22.01.2022 On Saturday 4 July 2020, it was announced that nine sites across three public housing estates in North Melbourne and Flemington would be placed into ‘hard lockdown’ for a period of five days. The 3,000 residents of the buildings have been told they are not allowed to leave their homes for any reason. We acknowledge the challenging situation for our clients who reside in those nine sites. For those who drop-in to our Homelessness Resource Centre each day on Flemington Road to ...collect food parcels and material aid, we acknowledge the difficulty you will face in meeting your needs elsewhere. To all our service users affected by this situation, VincentCare is here to assist and stands ready to help. VincentCare is committed to the principles of social justice and aims to ensure that every individual is treated with dignity and respect regardless of their ability, cultural background, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation or religion. The Victorian Government is partnering with the Australian Red Cross to provide the residents of these nine tower blocks with a single point of contact to ask for whatever they need. If you are living in one of these nine sites, please call 1800 961 054 for information and assistance. https://www.vincentcare.org.au/news/covid-19-coronavirus/

22.01.2022 It's Trans Awareness Week. VincentCare would like to welcome all trans people who are or are at risk of experiencing homelessness, who are ageing and need support to remain in their own home, who are living with a disability, or who are experiencing family violence. We acknowledge your struggles and the harm that you have experienced and continue to experience in a world that is transphobic. "We recognise that providing a safe and welcoming service starts with celebrating the wonderful and unique contribution you make to our whole world. To our trans staff and volunteers, thank you you are such an important part of creating this safe and welcome space. And to the broader trans community it is a privilege to be your ally. Quinn Pawson, VincentCare CEO

22.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history that dates back thousands of generations. VincentCare is on a journey of reconciliation where we will continue to champion the voices and storytelling of Australia’s First Peoples with learnings that inspire, instil pride and lead to a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and cultures. Being part of cultural celebrations is one of our most significant commitments to that journey, as is engagement and two-way learning. #NAIDOC2020

19.01.2022 Today is Wear it Purple Day A day where we acknowledge and celebrate young LGBTIQ+ people. It’s an important day in the annual LGBTIQ+ calendar and one that we are proud to celebrate at VincentCare. We invited some young queer folk to share their thoughts about what Wear it Purple Day means to them, and suggest ways we, as individuals, might be able to support and celebrate them, not just today, but all year around. Each person shares a little of their own experience, a...nd talks about how the broader community can help bring about change. A big thanks to these fantastic young people and a couple of our very own VincentCare staff too for being part of this video.

18.01.2022 "I work with men 30% queer and or Indigenous who have been homeless and have drug and alcohol dependence issues. During COVID-19, I’ve been able to maintain an active, ‘hands on’ direct care practice via Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp. I’ve found seeing and speaking to my clients daily has compensated for the distance. I can see how they look, make sure they feel safe, help them navigate medical appointments, and manage their treatment plans. My clients get more of my help remo...tely, than they did when I was at work with all the other distractions." Joanna Macdougall, Reconstructing Life After Dependency (RLAD) Care and Recovery Coordinator At VincentCare we understand this pandemic may affect LGBTIQ+ people in a number of different ways. We are a Rainbow Tick accredited organisation and we are still providing a full range of services. Read more: https://vincentcare.org.au//covid-19-c/lgbtiq-information/

"Thank you VincentCare! Jade, past VincentCare client #TransAwarenessWeek

16.01.2022 "Welcome to Trans Awareness Week! At VincentCare we’re constantly trying to ensure our services are as safe and inclusive as possible for our trans clients. We understand that the homelessness sector can be a pretty unfriendly place if you’re trans and we’re really trying to change that." Jac Tomlins, VincentCare Gender & Sexuality Manager #transawarenessweek

07.01.2022 My team are still doing everything we were doing before lockdown, just doing it remotely. We’re assisting clients, advocating with creditors, setting up payment plans and really trying to help people get to a place of financial resilience. And we’re still a free, respectful and confidential service. 02.01.2022 "I work with our residents as part of the Engagement Team at Oz House. While we’re in lockdown, I’ve developed an art collective, Inner Voice, to support clients in creating acts of expression. It was born out of the LGBTIQ+ portfolio, but everyone can participate. It’s based on a shared sense of solidarity that comes from having endured struggle and injustice. Karen Parker, Engagement Worker At VincentCare we understand this pandemic may affect LGBTIQ+ people in a number of different ways. We are a Rainbow Tick accredited organisation and we are still providing a full range of services. Read more: https://www.vincentcare.org.au//covid-1/lgbtiq-information
