25.01.2022 Zoos Victoria is live streaming their penguins, snow leopards, lions, giraffes & zebras. While watching, ask your child to share their knowledge of the animals. Some simple questions may include: - What does it eat? -What features are in the habitat? (Water, food, places to sleep)... -How is it similar to the last animal we saw? How is it different? Some possible lines of development you may wish to do with your child could include: -reading story books such as Dear Zoo, Penguins on Parade, A Lion in the Night -Creating your own animal habitat. You might use a shoebox, lego or natural materials like rocks and sticks -Draw a picture of the animals you saw -Move your body like a giraffe, penguin, snow leopard, zebra and a lion. -Could you keep a giraffe in your back yard?? Some animals are much larger than we think. Find out how big a giraffe really is, and mark out the size on the ground with masking tape or chalk. Please feel free to share pictures of your child's learning on the OWNA app or email [email protected] https://www.zoo.org.au/animal-house

24.01.2022 What does a child led program look like? Over the last few weeks ‘weddings’ have been in the children’s language during play. Today a child arrived in a Bow tie ready for his wedding. ... Arriving to Bush Kinder the children began exploring and discovering uninterrupted while the educators considered how to sensitively facilitate the children’s interest in weddings into the program. Before lunch the whole group met at the yarning circle to discuss what wedding are and appropriate age to get married. The children expressed their thoughts and ideas, with shared knowledge from educators and some sprinkles of rain gave us the best recipe for us to act out and pretend weddings! The children proposed to each other, getting consent and respecting those who chose not to be wed, the vows were of kindness including an exchange of rings promising to be kind, followed by a hug, celebrated with friends and supporters who played clapping sticks. Acting out scenarios helps children make sense of the world. Educators being responsive to the children’s interests and ideas provide rich learning environments for children. #VioletTownKinder #BushKinder #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ChildLedProgram #childrensvoice #kindness #celebrations #pretendplay #dramaticplay #promotinglanguageandcommunication

20.01.2022 Where are you Most Beautiful? This term we have been discussing and embracing kindness. Today we read the book written by Australian author Jasey Stanley - Where are you Most Beautiful? Nurture With Words - Children's Books... After looking at the cover, before reading the book we asked the children what does ‘beautiful’ mean? Most children responded with Pretty. This book is a lovely read that promotes positive body image and self esteem written in a style appropriate for kindergarten children. It looks at the beauty inside a person and relates beauty to acts of kindness, thoughtfulness and selflessness. We will continue to explore kindness, positive body image and self worth. We aim for children to develop a lens that sees beauty in actions, words and thoughts. #VioletTownKinder #beautifulinsideandout #socialemotionallearning #earlychildhoodeducation #positivebodyimage #wearebeautiful #strongandwise #intentionalteaching

13.01.2022 Picking Mulberries! The children love this time of year when the Mulberry tree begins to have ripe mulberries. Lots of time today was spent reaching, collecting and tasting delicious mulberries. The children showed their resourcefulness by rolling the logs over to stand on to reach up high in the tree.

11.01.2022 We value a strong connection to nature and understand the rich learning experiences the natural environment provides. The arrival of Spring has encouraged the sensory experience and stimulation of bare feet on different surfaces, the feel of feet dipping into water and toes squelching in mud. Our kindergarten children are becoming experts at exploring, discovering and collecting. Finding insects, tadpoles, animal prints left in the mud. ... The children have been crushing ochre and painting on natural items including logs, bark and boulders. We support exposing children to risk in a supervised and partnered approach. Recently we have introduced wood work tools such as hand saws, drills, whittlers and rasps. The children are learning to manipulate the tools developing their fine-motor skills in the process. We discuss risks with them and support the children to assess the risks they encounter. Thanks to the Euroa Arboretum for hosting our Bush Kinder sessions and Benalla Bus Lines for getting us there and back safely. Our wonderful bus driver even created some seed pod creatures, that inspired the children to create their own. #VioletTownKindergarten #VioletTownandDistrictEarlyChildhoodCentre #BushKinder #natureplay #tadpoleseason #outdoorlearning #euroaarboretum #riskyplay #earlychildhoodeducation #calm #inquisitive #explorers #discovering

06.01.2022 Today Violet Town Kindergarten enjoyed a Bush Kinder session at Shadforth Reserve with our integrated 3 & 4 Year Old Kindergarten program. We understand and value the rich learning opportunities that are supported by the natural environment. We are fortunate to have easy access to Shadforth Reserve to be the place to support our children to grow. Today's adventures included balancing on logs, building cubbies, searching for insects, digging in dirt, noticing nature on a bush... walk, finding animal poo and guessing which animal it came from, finding mushrooms and learning to only touch them with a stick because some wild mushrooms can be dangerous, throwing sticks, stones and leaves into the water, playing hide and seek in the long grass AND we found the mysterious Violet Town "Bunyip" footprint! It was a beautiful day, we ran through the long wavy grass (swishy swashy), went through the mud ( squelch, squerch), went through the forest (stumble, stumble, trip) and we want to do it all again! We recommend you go exploring at Shadforth Reserve this weekend.
