21.01.2022 Is everyone looking forward to the next Video Shop Daze post? This week, M.C. Jay (The Love Doctor) revisits the rollerskating bloodsuckers of 1988's FRIGHT NIGHT PART 2 #yesterdayoncemorealloveragain
19.01.2022 Apparently, it's Rex Manning Day, so to celebrate, this week's Video Shop Daze post will revisit EMPIRE RECORDS (1995) - a film that is so strongly associated with the brightly-lit final decade of the twentieth century. It's also a film that I feel I should have more of an emotional connection with. Maybe this blog post will rectify that situation. Stay tuned! #yesterdayoncemorealloveragain
16.01.2022 Okay, the next Video Shop Daze post is arriving soon. Well, it's been so long. And M.C. Jay has been putting out fire ... WITH GASOLINE! #yesterdayoncemorealloveragain
14.01.2022 Deadly Strangers is a forgotten entry into the field of rural British horror. Indeed, the flick had flown under the radar of this most dedicated fan of that sub-genre until he stumbled upon it by accident, one appropriately dark and stormy night. The movie opens one overcast (c’mon, it is the Old Dart) Sunday afternoon. Belle (Hayley Mills) is hitching a ride to visit her home town. 11.01.2022 What’s with today, today? The answer to that question may remain eternally elusive. Nonetheless, for any ‘90s teenager, the question’s source will be forever recognisable it’s Empire Records. Allan Moyle’s coming-of-age dramedy barely registered at the box office when it was released back in 1995. Critics tended to dismiss the pic as an excuse to hawk a soundtrack album (an inversion of the soundtrack album being used to market the film). 08.01.2022 Anyone who came of age during the ‘90s will remember My Best Friend’s Wedding. Or at least, they’ll remember the box in their local Blockbuster. Who could forget the sheer pervasiveness of that cover, featuring a slyly smiling Julia Roberts hovering over a wedding cake? Much of the buzz surrounding this movie circulated around not the title best friend, but the Gay Best Friend (Rupert Everett).
