25.01.2022 Greater Brisbane lockdown ends tonight Greater Brisbane’s strict lockdown will end at 6pm tonight. But the need for some sensible precautions will remain in the Greater Brisbane hotspot, and for people who have been in the Greater Brisbane hotspot since January 2, for a further 10 days.... Until 1am, Friday January 22: MASKS Must be worn in indoor places including shopping centres and supermarkets, gyms, workplaces where people cannot socially distance and where it is safe, places of worship, libraries, public transport, taxis and ride share vehicles Must be carried at all times Are not required to be worn when outdoors at a safe distance from other people (for example, walking a dog), in private vehicles or doing strenuous exercise BUSINESSES AND VENUES Indoors: 1 person per 4 sqm Outdoors: 1 person per 2 sqm Seated eating and drinking only Smaller venues up to 200 sqm: 1 person per 2sqm up to a maximum of 50 No dancing except for weddings GATHERINGS Up to 20 in homes and public spaces Weddings: up to 100. No restriction on dancing Funerals: up to 100 Indoor concert venues or theatres: 50% capacity or 1 person per 4 sqm whichever is greater Outdoor stadiums: 50% capacity with COVID-safe plans Restrictions on visits to hospitals, aged care, disability accommodation and prisons remain. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the gradual easing of restrictions follows the best health advice. The evidence tells us the lockdown has done its job, the Premier said. Dr Young has asked for these further 10 days of measures in the Greater Brisbane area. It’s better to be safe than sorry and it’s better to be sure. Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said this was the first step in easing out of the lockdown restrictions. We must not get complacent, Minister D’Ath said. This decision was not made lightly. We know this new variant is much more contagious, which is why it is so important we continue to have some restrictions in place for a short period of time. We must remember why we are doing this to protect ourselves, and the people around us, especially those most vulnerable. Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the measures mirror those in other states. The pandemic is still with us, Dr Young said. We have achieved so much this past weekend. It’s important we come out of it carefully and sensibly.

At 3.15pm on November 13, two 17-year-old boys were travelling on a jet ski eastbound along Cornmeal Creek when a group of people allegedly threw large rocks at them from the Duporth Avenue Bridge.... 24.01.2022 Cabinet’s first meeting to be on the Sunshine Coast The Palaszczuk Government’s first Cabinet meeting of the new term will be held in Caloundra next Monday, November 16th. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP said it was appropriate that her new Ministry would meet on the Sunshine Coast which had shown such strong support for her Government at the recent election.... It was a tremendous honour to receive the trust of the people of Caloundra who chose Jason Hunt to join my team for this next term - along with Rob Skelton in Nicklin pending the ECQ’s final determination, Ms Palaszczuk said. And just to the south, Ali King in Pumicestone is another important addition to my Government. We will get straight down to business with a Cabinet meeting in Caloundra on Monday to start the process of implementing our election commitments, just days after ministers were sworn in. The Sunshine Coast is highly valued by my Government and I want to thank the people of the area. I know many voters would have chosen Labor for the first time and I promise to work every day to honour their trust as our economy recovers and grows from COVID-19. I also know that Queenslanders throughout the entire state have given us a great responsibility for the next four years, and I will ensure that we respect that by also travelling to other regions. The incoming Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said it would be a great pleasure to host Cabinet on the Sunshine Coast. The Sunshine Coast is a key business, tourism and primary production region with a growing population, Mr Hunt said. During the election campaign we made it clear that a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government would focus on the social, economic and infrastructure needs of this area. We’ve committed more doctors, nurses and health staff for the Sunshine Coast, a new ambulance station in Caloundra South, more new schools, new facilities for the Mooloolaba TAFE and an expansion of the Sunshine Coast Stadium. Rob Skelton said it would be an honour to represent Nicklin as part of the Premier’s Sunshine Coast team, once the Electoral Commission has finalised the result. Holding the very first Cabinet of the new term here is a testament to the people of the Sunshine Coast and a sign of our determination to keep our promises, Mr Skelton said. Jason and I will work together to make sure that local issues are addressed throughout the next four years. Jason 4 Caloundra Labor for Nicklin

22.01.2022 As the success of the Federal Government’s HomeBuilder scheme continues to drive rapid growth on the Sunshine Coast, we are going to need new leisure and entert...ainment facilities appropriate to one of Australia’s fastest growing regions. That means an upgrade to Sunshine Coast Stadium. This year, with Elton John’s concerts and the Melbourne Storm playing here we have all seen how much our community gets behind big events at the Stadium. I believe the time has come for us to make Sunshine Coast Stadium ready to host the biggest games and the biggest acts and I have been fighting for Federal Government funding to help make that a reality over the past year. I have already had several meetings with Federal Ministers about the project and I will continue to advocate for funding for the Sunshine Coast Stadium in the run up to the 2021 Federal Budget in May. 21.01.2022 Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP has announced the further easing of restrictions throughout Queensland. From 4pm today, Friday October 16: ... Outings from Aged Care facilities can resume Gatherings of 40 people will be allowed in homes and public places Up to 40 people will be allowed to dance at weddings with a COVID-safe plan and Dancing will be allowed at Year 12 school formals The Premier said Queensland’s strong health response had made a strong economic response possible and Queenslanders had earned the further easing of restrictions. At every step of our fight against the spread of COVID we have gone forwards, not backwards, the Premier said. Together we have successfully suppressed our most recent outbreak with barely a handful of COVID cases across the state. People have turned out in their thousands to be tested. People deserve to have restrictions lifted as soon as it’s safe to do so. Deputy Premier Steven Miles said the year had been especially tough on Year 12s. So many have missed out on their school formals, the Deputy Premier said. I wish this decision could have been made sooner but we had that outbreak surrounding the youth detention centre and it simply wasn’t safe. Now that the spread is sufficiently contained, the Chief Health Officer has given the all-clear and we are acting straight away.

20.01.2022 RSL Queensland is enabling Queenslanders to pay their respects on Anzac Day RSL Queensland is working with its vast network of 230 Sub Branches to enable all Queenslanders to pay their respects to the State’s veterans this coming ANZAC Day. RSL Queensland State President Tony Ferris said that, as the State’s largest ex services organisation, RSL Queensland understands how critically important it is for veterans to be recognised and honoured for their service and sacrifice, an...d for Queenslanders to have the opportunity to pay their respects on ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day is Australia’s most iconic commemoration, he said. We are determined that just as we did last year - COVID-19 will not stand between veterans and the grateful community they served. While every organisation is required to observe Queensland Health guidelines on social distancing and contact tracing, we are planning two complementary commemorative approaches which will be COVID-safe. Firstly, we are working with our network of 230 RSL Sub Branch to establish local community commemorations, where these can be safely conducted. Second, by popular community demand, we will once again enable Queenslanders to show their support through the continuation of the ‘Light Up the Dawn’ personal driveway commemorations at 6am on ANZAC Day. This will involve providing the public with a commemorative service they can download or stream from our website on the day, commemorative items they can use on their homes to display their support, and an extensive communication campaign to help them show that the ANZAC Spirit continues to be alive and well in these difficult times, Ferris continued. Mr Ferris said he and all veterans - appreciated the public’s determination to preserve ANZAC Day traditions, including the community’s concern for the health and well-being of the State’s veterans, many of whom are elderly and therefore at higher risk from the virus. We are taking the necessary time and care with our Sub Branches to carefully plan local commemorative activities which preserve the health of both veterans and the public, he said. In coming weeks, we will publish a map of services and commemorative activities across the State on our RSL Queensland website when they are confirmed.

17.01.2022 Injured paraglider airlifted after 10 metre fall The Sunshine Coast RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital, after he was injured in a paragliding incident, this morning. The rescue chopper was called to a coastal area, in the Gympie region, just after 11:30am.... It's believed the patient, aged in his 40s, had been paragliding over a cliff and as he turned back towards land, the wind changed. The paragliding canopy reportedly folded, causing the man to plummet 10 metres, onto soft sand below. Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) personnel initially assisted the patient at the scene. He was then transferred to a local sports oval, to meet the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper and aeromedical team. The man was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, suffering suspected spinal injuries, in a stable condition. Photos courtesy RACQ LifeFlight Rescue
17.01.2022 Queensland Police Service is appealing for witnesses to rock throwing at Maroochydore. Two jet ski riders have narrowly escaped serious injury after rocks were thrown at their vessel from a bridge at Maroochydore yesterday. Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at approximately 3.15pm on November 13 where two 17-year-old boys were travelling on a jet ski eastbound along Cornmeal Creek when a group of people threw large rocks at them from the Duporth Avenue Bridge.... The boys were forced to take evasive action and swerve, resulting in them colliding with one of the bridge pylons. The pair were both thrown from the jet ski into the creek. The driver was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with a wrist injury. The vessel suffered irreparable damage estimated to be worth around $8000. Preliminary information suggests the group involved may have been five or six teenagers, mostly boys and one girl. Three people in the group had bicycles and were last seen fleeing towards Ocean Street. One of the boys was wearing a black shirt with red shorts and carrying a black backpack. Senior Constable Murray Lyons from Sunshine Coast Water Police said the matter could have resulted in serious injury or even death. We would appeal for anyone who may have been in the vicinity around Cotton Tree or Ocean Street at the time of the incident and may have seen the group involved to come forward, Senior Constable Lyons said. Police take matters such as this extremely seriously. 15.01.2022 COVID-19 has been detected in the water entering Maroochydore sewerage treatment plant. This testing does not tell us whether the people who shed the virus were... sick or infectious at the time. This kind of result could also occur if someone who was a case from another region passed through the Sunshine Coast. There are no known cases of COVID-19 in the Sunshine Coast region at the moment, but this finding shows we must all take the risk of COVID-19 seriously. We’re asking residents to get tested, even if it’s just for mild symptoms. That’s the only way we can be sure that the virus is not spreading locally. Testing people for COVID-19 protects our communities from a potential outbreak and keeps the Sunshine Coast open for business. Testing is free for everyone including foreign nationals. People should stay home till they are well and their test is clear, with results usually available the next day. Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health service COVID-19 testing clinics are located below. Residents must pre-register by phoning 1300 163 044 (a GP referral is not required). 15.01.2022 Inspiring staff member now back on her feet Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service Administration Officer Shona Muckert, who is a double amputee after a horrible car crash, has defied the odds and endured years of surgery to be able to walk again. Shona was 25 years old when the 4WD she was driving got caught on loose gravel and spun out of control, rolling four times before landing on the drivers’ side.... Shona’s legs were flung out of the window at an awkward angle and she was pinned down under the car, trapped for an agonising 12 hours until help arrived. I don’t remember the helicopter ride to hospital, my next memory was waking up in intensive care holding my dad’s hand, Shona said. Shona was determined to live a full life and has gone on to become a mother to nine-year old Quinn. She also joined a basketball team, and Shona is now a world champion outrigging paddler.

13.01.2022 Tourism Recovery Fund builds new Sunshine Coast attractions Three Sunshine Coast tourism businesses are investing in fresh attractions with the assistance of the Palaszczuk Government’s $25 million Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund. Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe MP said Aussie World, Bellingham Maze and Tree Top Adventure Park would share in $1.84 million.... We know tourism is critical to the Sunshine Coast’s economic recovery plan, Mr Hinchliffe said. That’s why the Palaszczuk Government is working closely with tourism businesses to help the industry come back from COVID-19 stronger than ever. The three fresh attractions for the Sunshine Coast are worth a combined $4.5 million and are expected to deliver almost 50 jobs during construction and operation. Aussie World will harness the thrill of speed with a new rollercoaster ride to complement the recently installed Swing Ride. Bellingham Maze is combining its a’maze’ing outdoor maze with an immersive, virtual reality maze experience. And, work is underway on a Junior adventure challenge for 3 to 9-year-olds at the Tree Top Adventure Park. Member for Nicklin Rob Skelton said the Junior Tree Top Adventure would be the biggest of its kind in Australia. As the Big Pineapple has demonstrated over the years, the Sunshine Coast isn’t half hearted when it comes to the scale of its tourist attractions, Mr Skelton said. These projects - funded in partnership with the Palaszczuk Government’s Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund - continue the Coast’s tradition of creating destination tourism infrastructure. Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt MP said the fresh attractions would bring more visitors to the Sunshine Coast. Once built, almost 70,000 extra visitors every year are predicted to make their way to the Sunshine Coast for a unique tourism experience, Mr Hunt said. Additional visitors to these new attractions alone are estimated to boost the Sunshine Coast’s economy by nearly $4 million every year. The Palaszczuk Government’s Growing Infrastructure Fund is helping the Sunshine Coast to grow from COVID as one of Australia’s favourite holiday playgrounds.

12.01.2022 Greens plan for free hospital parking on the Coast Greens candidates, Sue Etheridge (Nicklin) and Anna Sri (Kawana) have welcomed their party’s plan for free hospital parking across Queensland, including Nambour Hospital and Sunshine Coast University Hospital, as bringing much-needed relief for the community. The Greens will buy back every privately-owned carpark at a public hospital and establish a $500 million fund to upgrade and expand public hospital parking in areas of ...need. Patients will be able to allocate their free parking to a friend or family member, with parking tickets validated by hospital reception. This would include anyone seeking treatment at a public hospital, including outpatients. The total cost of introducing free hospital parking for patients and staff in all public hospitals will be $323 million over four years, including $268 million to buy back the seven privatised carparks and $54 million covering lost revenue from hospital car parking fees and rent. The plan will be funded by the Greens’ plan to raise royalties on mining corporations, which will raise $55 billion over four years. Small business owner Sue Etheridge says the plan will go a long way to easing cost of living pressures for everyday people. Whenever you need to go to hospital because you’re sick or visiting a family member or friend, the last thing you need to worry about is how big your parking bill is going to be, Ms Etheridge said. Hospital parking fees place a massive burden on patients and their families and friends, with some people being forced to sleep in their cars rather than fork out money for parking. We’ll reverse Labor and the LNP’s privatisation of our public hospital assets, put money back into the pockets of hardworking healthcare workers and ensure sick people aren’t taxed just for having to go to hospital. Veterinarian and health advocate Anna Sri said the plan was one of several Greens’ policies designed to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for ordinary people. Our plan will create up to 200 more jobs for doctors and nurses, and build 16 community health clinics to take pressure off our hospital system, Ms Sri said. We will invest in our under-funded health system and ensure that healthcare is a universal right. We will pay for our plans by making big mining corporations, banks and developers pay their fair share in taxes.
12.01.2022 While a pledge of $20 million was confirmed in late 2020 by the Queensland State Government, together with pledges of $11 million from local community philanthropists, the Federal Government has failed to commit funding for the Sunshine Coast Stadium expansion project (Stage 1) in the May Budget. Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson in a statement released today expressed disappointment in the decision.... His statement reads: "Obviously, we are incredibly disappointed at the decision by the Federal Government not to provide $20 million in its forthcoming Budget in May to contribute to the $68 million stage 1 expansion of the Sunshine Coast Stadium. As a stimulus project, the Sunshine Coast Stadium expansion ticks all the boxes. More than 300 jobs would have been created during construction and over $25 million in ongoing annual economic benefits for the region. The Stage 1 expansion of the Stadium had all of the other pieces of the puzzle in place with the remaining $48 million committed by two local philanthropists ($11 million), Sunshine Coast Council ($17 million) and the Queensland Government ($20 million, subject to the Commonwealth contributing $20 million). There would have to be no other project in the nation in this position, with such a strong commitment from local and state governments and significant funds from private contributors. So needless to say, it is perplexing why the Federal Government can’t see its way clear to contribute the remaining $20 million through its next budget particularly when the Commonwealth has seen its way clear to contribute $15 million to the redevelopment of Ballymore in Brisbane and $23 million towards a stadium at Victoria Park in Rockhampton. This is also on the back of the $100 million the Federal Government contributed in recent years to the Stadium in Townsville. What this means is that work on the Sunshine Coast Stadium expansion will not commence later this year, as originally planned, and the project will be pushed back until such time as the $20 million funding gap is filled. Clearly, that will add to the cost of the project the longer it is deferred and may potentially place at risk the contributions from the two philanthropists and the State government if they do not agree to maintain their funding commitments on a deferred basis. Council will continue to work with the Federal Government and the Andrew Wallace - LNP Federal Member for Fisher to convince them of the need for this project, the strong local support it enjoys and to secure the required $20 million. Council is not in a position to be contributing the $20 million itself to cover the funding gap left by the Federal Government’s decision not to fund the project in this year’s Budget. Council has already outlaid on behalf of ratepayers, up to $50 million towards the development and maintenance of the Sunshine Coast Stadium complex to create the venue that it is today.
11.01.2022 850 jobs to flow from accelerated Bells Creek Arterial Road construction ** Skip to 8 minutes 30 for the start of the Premier's comments. Just three weeks after a deal to accelerate road construction and jobs on the Sunshine Coast, shovels have hit the ground on a new southern Bruce Highway connection to support growing communities at Caloundra South.... Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk MP said Labor’s $35 million commitment to accelerate the Bells Creek Arterial Road would cut travel times on the Bruce Highway and Caloundra Road and create hundreds of new jobs. Labor’s investment has brought forward this project by many years, the Premier said. We’ve backed the Bells Creek Arterial to bring forward jobs now to support our economic recovery. Getting this work started now will unlock $300 million of investment in the Caloundra South development, supporting more than 850 direct and indirect jobs. Labor candidate for Caloundra Jason Hunt (Jason 4 Caloundra) said the partnership with Stockland will provide a critical new southern connection into Caloundra from the Bruce Highway at Roys Road and reduce traffic on the Bruce Highway near Caloundra Road. Working with Stockland to complete this new link is expected to reduce travel time for 50,000 motorists who use Caloundra Road every day and cut the trip between Kawana and Beerburrum by around 13 minutes, Mr Hunt said. Mr Hunt said the Bells Creek Arterial connection wasn’t the only congestion-busting project being championed by Labor in Caloundra. We’ve locked in $7 million to build the Third Avenue to Nicklin Way link at Caloundra to take traffic away from the Caloundra Road roundabout and secured $4.2 million in funding from the Sunshine Coast Council, he said. Labor has also backed the $3.75 million upgrade at the Ridgewood Road and Caloundra Road intersection with works underway. Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey MP - Labor for Miller said Labor had a plan for economic recovery to create jobs across Queensland. There’s $2.8 billion locked in across four Bruce Highway upgrades between Brisbane and Gympie - more than what has been locked in to upgrade the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Mr Bailey said. Major work also starts next year on the $550 million Sunshine Coast Rail Duplication too. These projects will support 3000 Sunshine Coast jobs at a time when they’re needed most. The LNP has over $25 billion in unfunded election promises and has committed to delivering a surplus without borrowing any more money. The only way they can do that is by cutting, sacking and selling. When @Deb Frecklington MP was Campbell Newman’s Assistant Minister, she cut $1.6 billion in road and transport projects, including more than $122 million ripped out of Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay roads.

09.01.2022 $ A re-elected Palaszczuk Government will invest a further $74 million to help rebuild Queensland’s tourism industry in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Rebuilding Queensland Tourism investment would help position Queensland to fast-track tourism recovery and restore thousands of tourism jobs.... This $74 million tourism boost builds on our record investment in the industry to support jobs. Labor has a proven track record of working with the tourism industry including securing new flights to help drive visitation throughout the state. This plan capitalises on the fact that Queensland has a competitive advantage because of our strong health response, placing us in the box seat for tourism recovery. Contrast that with the LNP’s dangerous plan to rush back to a budget surplus amid a global revenue tightening, which can only mean cuts. Ms Palaszczuk said the package included a new $20 million Queensland Tourism Activation Fund to generate tourism opportunities throughout Queensland. We are also committing new funding for events, Queensland tourism initiatives and regional tourism bodies. The special one-off funding injection of $15 million to regional tourism organisations will enable them to better market their destinations and drive more tourism around the state. Ms Palaszczuk said a re-elected Labor Government would help restore tourism jobs for Queenslanders. Before the COVID-19 crisis, tourism was worth $28 billion and supported 234,000 Queensland jobs. I am determined to back this industry to see all these jobs restored. Our $74 million commitment will ensure Tourism and Events Queensland and the tourism industry have the resources they need to rebuild Queensland tourism. Queenslanders know that Labor will always back tourism jobs. Tourism Minister Kate Jones said Labor’s Rebuilding Queensland Tourism plan would help get more tourists back to Queensland. This plan is all about bolstering visitor numbers from every major city of Australia back to Queensland, Ms Jones said. Policy Snapshot $20 million Queensland Tourism Activation Fund $20 million events boost to attract more events for Queensland. This investment will include $14 million for major events and $1.5 million a year for business events $15 million to Tourism and Events Queensland for a marketing blitz to encourage travellers to experience Queensland $15 million regional tourism organisation fund to provide a special one-off funding injection to regional tourism organisations $4 million to deliver business capability training and future proofing the industry.

09.01.2022 Nambour General Hospital hosted a ‘thank you’ event, to celebrate the hard work of the local Hospital Auxiliary, who ceased operations this year after more than... three decades of service. The Nambour General Hospital Auxiliary, who is made up of mostly volunteers, began in the mid 80's, operating the hospital kiosk and gift shop. The Auxiliary is a non-profit organisation, with all proceeds being donated back to the hospital to purchase vital equipment and improve patient care. Since opening in March 1986, the auxiliary has proudly donated over $4 million in equipment to various hospital departments, made possible by the dedication of volunteers. Auxiliary president Jean Whitney says it’s been a rewarding experience volunteering and helping others for a greater cause. The funds we have generated in the kiosk through volunteering has helped provide equipment for the hospital. This in turn allows the community to access to better facilities and care, Ms Whitney said. Many of the volunteers have been patients at the hospital at one time or another, so it’s nice to be able to give back to the healthcare workers who look after us. Nambour General Hospital Director of Nursing and Facility Manager Graham Wilkinson said the hard working and friendly faces of Auxiliary staff and volunteers will be greatly missed. The work of the Auxiliary over many years, and the impact they have had on purchasing necessary equipment for the hospital, as well as the special connection they built with staff and patients has made a real difference to the hospital. We are greatly appreciative to Jean and her team, Mr Wilkinson said. Thank you to all the staff who attended today telling their stories of how staff have helped their patients, including Dr Jo Deverill, Cathy Schapter, Ruth Morgan, and Mark Adock, and to Chief Executive Adj Prof Naomi Dwyer for unvielling the plaque with Jean and Graham. #nambourgeneralhospital #volunteers #nambour

06.01.2022 The Australian Government has unlocked $12 million in funding to duplicate an existing 350 metre two-lane section of Brisbane Road. The section from Mayes Canal Bridge to the intersection of Foote Street and Tarcoola Avenue will be upgraded and will include a new bridge over Mayes Canal to accommodate four lanes. Andrew Wallace - LNP Federal Member for Fisher said this project will significantly reduce congestion for the commuters who use Brisbane Road. ... This project will make a real difference to people’s lives, Mr Wallace said. Not only will it save travel time, these upgrades will improve the safety of the road, ensuring Queenslanders get home sooner and safer. The new bridge will also bring a range of other benefits including improved flood immunity for the community. At a time when it's never been more important to support economic growth across the country, releasing federal funding for this project is a significant and welcome milestone for the community. Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said the Council welcomed the release of the funding for this project, which was committed in the May 2019 Federal Budget. We know how important these upgrades are for the community, which is why Council has committed $13.3 million to the project, Mayor Jamieson said. Improving accessibility to Mooloolaba, which is one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular locations for local residents and tourists alike, is a key objective of this project and Council’s broader road network planning for the area. The project is expected to support 45 jobs during construction which is vital for keeping our economy rolling as the region continue to progress through economic recovery. Construction is expected to start in early 2021 and be completed in early 2022, weather permitting. The $25.3 million Mooloolaba Access Upgrade is jointly funded, with the Australian Government committing $12 million and the Sunshine Coast Council $13.3 million.

02.01.2022 " " ? Every year hundreds of animals are reported as being abandoned during school holidays. While some of them actually had been abandoned others actually had someone assigned to care for them. The problem is that the animals’ owners often neglect to notify neighbours and these neighbours report the matter to us, said RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty. I would urge anyone who leaves their pets in the care of family or friends to re...gister with our Home Alone service. The Home Alone service was set up to alleviate the burden on already overworked Inspectors who were continually being called to investigate possible cases of neglect and cruelty during holiday periods. Many people leave pets at home and rely on the goodwill of neighbours and friends to keep them fed, watered and exercised, said Mr Beatty. The problem is that often these friends forget or the animal escapes and we have no one to contact in case of emergencies. With Home Alone people can register their pet on our website and leave the name and contact details of the people taking care of the animal. That way we know whom to contact in case of emergencies. RSPCA QLD investigates over 19,000 complaints of animal cruelty and neglect annually and reports of abandoned animals make up a large number of these complaints. During holiday seasons these types of calls escalate with families leaving pets behind in the care of friends and neighbours. The good intentions of neighbours looking out for the welfare of your pet can often lead to unneeded investigation, continued Mr Beatty. Simply by completing your details on Home Alone when your family is going on holidays you can be reassured that RSPCA Inspectors will contact you or your animals’ nominated caregiver if a complaint is lodged or the animal ends up at an RSPCA shelter. However the sad fact remains that some animals have been abandoned. Your pet is your responsibility. A pet is for life, not just your convenience. Animal abandonment is an offence. You can register your details by either calling the call centre on 3426 9999 or following the link http://www.rspcaqld.org.au//care-for-an/home-alone-service
