24.01.2022 ABW DAY 5 - Our students launched their trade displays! Such innovation, enterprise and collaboration - please enjoy this video tour! And that’s a wrap for ABW 2020 and what a day it was!!! Year 10 went above and beyond and all groups impressed the judges today. We had a ball and want to thank everyone involved with making ABW a huge success. A special mention to our committed community members who judged the cafes today - Mat Lock @TheBayGames, Able Walsh @OneAgencyrealestate and Mayor Amanda Findley. They took the time to chat to all of our Yr 10 groups and judged their cafe simulations. Our students appreciated their encouraging comments and expertise. The winning cafe will be announced very soon.

22.01.2022 Today we celebrated NAIDOC 2020 with a visit from Djiriba Waagura Pty Ltd. Djiriba Waagura - meaning "Two Crows" in Dhurga Language of the Yuin Nation. They delivered an informative and moving story through dance, sharing stories and knowledge passed down from their ancestors to educate and empower our school community. The crow is a very important bird as it represents our clever old people. From their stories and dance we learned that: Mother Earth gives us everything... we need to live, learning the purpose of life and the land is important as we have no life without the land. The land is number 1. Yidaki is the traditional name for the didgeridoo of the Yolngu people. Raymond Timbery explained that the Yidaki is for men but the sound is a gift to all. Kinship is important and the goanna, emu, kangaroo and echidna are significant animals. Aboriginal Australians are the world’s oldest civilization. The Brewarrina fish traps are estimated to be over 40,000 years old and one of the oldest man-made structures on earth. The Ngemba people of Brewarrina used their advanced knowledge of river hydrology and fish ecology to trap and catch large numbers of fresh water fish. (The unusual and innovative fish traps, known as Ngunnhu, are still visible in the Darling River, and have strong social, cultural and spiritual association for Aboriginal people with connections to the area.) If we ‘LOOK’ and ‘LISTEN’ we will learn and understand. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be.
21.01.2022 Worried about your young person? Every person experiences trauma differently and children and young people may perceive stressful events in very different ways to adults. It is normal for people affected by bushfires to experience a range of emotions. These can include sadness, fear, anxiety and worry. These feelings can come at unexpected times or follow situations that remind people of the bushfires. This is a normal part of recovery. We can support our children and young ...people to learn how to identify, understand, anticipate and manage these feelings and reactions. There are support services available to you over the holiday period. Visit the Department of Education webpages for students, staff and families that provide information if you’re having a tough time and need support right now. https://www.education.nsw.gov.au//counselling-and-psycholo

08.01.2022 Our students had the opportunity to compete in the Sikorsky Australia Plane Simple Competition this morning, competing against other schools across the Shoalhaven. Students were tutored by local aerospace industry professionals on how to fold paper planes to get them flying. The Nowra Show Society is about agriculture AND industry and they wanted to somehow, include industry, to show people what the Shoalhaven has to offer, and to engage school students to attend the Nowra Sh...ow and see what opportunities are available to them in the Shoalhaven. They worked with Global Defence Solutions (GDS) and came up with the idea of a paper plane competition. GDS and the Shoalhaven Defence Industry group organise this event each year and collaborate with local defence companies to sponsor and support the competition. Planes were judged on longest time in the air and the longest flight in length. Winners will be announced at the Nowra Show on Friday 5th & Saturday 6th of February. We would like to thank; Sikorsky Australia, Global Defence Solutions, Mellori, Regional Development Australia, Air Affairs Australia, StormTech, UOW and the Nowra Show Society for their work in bringing this competition to our school giving students the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and open up potential for work experience and future employment here in the Shoalhaven.
07.01.2022 Year 10 Survivor Walk Day 1 - A warm and sunny start saw the Survivor Crew take a traditional snapshot at Point Perpendicular. Lunching at the spectacular Honeymoon Bay before heading along the rocky coastline through to Long Beach. The Survivor Crew embraced the mangroves before crossing via kayaks to Hare Point. Tonight’s campsite is Red Point. Tonight we will be drying our wet shoes and socks, nursing the blisters and sore muscles, indulging in freeze dry foods and bonding as survivors! We even survived the storm that hit not long ago! Thank you to Holly Macken and Brent Warner for helping our Survivors along the way, your effort was very much appreciated.
