25.01.2022 What a lovely gesture - a ‘mystery woman’ has paid for all the lay-bys in a toy shop in Melbourne. Love a bit of kindness with no expectation of anything in return!

24.01.2022 At Vinnies we are celebrating ‘Blue’ Friday, an alternative to the Black Friday sales which have gripped the internet this week. If you plan to pick up some bargains online, consider adding some kindness to your cart by donating to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. This year, more than ever, families need your help to celebrate a Christmas like no other. Click on the link below to find out how Covid has affected David and his family, and what you can do to help.... https://bit.ly/3m7nYbj

24.01.2022 And... we're back! (Well, almost). Most Vinnies shops will be open again from tomorrow (Monday 23 November) in line with usual trading hours. Many thanks to staff and volunteers who have once again risen to the occasion and responded flexibly despite the uncertainty. Let's hope it's for the last time!... 22.01.2022 We know you’re probably feeling a bit overwhelmed by today’s announcement, and overloaded with information. We’ve kept this update short and sweet, but wanted to let you know what we’re doing to keep our community safe. Many thanks to our staff and volunteers who are again putting others before themselves.... Stay safe and take care Please see our response at https://bit.ly/3pBgbVv

22.01.2022 Two weeks until Christmas Day! If you're having trouble coming up with gift ideas, why not pick up something unique at a Vinnies shop, or perhaps a Vinnies gift card? Shop sales fund the work we do supporting vulnerable members of our community, and with the year we've had that's now more important than ever.... 21.01.2022 Today, 25 November, is the United Nations-declared International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and marks three years since the Vinnies Women's Crisis Centre opened. Since opening, the Centre has been home to almost 3,000 women and children, the majority of whom are fleeing domestic violence. The Centre also houses pets, as we know that the prospect of leaving pets behind can be a barrier to women escaping a violent relationship. You can find out more abou...t the Centre here - www.vinnies.org.au/VWCC The Centre is designed as a 'soft place' for women and children to land, providing safety and the opportunity to make decisions in a stress-free environment. To enhance communications and the sense of community for guests, a newsletter has been developed and one of the guests kindly shared some of her beautiful poetry in it recently. Thanks 'K' for your heartfelt words. Sending strength to everyone impacted by violence. ' "I know the darkness seems unending I know because I’m here with you. I feel your despair, your fear, your loss of hope. I know, because I’m with you. I’m also searching for the light, seeking that silver lining. - I have your hand - I know you feel you’re all alone, but I’m here, I understand. You’re not alone, you never were, you’re never going to be. There’s many of us, all over the world holding on together, walking within this darkness, united. I know you, I hear you, I see you and I feel what you feel. You’re not alone, I am with you, I’ll be your light."

20.01.2022 Excellent news with the announcement that the lockdown will end at midnight on Saturday night. There is understandably quite a bit of anger in the community due to the actions of one person, but blame at this stage is unhelpful. Let’s be grateful that life will return to our new ‘normal’.... We are now working through how to resume our usual operations, including when the Vinnies shops will re-open. Stay tuned for details! Enjoy your new found freedom in accordance with the directions of course - https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/response

18.01.2022 Today’s the day! Hope to see you at Victoria Park, Vinnies Mount Barker or Anytime Fitness Victor Harbor with an unwrapped Christmas gift for a child in need.

18.01.2022 It's World Kindness Day! There are lots of quotes about being kind, but we love this one from Rabbi and author Harold Kushner, because there is no expectation of reward. At Vinnies, we are proud of our 2,500+ volunteers who give freely of their time to make the world a kinder and more compassionate place.

15.01.2022 Now that our 'mini' lockdown is over, if you're heading to the shops, why not consider popping in to your local IGA? While you're there, pick up a $2 IGA Appeal token - all funds from their sale will help Vinnies put food on the table of a family who may never have needed support before. For many Australians families, the festive season and beyond will be looking very different this year - just $2 can help.

14.01.2022 We are proud to be partnering once again with IGA to support Australians who have lost their jobs and livelihood during COVID-19, helping them to pay for basics such as food, rent and bills. Head into your local IGA this November and December to help locals in need by buying a $2 IGA Appeal token. Find out more at https://www.iga.com.au/igaappeal/

14.01.2022 It's pageant day this Saturday, so what better way to get into the Christmas spirit than by picking up some Christmas decorations at the Vinnies Hawthorn Market Day? We'll have bargains galore outside the shop, including a range of Christmas decorations so you can start 'decking the halls'. Vinnies Hawthorn is located at 21 Abbotshall Road Hawthorn, and is open on Saturday from 10am til 4pm.

09.01.2022 When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade and when a Covid outbreak turns the Fred's Van Gawler food prep site into a testing station, you turn to your loyal supporters for... pasta! That's just what has happened this week, with the Gawler Sport & Community Centre acting as a testing station to help contain the Covid cluster.... Hearing that we were unable to prepare meals for the guests who visit Fred’s Van each week, Fasta Pasta have supplied us with vouchers so that no one goes hungry. Fasta Pasta have supported Fred’s Van for many years, providing lasagne and other goodies for the city service each week. They also made a significant contribution to the Vinnies Bushfire Appeal earlier in the year. So, thanks Fasta Pasta for coming to the rescue not all super heroes wear capes, but their delicious Fettucine Puttanesca does have capers, and that's kind of the same thing!

09.01.2022 2020 has been a year like no other. Thousands of Aussies have experienced poverty for the first time. Centrelink has had long queues. Companies have laid off hundreds of employees. Behind these stories are peopleparents and their children at breaking point. For the first time, they're wondering how they can keep their family afloat.... Will you help bring them out of poverty this Christmas? https://bit.ly/3f2HiDX

09.01.2022 The Vinnies Migrant and Refugee Centre fundraising pizza event at the The Feathers is still going ahead, assuming no 'circuit breakers', 'pauses', or 'mini lockdowns' between now and December 7. Seating is limited however, so don't delay! Book now at https://bit.ly/3m1T4kY

06.01.2022 Have you picked up a $2 IGA Appeal token to support locals in need? Your spare change can go a long way to help Vinnies support people who are doing it tough to pay for basics like rent, food and bills. Dig deep Australia!

06.01.2022 Today marks just six weeks until Christmas Day, so your thoughts may be turning to buying gifts for family and friends. But for many families throughout the state, celebrating Christmas is going to be particularly difficult this year: if you're having a hard time putting food on the table or paying basic bills, how can you afford gifts or a Christmas meal? The MRASA Toy Run has supported Vinnies for more than 40 years, collecting toys for us to distribute to families in the l...ead up to Christmas. This year, COVID-19 has been responsible for the cancellation of many events, so we're delighted to announce that the MRASA Toy Run is still going ahead on Sunday 13 December, it will just look and feel a bit different to past years. Due to COVID restrictions there will be no mass ride and no family day at Callington. Riders are instead encouraged to get together in small groups and drop toys off at between 8am and 12pm in Victoria Park Adelaide, and between 9am and 1pm at Anytime Fitness in Victor Harbor and Vinnies in Mount Barker. Can you help? Go to www.vinnies.org.au/ToyRunSA to find out how.

05.01.2022 It’s the annual MRASA Toy Run, but not as you know it! Our Drop and Go zone at Victoria Park has attracted a lot of interest and, importantly, lots of toys! There’s still time to brighten a child’s Christmas by dropping in a toy - we’ll be here til midday.

05.01.2022 Today is Remembrance Day, commemorating the day that World War I ended in 1918. Today, we pause to remember the suffering and loss of all wars, as well as the courage and achievements of those who continue to serve. Lest we forget.

02.01.2022 ***Reminder*** Vinnies Hawthorn has got you covered for Christmas decorations and other bargains at their Market Day today. It’s a beautiful day, so why not get out and enjoy it?
