25.01.2022 BREAKING: $1.5 MILLION INJECTION FOR MOUNT BUFFALO The State Government has this morning announced it will invest in the future of Mount Buffalo as a 12-months-a-year tourism destination through new eco pod accommodation. As part of the government’s $2.7 billion Building Works package, the Mount Buffalo community and its visitors will benefit from a $1.5 million injection to build wilderness pods, which will provide a unique mountain-top luxury accommodation option in t...he Alps. The eco pod investment comes as Parks Victoria prepares to instigate an Expression of Interest (EOI) process to seek private investment for a cafe within the iconic Mount Buffalo Chalet. The EOI proposal is for a year-round café in the front part of the Chalet, which would offer regional produce along with self-guided tours of the Chalet ballroom. Mount Buffalo attracts more than 230,000 visitors every year and the addition of a new accommodation option and potential new café will attract more visitors in summer to hike, camp and kayak in the heart of the state’s northeast, supporting the local economy and jobs. The potential for a café and environmentally-friendly accommodation were raised after the Alpine Shire Council undertook a business case assessment, funded by the Victorian Government, to help realise Mount Buffalo National Park’s potential to become a year-round destination. Development of the Chalet is subject to planning requirements and the Government is working with the Alpine Shire to ensure any planning restrictions are resolved ahead of the EOI process expected to commence in late 2020. 25.01.2022 Due to the Stage 3 COVID-19 restrictions for the state of Victoria and the border closure with NSW, we have made the difficult decision to suspend lift operatio...ns at Hotham and Falls Creek, effective Thursday, 9 July through at least 19 August. We recognise the impact this has on our guests, employees and communities and did not make this decision lightly. However, we are focused first and foremost on health and safety, following local health guidelines and doing our part to support efforts across Victoria to address the recent rise in coronavirus cases. We will continue to assess the situation, follow the guidelines of the state health authorities in evaluating if it is advisable or feasible to reopen either resort this season. Perisher remains open and is unaffected by this decision. All lift ticket, lesson and rental reservations at Hotham and Falls Creek will be refunded with no requirement for guests to contact us. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this incredibly challenging time. Learn more here bit.ly/LiftOpsSuspended

04.01.2022 BE KIND, STAY HOME | We know that visitors love the Alpine Shire, and we would normally welcome them with open arms. The Easter long weekend should be a hive of activity. But these are not normal times. This is something very different. Our message is very different. Instead of welcoming visitors, now we ask, for the sake of our communities, please stay home. If you live here, consider whether your reason to leave home is truly essential. Do you need to be out?... Take this time to be with your family, to slow down, to forget your to-do list. You have time now. Unprecedented time. What have you always wanted to do, but have never had the time? Find other ways to connect with people. And now, more than ever, be kind. We’re all in this together. Read a message from Alpine Shire Council Mayor Peter Roper and Alpine Health Board Chair Christine Walker: https://www.alpineshire.vic.gov.au//message-alpine-shire-c
