiting https://go.vic.gov.au/8DYGi5

05.01.2022 Hello Students of VU Secondary College! I hope you are all well and surviving the lockdown. I'm sure its been a tough road but hopefully we will get to the other side soon. As you are aware, during the various stages of lockdown, the School and Our service felt it was best that the Doctors-in-Schools Program would be provided remotely for the protection of student & staff's health. ... To date there have not been many students calling us which usually is a good thing if we assume that you are well however I also wonder if it's because some of you might be a little shy?! I do completely understand if this is the case as most of you have never met Dr Daniela or I before so its like picking up a phone and calling someone you've never met before to share some super personal information?? I guess that's not absurd at all! Well I'm here to remind you that WE ARE STILL HERE for you. No matter how minor or great your question or issue is, how silly you think it might be.. Its OK... nothing we haven't heard before, seriously J Our service is like a normal GP service, except we are focussed on all areas of youth health. It's completely confidential (with the exception of if we feel you or someone else in in danger of being hurt then we would have to act on this to protect that person). To get in contact with us, you can call or text the Doctors-in-Schools Mobile number which is 0491 174 821 on a Monday and I will call you back. Now that the world has gone digital we thought we should step it up and offer video- calls in addition to the voice calls. You can choose which ever method you feel comfortable with. Even if the first one is a phone call then later you decide you would like a video call, that is fine as well. I will send you some information on how we are going to set up the video-calls soon. I know it can be a tough time with not being able to see your friends/loved ones and you may be stressed with school work or exams (or other things) but hang in there and please reach out if you need someone to talk to. I will be sending regular emails with some helpful information for your health. Take care. Jess Nurse for the Doctors-in-Secondary Schools
