11.01.2022 So we took Barbie, Lando and Candy for Gallop training today! Gallops and hills helps make the horse fit and increases their endurance performance. The idea i...s to work them in short intervals, putting stress on their heart & lungs...let him recover a bit, then work him again. The number of intervals will depend on the level your horse is at. During gallops its important to monitor the horse’s respiration/breathing and heart rate. I always take note of their respiration rate, and notice how quickly the horse recovers after the gallops. Most horses, especially if they finish going uphill, will pull up blowing (see video). If their breathing comes back to normal fairly quickly, then the horse is starting to get fit!! It’s the same with heart rate - the faster the horses heart rate comes down, the fitter they are. If they are still huffing and puffing ten minutes later...you’ve got some serious fitness work to do! It’s safe to say, our 3 are ready to smash the next event Some people don’t have access to big hills or long stretches of paddock to do interval training on. In 2021 you’ll be able to send your horses to @equineadvancement to use our water and dry treadmills to improve fitness & strength in your horse. I’ll be overseeing all of the programs and can tailor make a training schedule to suit your goals. Go follow www.facebook.com/equineadvancement We open January 2021
