This helps reduce landfill and support recycling in Exmouth. Save your aluminium cans (whole, not crushed and with no contamination) , glass bottles and plastic bottles for recycling!! Bring them down to the Masonic Hall on Saturday Mornings for a cash refund, or donate them to the Freemasons Community Fund. Given the influx of tourist and the need to have a boat ramp dedicated to commercial operators we need a long term fix.... 19.01.2022 Nanna’s Op Shop at Carnarvon PCYC Congratulations to the Jinda Jinda Grandmothers Aboriginal Corporation (JJGAC), a dedicated and proactive group who have set up this not for profit organisation designed to support Mums and Grannies in our community.... The Jinda Jinda Op Shop is one of their initiatives run by volunteers, not only providing a retail service for the community but doubling as an important training space for a group enrolled with the Central Regional Tafe at the Carnarvon Campus who are in the process of completing their Certificate 2 in Retail . 15.01.2022 Nationals announce $115m to support regional police Member for North West Central, Vince Catania says a new $115 million policy launched by The Nationals WA at the Western Australian Police Union conference this week will strengthen regional policing in the regions. The Nationals WA commitment will see sub-standard and non-compliant regional police stations upgraded and will ensure our regional marine environment has a strong WA Police presence.... Vince said community safety was a priority for residents and visitors, in the regions. Many stations across regional WA, including Onslow, Paraburdoo and Exmouth require refurbishment, redevelopment or replacement to be fit for purpose, he said. We intend to work with WA Police to identify the stations that have been abandoned by the McGowan Labor Government and are in urgent need of renewal and repair, he said. With 98 new officers expected to be deployed across regional WA next year, and with more to come, it is vital regional stations in the regions remain suitable and appropriate to accommodate these additional officers. Our pristine regions will also benefit from The Nationals WA commitment to protect our vast coastline with funding for a permanent WA Water Police presence in the North of the State. The Labor Government disbanded the only WA water police unit outside the Perth-Mandurah region, in Dampier. Vince said The Nationals WA commitment will ensure our coastal communities in the north are better protected and supported should critical marine incidents and threats emerge. The Nationals WA have a track record of supporting our regional WA Police while in Government, delivering funding to upgrade the police radio network, building new stations and modernising incentives to attract and retain officers across regional WA. 09.01.2022 Meekatharra Lloyd's Building Opens Once Again What a great weekend it has been in Meekatharra. With the Outback Festival kicking off on Saturday and with helicopter rides from our very own Justin Borg Coral Coast Helicopter Services.... But the main attraction was the official opening of the redevelopment of the old Lloyd's build into officers including a boardroom, Mall, Community Resource Centre, Art Gallery and the absolute favourite a Hairdressers salon. The $2.5m refurbishment happened with the foresight of the Shire of Meekatharra starting back in 2010 when the shire purchased the building. With financial support from the Federal Government building better regions find and lotteries west, it's truly a community assets. 03.01.2022 Road signage review welcome but reference group falls well short Member for North West Central, Vince Catania and many tireless supporters are celebrating a big win for regional WA, with a Reference Group to oversee a Regional Road Signage review announced by the Minister for Transport. Mr Catania said after seeking Government support for improved road signage for months, I’m pleased with the announcement but recognise that to ‘get this right’ we need to make sure the Ref...erence Group is holistic and the consultation and processes are robust to provide the best possible outcome. This is a positive step in the right direction but some important contributors to the success of the review such as the Livestock and Rural Transport Association of WA, Pastoral and Agricultural organisations and selected members of the Mining industry, seem not to have been included in the Reference Group. said Mr Catania. I call on the Minister after finally recognising a desperate call by many from the bush for help to reduce the potential for accidents and tragedies which have already taken too many lives and destroyed families and communities, to ensure the Reference Group is all encompassing. Now more than ever, with increasing volumes of traffic and many modes of transport sharing our remote roads including heavy haulage mining, livestock and freight trucks, along with caravans and leisure vehicles, the call for having robust safety signs in place warning drivers of the dangers of hazards up ahead is paramount. This Review marks just the start a journey to fulfil a collective goal of many impacted people in our regions to ensure the safety of our roads is improved and lives are saved. he said. I’m thankful the power and persistence of many people, including 5,000 who signed my Petition presented to Parliament, has been able to shine a light on this this important issue and resulted in the State Government agreeing to review and strengthen policies for road works signage. 02.01.2022 Carnarvon Follow the Dream 15th Anniversary & Awards Celebration A celebration at Gwoonwardu Mia Thursday night, marked the 15th Anniversary of the Carnarvon Follow the Dream Program and Annual Awards presentation, with over 100 people enjoying the presentations. The Follow the Dream program has taken advantage of our new state of art Carnarvon Community College from P-12 being on one site and started to transition students into the program at an earlier age than the trad...itional secondary school program (Year 7-12). Year six students were introduced to the program in Semester two last year helping students transition into secondary school, developing skills to prepare them for success and building positive relationships with their future teachers and their older peers in Follow The Dream. The introduction of Year Six students to the programme also saw the amalgamation of the Carnarvon Follow The Dream Year 6 Program and Clontarf Foundation’s Bright Sparks’ Homework Classes, which I understand is a first for the Follow the Dream program congratulations to the Carnarvon Community College Principle, Ryan Govan, the Carnarvon Follow the Dream Program Coordinator, Mimi Fong and the Clontarf Foundation for their initiative. Most importantly I was proud to be able to present the first Year 6 Carnarvon Follow the Dream Academic Dux award to Alyssa Latham, recognising her academic excellence throughout her final years of Primary Education and her commitment to participating in the Carnarvon Follow the Dream program.
