25.01.2022 @newleaf_naturopathy love their beans as much as we do! And there’s so much to love!! #Repost @newleaf_naturopathy with @get_repost FIBRE... let’s talk about it!... Are you getting enough and do you know what it’s all about?? Insoluble. Soluble. It has so many functions in your body. Some of my favourites (the ones I’m always telling my clients about) are: feeding your gut’s microbiome - the good bacteria. You need fibre to make that bacteria grow ANS recolonise. If you’re taking a probiotic or eating fermented foods you need the fibre to fuel your gut. Balance your blood sugar. Adding fibre to your meals will mean you stay fuller for longer, you’ll get the most sustained energy out of your food. So many studies show it reduces your risk of not only bowel cancer, but loads of other cancers. It’s also a power food in combating heart disease and diabetes. It helps you poop . If you suffer from either constipation or loose stools adding fibre will make your toilet time better in every way. So where is all this fibre?? Well, it’s easy to find - it’s in pretty much any plant based food. Fruit. Vege. Nuts. Seeds. Legumes. Beans. Whole grains. How much do you need? I’d say at least 30g a day. This looks like 5 cups of veg (but you can’t eat enough veg!!) 1 cup of lentils or beans a few serves of whole grains (pasta, rice, quinoa - whatever your choice is) a handful of nuts an apple and a banana. This should get you there! These are some delicious pinto beans (from @villagewholefoods) which I made into @heidijswanson’s Fiasco Beans - a Sunday simple staple in our house. Now go get your fibre in. Your body will thank you!!

23.01.2022 Its soap week this week at Village Wholefoods and we are going to spotlight our range of amazing soap bars. Last but not least is our Rosehip hand and body soap. 21.01.2022 Having less plastic in your life doesnt need to be complicated. Wire pegs are a fantastic alternative to plastic pegs as they almost last forever. Made from one single piece of wire so they wont break. No fragile plastic that will only break down into smaller pieces. We have 2 types: Grade 304 - slightly bigger and great for windy weather. They can be left outdoors but will last longer if taken inside when not in use. Grade 316 - Marine grade so these will never rust and can be left outside in all weather. We have been using them in our house for the past 3 years and they are still as shiny as the day we got them!

19.01.2022 New to the store is this fantastic Rare Gin Salt from Olsens and Four Pillars Gin. Dried and crushed Dry Gin botanicals combined with Australian grey salt make the perfect rub or seasoning. Weve tried it with Roast Chicken and roast potatoes and It was fantastic. Also making a triumphant return is the Olsens Truffle salt. A favourite last year, this rocks when teamed with mushroom and pasta!

The Cooks River Valley Association is made up of caring local residents who are committed to rehabilitating the Cooks River and fostering community spirit within the Cooks River Valley. A precious resource right on our doorstep, the River has been embraced this year by an increasing amount of families riding and walking along many of the great cycle paths and pedestrian walkways. Just back in stock is some amazing truffle salt thats perfect over scrambled eggs (breakfast in bed anyone?) 11.01.2022 Nestled just outside of Bega is Tom & Joscelin McMillans farm that supply us with yummy Bega Valley pastured eggs. Fresh every Friday, the hens are free to roam, scratch and dust bathe, just as chickens should. They also come direct from the farm, so you know they are as fresh as can be!

10.01.2022 Its the last day of July and we thought we would finish off Plastic Free July by letting you know what we do at the store to reduce our plastic impact. From the very beginning we have strived to send as little as possible to landfill. We recycle our soft plastics with RedCycle and our hard plastics and cardboard go to a recycling facility. We have several suppliers that we return containers to be refilled so that nothing is wasted. We also have other bits and pieces that end up at Reverse Garbage to get reused. In total about 85% of our waste is diverted from landfill.

08.01.2022 We are thrilled that our Vanilla producers Bloomfield Vanilla were awarded a Gold Medal in the Delicious Harvey Norman 2020 Produce Awards. We already know their vanilla is spectacular and we wish them luck in the final trophy round announced in October.
