25.01.2022 We thought you were moving to Byron? We get asked this question a lot. Like everyone, we got a little ambushed by the pandemic and our plans to move east were rudely interrupted by COVID 19. ... When this craziness began we had sold our house (and our beach house) and were mid-way through selling off all our luxury event furniture to make a swift break for the east coast in our soon to be purchased caravan. Woo hoot. Things were progressing perfectly to plan. Our sea change was on track. Moments away from signing a contract to lease out our huge white warehouse in Henderson the inexplicable happened. The world stopped. The lease arrangement for our warehouse fell through, our sale stopped and we spent lock down living in the confines of our Henderson gates. We didn’t mind it. Our Henderson warehouse is actually pretty stunning, it had been converted into a caretakers residence when we were flat out with events, it wasn’t a bad place to be over the winter. With the borders closed and the caravan & camping show canned, our plan to head east seemed entirely senseless (not to mention illegal) Like many, we were forced to make a new plan. Boots our old Cattle dog found all of this a bit much and she left our world after 14.5 magical years on this earth. Our lives were completely rocked. I left social media, I had nothing to say. After some time in a mysterious way, without trying to force life in the right direction, we just sat still and relaxed into the idea of staying here in Perth for a while. New opportunities started soaring towards us. We emerged out of the lockdown as a shiny new business offering interior design services for private and hospitality clients, and its taking off. We have just opened our gorgeous new concept store in Henderson which is a collection of indoor and outdoor furniture, beautiful custom rugs, dreamy reproduction plants and whimsical life size animal sculptures. So we are here for the now. We’re living this new altered course day by day like everyone else with the very special edition of Lois, our 7 month old baby blue heeler. 15.01.2022 Like many in small business we have been busy behind the scenes trying to figure out the right steps to take moving forward. With advice changing hourly (my husbands sister works for the World Health Organisation in Infectious Diseases so has a very honest view of the current situation) it seems the most sensible and responsible thing to do right now is for us to postpone our massive clearance sale and slow this thing down. The world is in an unimaginable place, we all still... reeling from the horrific bush fires over east and I believe personally we are all exhausted. At the brink. I know Im tired. I kind of think its the universe telling us all that Its time to slow down. Move more gently. Move with more compassion for the planet, the plants, animals and the people around us. Thats what I am choosing to take away from all this. We will be working from home more gently (the warehouse that is - we were mid way through our big sale, selling up everything and transitioning into a minimalist lifestyle in a caravan when all this went down!) So in light of our current situation, a warehouse still teeming with gorgeous furnishings, home decoration, lighting, rugs and Royal tents it seems we will just have to wait a little longer for the caravan road trip, slow the whole process down a bit, ride this crisis out with everyone else and relaunch our final clearance sale again when the world is ready to step back into our new real world with integrity and kindness. 11.01.2022 Weve been a little quiet on the social media front for the past week. With so much going on and life changing for us all seemingly by the minute its all been so hectic, unfamiliar and down right scary. On Monday at the very worst time possible we were looking into overseas flights for Karl to fly home to NZ on compassionate grounds due to a family illness. Ironically before all of this virus stuff occurred he was pencilled in to fly home last Tuesday to see his family wh...o we havent managed to catch up with now for over 3 years #toobusy #noworklifebalance Thankfully my NZ family are all OK and our trip to NZ postponed just a little longer until the sand settles. What I am learning from all of this is that 5 months ago when we committed to changing our lives, working less, needing less, giving back more to ourselves, to each other and the environment around us that we love - we were without question on the right path. Our caravan road trip and relocation over east is obviously on hold for now. We have not figured out our new game plan. We are on pause. We are however taking real time out to reconnect with ourselves - getting super fit is my main goal something I have benched for quite some time due to an exhaustive work load always taking precedence. I am looking forward to eating lean, feeling strong (mind, body and spirit) and being more present and connected with my family and community. We are grateful for the big wins (a healthy family, phew!) and the small ones, we began our new fitness routine today, Karl, Boots and I = commitment to us. We are checking in with family every day, morning and night and planning our first virtual scrabble game with our Kiwi clan next week. You were a dream kitchen assistant and a master of managing international backpackers. You were an outstanding chatterbox and somehow always right where you shouldnt have been as our on the floor manager. You were Boots to many but to us you were a bounty of special nicknames and eccentric characters. Bootilicious, Velvet Ears, The Beast, Possum Chops, Mrs Mouse, Batfink, Jaws, Fraggle Rock, Ears Down for Landing, Mogwalis and Sun Bear to name only a few. Together you, Karl and I were the perfect wee family. You completed us. You were our triangle. Thank you little Booties for blessing us with your precious life. 01.01.2022 Weve enjoyed taking some time out from life as we knew it for 14 years in event production & design. Last November when we made the decision to jump from the event world and leap wholly into residential & hospitality design we were fully committed to starting an exciting, new chapter of our lives. Like everyone this forced Covid-19 reset wasnt on our radar, but in many ways its been a bit of a blessing. We had hoped to be two thirds the way across Australia by now in our... retro caravan sharing the magic of discovering new places with our gorgeous wee Blue Heeler Booties, but the universe had other ideas. The last few weeks leading up to losing Boots were absolute, unbridled heaven on earth. I cant remember a time when our little family was so happy. Bike rides & early morning beach runs, epic sunset picnics from the back of the car with a glass of wine, a scrabble board and loads of warm blankets on hand. Priceless stuff. We didnt actually need to go anywhere but our own back yard to discover the magic. It was right here. All we had to do was slow down. Like everyone our plans have been hugely disrupted but were making the most of the situation. Were still in WA. We didnt get a special exemption gold pass to cross the country, but we will take our planned road trip when the time is right. So in light of everything that has happened, we have decided to launch the new look VK from here, our home for now. Were still fine tuning a few things, but were on track to go live this weekend.
