25.01.2022 This is natto. Japanese fermented soybean. It tastes like coffee but has a very stringy snot like texture which can be hard to get past. For this reason I eat it slightly frozen. 21.01.2022 Today is international Womens day and while it is not a "food" day I will be having a cup of coffee and probably cake with some special women in my life. So often on these days we hear about the women who are doing big things, with big profiles I wanted to remind you that you are amazing, that you are strong, that you can do anything. I am also grateful for the amazing men in my life, starting with my Dad who taught me I can do anything I want to and that it is okay to be s...oft and emotional if thats how I want to be. My husband who reminds me that its okay to do things in my professional life in a different way to the men I am surrounded by that to succeed I just need to be me. I am also mindful of all the little girls who are born in countries where they are not so lucky, where being a woman is not celebrated. When I learned I was having a little girl I wished for her to be someone who is strong, who speaks her mind and who would never let her gender hold her back. I may have wished a little hard on the first two...... Thank you to all the women in this group who are doing the best they can to feed themselves and the next generation good wholesome real food. I raise my coffee cup to you and ask you to take a moment today to thank a woman in your life who has made a difference to you. Big big love and happy international womens day.

It's antiviral and antibacterial properties help fight infection including the common cold. 20.01.2022 Getting ready for #winter. This brew is known as master tonic or fire cider and will kill all nasty cold or flu bugs within miles. Its equal quantities #onion, #garlic, #chilli, #ginger and usually horseradish but I used #turmeric instead. Soak the ingredients in raw apple cider vinegar for at least 2 week then strain and store the liquid in the fridge. No big deal but j and I are dosing up on fire tonic to boost immunity and ward off the lurgy. this mixture is antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial and antipathetic, thats a whole lots anti. Also known as fire water, plague tonic and master tonic this stuff is a must have for winter. Simple to make but takes 2 weeks to brew so get on to it. in a large jar mix together equal quantities garlic, onion, ginger root, turmeric, horseradish and Chili. Cover with apple cider vinegar Pop the lid on and wait, giving a little shake each day. Strain solids after 2 week and take daily shots of the liquid. I dilute with water and add raw honey for elise.

16.01.2022 Rolled oats make a great start to the day. Low gi, good slow release carbs, beta glucan to lower cholesterol, quick to make and seriously cheap. Soak the oats in water overnight. Drain then cook for about 5 minutes with your choice of milk. Add some seeds, lsa mix, pysillium husks, hemp seeds....whatever you fancy. 13.01.2022 Is low-fat dairy is healthier than full fat? You know by now just how much I love dairy. The thought that eating my beloved cheese and butter is doing me harm just doesnt sit well at all. Did you know that studies have shown that eating full-fat dairy products is not linked to an increased risk of heart disease or obesity? In fact, full-fat dairy from grass fed cows is associated with a decreased risk of heart disease.... Low-fat dairy is more processed than its full-fat sister so that alone is a red flag for anyone trying to follow a real food diet. Plus the fatty acids in the dairy help us feel more satisfied and send the signal to stop eating, not so the low-fat variety so we can end up consuming more calories overall, leading to weight gain. The fat also carries vitamins A and D so these need to be added back in when the low-fat milk is skimmed. Psychology also kicks in, if I gave you a bowl of ice cream and told you it was low fat I am willing to bet you would eat a larger helping than if I told you it was full fat, in which case you would savour and enjoy a smaller portion. Low-fat cheese is pretty tasteless so you need to use more to get any flavour into the dish. Taste definitely comes into it and some people simply prefer the taste of low-fat milk in tea or coffee totally fine if thats your reason but dont do it because you think its healthier. I give you full permission to enjoy real butter, full-fat yoghurt and cheese just remember that full-fat dairy is calorie dense so watch your portion sizes. Are you a low of full fat advocate?

Sorrel is part of the buckwheat family, It can be used as a herb or leaf vegetable it is high in vitamin A and contains some calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and vitamin C. Sorrel has inbuilt "wow" factor, the startlingly sour leaf, if paired with more evenly balanced flavours, turns a simple meal into something very special. Plus you just poke it into the garden and it grows. How do you use it?... Add finely sliced to green salads Shred and fold into and omelet with a handful of grated cheese Add to a soup made with sweated onion, red lentils, and chicken stock Add to a smoothie with strawberries and banana Use to stuff chicken Peach and sorrel salad with a good glug of olive oil and a few macadamias Sorrel and asparagus tart Whizz equal weights of fresh sorrel and Greek yoghurt with a garlic clove, some olive oil and a little Dijon mustard use to dress roasted vegie or potato salad. Rhubarb and Sorrel salad. (serves four) This crunchy, crisp, sharp salad is ideal for spring and early summer. 50g red quinoa 40g radishes (about 3 small ones), cut into 3mm slices (I use a mandoline) 130g rhubarb (about 1 stalks), cut diagonally into 3mm slices 100g celery (about 2 stalks), cut diagonally into 3mm slices 50g parmesan, finely shaved 1 granny smith apple, cored, quartered and cut into 3mm wedges For the dressing 90g sorrel leaves 5 tbsp olive oil tsp Dijon mustard 2 tsp white-wine vinegar 1 tbsp sour cream Salt Bring a medium saucepan of water to a boil. Add the quinoa and gently simmer for about 12 minutes, until cooked but still al dente. Strain, refresh and drain. Put all the dressing ingredients bar one tablespoon of oil into the small bowl of a food processor, add three-quarters of a teaspoon of salt and blitz smooth. Put all the salad ingredients in a large bowl. Pour over the dressing, add the remaining tablespoon of oil, mix together gently and serve.
