11.01.2022 Facebook friends, unless you live under a rock (or simply don’t frequent FB often!) you’ll have noticed my many posts on today’s pathetic outcome regarding the ...two drunken thugs who bashed up two of our paramedics and have now been allowed to go free of jail time despite mandatory sentencing laws.... These are the same laws that stipulate a 6 month minimum jail term which was, disappointingly, not upheld today. The male paramedic was a long standing and highly professional team member at the first team I was allocated to as a Team Manager at Ambulance Victoria. Paul served his community for 40 years but now suffers physical and psychological injuries that will be with him for a long time. These injuries have been severe enough that he hasn’t been able to return to work yet. I am beyond devastated that this crime has essentially gone unpunished. I worry for my team and my colleagues safety now even more than ever before. I also like to think I’ll be able to come home from work and see my sons smiling face every single time without being injured by violent thugs! But what message does this outcome deliver to the thugs in our community??? So I ask you all a favour. Please share the hell out of all my posts. Please help me and my colleagues send a message that Judge Cottrells decision today is completely wrong and that the community will not stand for it. If you are a savvy letter writer, write to your local member and let them know that violence against paramedics is not ok and will not be tolerated, no matter the excuse. This may well be the longest Facebook post I’ve ever written but it goes to show you how disappointing and concerning this situation is. We paramedics are all really feeling the injustice of this tonight. Please help us make a stand. Thank you
