22.01.2022 As humans it is natural to be seduced by the adrenaline and endorphins our bodies release. These are released when we exercise, eat, laugh, have sex, hug....and they are also released when we are in danger, or are stressed. I guess to some extent we all have the tendency to be adrenalin or endorphin junkies. Watching my kids yesterday spin themselves into a state of euphoria on the play equipment was simply beautiful and m...agical. However it is not a state that is realistically maintainable. After you spin yourself round and round you feel great....at first. If you keep doing it over and over without a break you will feel sick or maybe even come flying off your seat into a heap. Use this analogy over the Christmas break. If you find yourself pushing, if you can’t slow down, if you are seduced by the busyness of the world, and feel the need to fill every single moment with something entertaining.... remember that slowing down is just as important. Let yourself be bored, let the kids be bored. Don’t continue to overstimulate yourselves with endless screen time. Don’t rush around to get everything done, and not leave anytime to actually enjoy the moment. Read a book, play a board game, look at the stars, sing Christmas songs and dance with your kids. Enjoy this moment.....because that’s all we have promised. Enjoy Christmas everyone #slowdown #christmasismagical #yogateacher #kidsyoga #getfitwithchristyyoga #vindayogaoakey #lovethesetwo See more

19.01.2022 FIGHT OR FLIGHT! YOU CANT RUN FOREVER! I have never been shy about my past. I have a background of addiction, depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Yoga has been about finding myself. What a journey! ... After suffering from anxiety from a really young age (and never really knowing what it was) it seems like a no-brainer that I self medicated with drugs and alcohol. When I became clean, then it seemed normal to me, to find some other seemingly healthy addiction or perhaps more socially acceptable addiction. For me it was over exercising through years of competitive sport. When I work I always over commit, I keep busy, to the point of exhaustion. This is my sympathetic nervous system. Being in a constant state of fight or flight suited me for many many years. In fact its uncomfortable and completely foreign for me to relax. As much as I do yoga, and breathing techniques, chanting, reading self help books, I still feel like I have only just uncovered the tip of the iceberg. I am so much calmer, clearer and self aware than I used to be, but still so far to go. When we breath deep we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, this tells us we are safe. It also lets your guard down, so if you are storing any emotions then this may be when they come out. This is also when you may squish them back down, hoping they will go away by ignoring them. If you have spent a lifetime of avoiding these emotions, I feel like you will switch back over to the sympathetic nervous system as soon as you feel uncomfortable. Adrenaline and cortisol pumps, the breath becomes shallow. You run on this energy of adrenaline until you drop. So at what detriment is this to your body in the long run??? Keep in mind this is only my opinion. The body will fatigue if you run on adrenaline. The nervous system is strained, the immune system becomes strained. They talk about excess adrenaline and cortisol causing inflammation, and then doesnt that spark a reaction from your immune system? I feel like that is what has been happening to me. COVID gave me the gift of being forced to slow down. I loved it, for a while....then feelings started to surface, panic attacks happened, unexplainable physical pain, my hair started falling out. My body said if you dont slow down and release this now, then your are in for a world of hurt So this is me, slowing down. Embracing all the things that come with it. To embrace the hair loss I shaved my head. When my body hurts I stop and breathe. When the panic comes, I stop to recognise the fear behind it, and I cry......a lot. We are all healing, we are all brave. This is my brave bald head, vulnerable and beautiful just like me. I hope this can help someone else struggling right now.

01.01.2022 Today is the last day of yoga for 2020! What an amazing and different year. With Covid challenges and my own mental health struggles, this year has been a blessing in disguise for me. Lockdown gave me time for self reflection, spiritual growth and transformation. Having been very honest and open with all class participants throughout the year, has made me even more grateful for the wonderful bunch of people I have joining me for classes each week. ... Thank you for your company, sharing your energy, being patient during technical online learning processes. Thank you for your acceptance of me as I am. Thank you for trusting me. Sharing stories of our struggles makes us all feel more human and less alone. Even the most enlightened of people have bad days. We are all have the same miracle of energy pulsing through our body...that makes us one Namaste & Merry Christmas
