24.01.2022 Have you ever heard the saying "movement is the medicine" It's true, but there is a catch! If basic movements are repeatedly performed incorrectly due to an underlying issue caused by injury or environment. Dysfunction will soon become apparent. Just ask big booty Baz..... Barry has got a fresh gym membership with plans to squat like a boss to become the next insta star with a booty. He skips body weight squats and get straight under the bar. Barry is pumping out a high volume of reps but he has a problem with the movement of his squat. Unaware of the problem he adds more weight to the bar and increases his volume. His dysfunctional movement pattern when performed with increasing frequency and load only compounds his movement problem. The path to instagram stardom just got a little longer for Barry as he has to visit the physio before he has got any followers. This is a classic example of moving often before moving well. If you are about to take up a new sport or workout routine and dont want to end up like poor Baz, make sure the fundamentals of your movements are on point, then move often, feel great and enjoy the medicine

06.01.2022 Tight/Sore Upper Back & Neck Pain Do you spend a lot of time behind a desk or driving a vehicle? If your upper back and neck ache the reason could be the result of two large muscles called the trapezius muscles becoming very tight. This tightness comes from being under constant tension often caused by poor posture. This results in the stiffness you feel in your neck after a day's work or a long drive. There are other factors which can cause this pain, such as sleeping in an a...wkward position or from lack of exercise/movement. The good news is this pain can be alleviated and dramatically reduced from recurring in the future. Step one - Get a massage! Release all the tension in your neck and enjoy having the feeling of increased range of motion. Step two - Be aware of your posture. If you catch yourself starting to slip into a forward head posture Do the following steps. 1. Lower your shoulders 2. Bring your head back 3. Contract your abdominal muscles and lift your rib cage slightly. Step three - Take short breaks to stretch and move around. Step four - Strengthen your traps. To achieve great posture spend time developing all three sections of your traps (upper, middle, lower traps). The upper traps elevate your shoulders and move your head side to side, the middle traps pull your shoulder blades back together and the lower traps pull the shoulder blades downwards.
