25.01.2022 History has been made. Aboriginal communities in Victoria are the first in the country to elect their First Peoples’ Assembly representatives. After counting the preferences of every voter, the Assembly election results are in. The provisionally elected members are (in alphabetical order): ... METRO Esmerelda Glenda Bamblett Muriel Pauline Bamblett Rueben Berg Carolyn Briggs Matthew Burns Tracey Evans Trevor John Gallagher Ngarra Murray Alister Thorpe SOUTH WEST Sissy Austin Michael (Mookeye) Bell Jordan Edwards NORTH WEST Jacinta Chaplin Raylene Ivy Harradine Jason Kelly NORTH EAST Geraldine Atkinson Natarsha Bamblett Leanne Miller SOUTH EAST Peter Hood Alice Ann Pepper Kaylene Williamson Congratulations to every Candidate those elected, and those not. Over 70 Traditional Owners put their hand up across the state to lead Treaty discussions. You are all leaders. You have much to contribute as the journey continues. The gender quota was not applied in any region, due to the number of female candidates elected without the quota taking effect. These are 21 of the 32 Assembly seats. The inaugural Assembly meeting will be held on 10 and 11 December 2019, at Parliament House in Melbourne. The meeting will be available via livestream. If any Community members would like more information, please contact the Commission on 1800 TREATY (1800 87 32 89).

12.01.2022 A big milestone was hit yesterday, Jill was invited to the 2nd National Aboriginal Press Club where she was invited to share the Treaty journey so far. In her speech, she said: Treaties are about justice and hope for a world where our cultures are embedded in the fabric of these lands. Where everyone can speak some Language. Where our knowledge and our authority in protecting these lands is at the centre of everything that happens. A world where we as Aboriginal people are ...given the respect we deserve. Jill also formally presented the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria declaration to Minister Gavin Jennings. This time next week, the Assembly will have met for the first time. Be sure to follow our Facebook page and watch the live stream to hear your Assembly members speak about what they want to achieve through Treaties, and how they will empower Aboriginal people and communities in future Treaty discussions.

06.01.2022 It’s official. Counting of the votes for the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria commenced yesterday, Thursday 31 October. Once again, huge thanks to all Candidates who have put their hands up to lead these important discussions. And the thousands of Aboriginal people across the state who cast their vote. Votes are being counted region by region, and results will be announced shortly. So stay tuned.... Few additional things you might want to know about how your votes will be counted: All votes received are held securely with 24 hour security. All Candidates were invited to have a scrutineer. A scrutineer is an independent person, appointed by the Candidate, who observes votes being manually counted. The first Assembly meeting will be held over two days on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 December 2019. This historic event will be held in the Legislative Council Chamber of Parliament House and will available via live stream. See media release for more information. https://victreatyadvancement.org.au//self-determination-ar
