24.01.2022 There's certainly no shortage of talent in the arts and crafts department! Our residents have been making wind chimes from common household items lately, and we think they look absolutely beautiful! These are only a work-in-progress for now - stay tuned for the finished products down the track!

23.01.2022 The wet weather is keeping us indoors but we're still smiling! There's plenty of things to do around our facility, with our Activity Staff busy planning some fun and games. Soon the hallways will be filled with laughter!

21.01.2022 Each month we talk to a different staff member to find out a little bit more about them. Recently we spoke with Joanne Doudle - a nurse with us at Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel - and asked her a few fun questions including what her quirky habits are and what superpower she would choose. We discovered she enjoys pulling weird faces, would love the power of invisibility, and that the meal she could eat every day was pizza.... Thanks for everything you do for our residents, Joanne. We loved learning more about you outside of the Hostel

19.01.2022 It was third time lucky for our staff and residents today as the big open-air Elvis concert we have been planning for ages finally went ahead! Having twice been called off due to the weather, all the residents who joined us for the show enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea and some wonderful entertainment.

19.01.2022 We're still reliving just how awesome it was to get outside in the fresh air last week and watch a wonderful Elvis concert! Here's a small snippet of what we got to experience - the Elvis impersonator was very good and all our residents commented how lovely the afternoon was!

17.01.2022 We're very excited to welcome some new staff members on board at Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel! Annaleigh, Brady, Kadek, Lynda and Lachlyn - we know our residents are going to love you and that you've already started building meaningful relationships within our Hostel. Welcome, team!

17.01.2022 VISITATION UPDATE The Department of Health has released the latest Visitor Access Code (VAC) which provides guidelines for visitation within Residential Aged Care Facilities. Read about how it affects you at the link below

15.01.2022 We'd like to wish a big Happy Birthday to valued Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel staff member, Leonie Hunter, who celebrated her 21st birthday today! Along with a beautifully decadent cupcake, we celebrated with her by learning a little more about her. How are you celebrating your 21st?... Surprise birthday dinner (that I already know about ). What is your favourite party food? Minties or lollies. What are you scared of? Balloons. What do you love about working at Viet Vets? Learning something new every day. If you were trapped on a desert island, what three items would you hope you had with you? Food, clothes, and photos.

14.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE Due to the increased community transmitted COVID -19 cases NSW health have instructed that effective immediately all visitors and staff MUST wear a surgical mask when in the facility. At this stage no other changes to visitation have been implemented however please be aware that this could change... Please ensure if you are unwell you do not visit the facility If we ensure that we adhere to these rules we give ourselves the best chance of reducing the risk of COVID-19 from entering our facility Regards Justin Dover Chief Executive Officer

13.01.2022 Our CEO, Justin Dover has penned an open letter to our amazing staff. We encourage you to read his letter in full, at a time when our dedicated team is working incredibly hard to keep our residents healthy and happy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------... 2020 has seen the staff of Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel show new levels of commitment to our residents. COVID-19 has thrown enormous challenges to each and every one of our staff, all of whom have stepped up. Our organisation does not operate without committed staff. The way you have all looked outside the square and done whatever it takes is a credit to you all. Since the beginning of COVID-19, each of you have looked at what we need to do for residents and the task has been completed. Your job description did not come into your decision, something needed to be done and you did it. All staff from the front office, administration, maintenance, kitchen, cleaning, laundry, and nursing staff have all gone above and beyond. You have been the surrogate family to our residents, particularly when there were long periods of no visitation. When you were unable to take your own planned leave due to COVID-19 restrictions, you did not complain. Rather, you embraced this new world and looked to our residents to determine ‘how can I assist them?’ When staff were isolating whilst waiting for COVID-19 results, many of you worked extra shifts. Some of you missed important family functions to ensure our resident needs were met. Without each and every staff member contributing as you have, we would not have made it through this incredibly trying year. Thanks you for all you have done. Merry Christmas to you and all your families and let's look forward to a better 2021!! Justin Dover Chief Executive Officer

12.01.2022 The only thing better than coffee and cake with loved ones - sharing it in our beautiful courtyard!

11.01.2022 V-NEWS IS HERE We can’t believe how quickly October passed it must have been all the fun we had! From Halloween celebrations to photoshoots, visits, and everything in between, it was a very busy month! Find out what we got up to in our V-News update for October!

10.01.2022 The spooky season has brought out the best in our residents and staff, as we celebrated Halloween with costumes, fun, and games around the hostel! It was a little too wet for us to hold the concert we were planning, but that didn't stop us from getting into the spirit of the scariest day of the year!

09.01.2022 While we were unable to host a ceremony given the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel still managed to recognise Remembrance Day last week in a very special way. Our resident, Frank Hill proudly displayed his medals and suit on the day - a sage reminder that the sacrifices made for our country by servicemen and women is never forgotten.

09.01.2022 A handful of very lucky residents took part in our first bus trip outside the facility since COVID-19 yesterday, and we couldn't have asked for a better day to do it! The sun was shining and the birds were singing as our residents saw the most picturesque parts of Norah Head, Wyee, and The Entrance, even catching glimpses of the ocean along the way! There were no stops, to comply with social distancing restrictions, and we could only allow a limited number on the bus, but the change of scenery was truly wonderful

09.01.2022 A couple of friendly faces joined us this week from the Toukley Neighbourhood Centre Inc, delivering some very special items for our residents! Anne Marie and Jo could only come to the foyer, but they brought with them some handmade blankets and, on loan, three Samsung tablets for our Activity staff. We know our residents love the blankets - they're so warm and cosy - but the tablets will also help us to connect our volunteers, who aren't able to visit the facility, with o...ur residents virtually. Thanks so much for the visit, guys! We loved seeing you again.

08.01.2022 At the going down of the sun, and in the morning. We will remember them.

07.01.2022 It's beautiful moments like this that put a smile on our faces every day! Walking down the corridor recently we found Clinical Manager, Cal Cowan sharing a hug with our resident, Shirley. Cal does so much for the residents at Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel - we are lucky to have her and love seeing moments like this!

06.01.2022 VISITATION UPDATE Following advice from the NSW Department of Health, we have chosen to relax restrictions on visitation to our facility. For more information on how you can visit your loved one, please click this link https://bit.ly/3kwxuUr

06.01.2022 After our Samsung tablet delivery recently from our friends at the Toukley Neighbourhood Centre, resident Shirley Stepien was one of the first people lucky enough to be able to spend some quality virtual time with volunteer, Janelle! Shirley was visibly teary as the two friends caught up and chatted about their favourite rock cake recipes. With COVID-19 restrictions, our volunteers haven't been able to visit recently, so it was wonderful to be able to reconnect with them. We can't wait to get more residents involved in this fantastic project!

06.01.2022 For many months the Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel team has been unable to hold staff meetings onsite due to COVID-19 restrictions, so last week we enlisted our local RSL, The Ary Toukley, to help us! With plenty of room and all necessary health and safety measures adhered to, we were very thankful to The Ary for helping us out. Better yet, as a small token of our appreciation for all their hard work and dedication recently, we gave a bar of happiness (sorry, we mean chocolate!) to each staff member

05.01.2022 Today is International Day for Older Persons - a chance for us to celebrate the cheeky, loving, generous and warm people in our lives. Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel would like to extend our gratitude to the residents who make our days so full of life, laughter and love! We can't wait to come in to work each morning to spend the day with you!

05.01.2022 IMPORTANT VISITATION UPDATE With escalating COVID-19 cases the NSW Department of Health has instructed that until at least 11.59pm on Wednesday 23rd December all NSW residential aged care facilities must exclude visitors . We understand that this is disappointing however please understand that these steps are being taken to reduce the risk of COVID 19 from entering the facility ... Please note, In accordance with the visitor access code exceptions to this restriction will apply for residents who are palliaiting . Once we receive further information we will post a further update in the morning.

04.01.2022 EXTRA, EXTRA! Read all about it! Did you see us in the latest edition of the Coast Community Chronicle? Keep an eye out for a copy so you can read all about how our partnership with the Toukley Neighbourhood Centre is helping our residents keep in touch with those who matter to them

01.01.2022 Is there anything quite like the smell of a fry up on the BBQ?! Our staff at Vietnam Veterans Keith Payne VC Hostel understand that sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference, so recently we surprised our residents with a freshly cooked bacon and egg breakfast. Everyone said it was absolutely delicious!
