19.01.2022 Fancy creating Christmas culinary delights of Christmas past? If you are a National Trust Member all three events are free as a gift from the Trust to thank you for your support ! The National Trust are hosting some fun heritage digital events via Zoom over the next three weekends. They look exciting! The first one up is "Christmas Cook-along 1860s Online Class - Como's Plum Pudding" Enjoy working alongside ‘Cook’ and create Christmas cheer of yesteryear. Hear fascinating ...tales of Victorian traditions and kitchen lore as you are guided through the baking process, from measuring ingredients to presentation. The recipe comes from a never before published Victorian manuscript a treasure in the National Trust’s collection. A handwritten cookbook of recipes passed down from generation to generation. Mrs Lenoard shared her Plum Pudding recipe with the Tuckwell girls before they emigrated to Australia in the 1850s. You can now sample an authentic tried and tested recipe that is over 170 years old. #NTAVchristmascookalong National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Look here for more information https://www.nationaltrust.org.au/event/christmas-cookalong/

16.01.2022 On beautiful Spring days like today we reflect on the garden at Villa Alba bursting into bloom! We look forward to walking under the wisteria again sometime soon. Here’s a shot of the vine starting to emerge in Spring, and a flower arrangement on the Drawing Room mantlepiece at a 2019 Open Day, featuring flowers foraged from the Villa Alba garden. #villa_alba_museum #spring #fridaymood #gardens #wisteria #vines #flowers #kew #heritage #visitmelbourne

12.01.2022 With COVID-19 overturning all our expectations of 2020, there has never been a more significant time to celebrate the importance of nurses and midwives globally. This year marks the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale and has been named ‘International Year of the Nurse and Midwife’ Here at Villa Alba we want to celebrate this year of the Nurse and Midwife by looking to our own history as an annex of the Royal Women’s Hospital from 1950-1973. Did you or any of your family work or live at Villa Alba during this time? If so please get in touch via messenger or email [email protected] as we will be sharing moments of our past and would love to include your story too

06.01.2022 Urgent work has started on much needed repairs to the roof at Villa Alba. With the assistance of a conservation grant from The Copland Foundation we are making the roof watertight and ensuring all of the gutters are in good shape to keep it that way! Our slating experts, who specialise in heritage roof repairs, are reinstating slipped slates and replacing damaged ones with old slate. There is so much more still to do at Villa Alba to conserve the building and keep it open to the public. If you’d like to help, why not join us as a member, volunteer or make a donation? See our website for details www.villaalbamuseum.org

03.01.2022 It’s Throwback Thursday and we’re continuing our celebration of nurses and midwives past and present with a look back at Villa Alba’s time as part of the Royal Women’s Hospital. These postcards give us an insight into life on the ward for newborns and their mothers from 1950-1973.
