24.01.2022 What a great weekend and even had a swim at the beach too.

24.01.2022 Don't let this be you. Picking up the phone works.

24.01.2022 Answer your phone Now this happened today. I had a call from a new client, simply because I answered my phone.... She said I've called four different people that do similar work, no one answered or it went to voicemail. I am in a hurry and I'm not going to leave a voicemail each time. I asked why me, she said not only are you professional, but you answered your phone. How hard is it to answer the phone. Remember, that phone call you missed today, yesterday or last week, could have been a potential client. So try to make sure you answer your phone. #phone #answerphone #work

22.01.2022 Tip for the day. If you call a client rather than sending an email. You will hear their voice, you will be able to have a longer chat, rather than a long email thread.... You will learn more about them and their business, their personality, their goals. People like to share. Do something different and pick up the phone, be someone that doesn't sit behind the computer and ask questions, be someone that picks up the phone.

22.01.2022 I posted this a few years back and it went viral. This was before COVID and it truly still applies today.

22.01.2022 #membershipsites Recently I have noticed since COVID in Australia began that new membership websites are popping up with sign here for 12 months and list your business at a cost of course. Now don't get me wrong, employers and other businesses may look at these websites, but they need to be pretty big and how do you know if they have the best SEO so when people search.... Personally, nothing beats obtaining your own work, without having to use membership sites. I realise many businesses are doing it really tough. But at the end of the day, what I do as a BDM, I get on the phone. I call that business, that customer, whoever it may be. You shouldn't rely on membership sites to obtain work. I have never once ever signed up to any of these membership sites and have never had a problem obtaining work, even during COVID. So if you can't afford to outsource, then get on the phone and call. If calling scares the daylights out of you, I have a FREE workshop coming up in January 2021, but if you need help in the meantime, contact me anytime. 21.01.2022 Don't miss out I am now taking bookings for February 2021. I am having some time off during January.... I am slowly getting booked with clients needing a Business Development Manager to call past clients, what I would call 'warm leads' It is a great idea to start the new year. Initiating a call at the beginning of the year sets the foundation to build on. Imagine I call a past client of yours who is considering doing business with you. Don't miss such a great opportunity. My BDM cold calling packages start at 50 calls. Why don't you consider this as part of your marketing strategy for 2021. https://barbaraburstall.com.au/bdm-cold-calling-packages/ Cheers Barbara

21.01.2022 A client of mine followed up on a lead that I obtained almost a year ago for her. At the time, the lead wasn't organised and wanted to wait, maybe because of COVID or because of financial reasons. So we kept in contact via emails and phone calls. I received an email from that same client saying that lead is not a lead anymore, but is now a brand 'new client' who she is onboarding and looking after.... That lead from a year ago is quite a large customer and will bring stable $$$ for my client. Sometimes you have to be patient when cold calling, when following up. Just shows even after a whole year, time doesn't matter. People don't forget how you spoke to them, how you followed up and kept in contact, even after 12 months. Follow up works. #followup

16.01.2022 If you are obtaining your own leads, you will encounter from time to time - tyre kickers. There are heaps of them around at present. People are basically going from one company to the next to get the best bang for their buck (so to speak). It can be frustrating and time wasting, but there are a few questions you can ask from the get-go to eliminate this.... 1. What is their timeline to commence work (is it urgent, do they need it next month, next week?), this will give you an idea how eager they are. 2. What is your budget? Do they actually have a budget, they may say I'm just shopping around for the best price. If they do say that, more then likely, that's all they are doing, shopping around, they are not in the mindset of spending. 3. Are you wanting quality or quantity? This one definitely tricks them, because they will say, quality of course, but then they may turn around and say oh quantity..just sit and listen, you will know. 4. When they start asking things in greater detail, you have hooked them, but if they sound a bit wishy-washy, then you know they are just tyre kickers. When people are definite with what they want, you will know. Don't waste your time on tyre kickers, it's not worth your time nor your energy. If you need help, then give me a call.

15.01.2022 Having a conversation We are all trying to market our businesses in one way, shape or another and it's all too easy for many people to get behind the keyboard on social media. Having a conversation with a person, a new client, customer is a fantastic way to obtain new business as well as nurture existing business relationships you have with existing clients/customers.... I think especially during COVID-19 that even though more people are on social media, actually having a phone conversation really 'seals the deal'. I've been calling on behalf of clients over the last few weeks and the feedback has been amazing, better then it has been prior to COVID. I ring on behalf of the client as their BDM. More people are answering the phone and they do want a chat...... Can you believe it....people actually want to talk...(being slightly sarcastic here). But just having a conversation how they are doing in their business, what are they finding are their biggest challenges at the moment or how they have been pivoting their businesses etc, people actually want to talk and from that...people are more open in doing business. So for anyone that thinks calling is 'dead' - believe me it is far from dead, it's well and truly alive and well and kicking and I've never seen it in the last 10 years in business being on the road as a BDM and working virtually as a BDM, this truly has been the best time to talk to clients.... So if you don't or cannot afford to outsource this task, then pick up the phone, make 5 calls a day, just try it out.. Believe me... It works!!!!!...... Cheers Barb.

14.01.2022 This is what I mean by Follow up. I bought my house 12 months ago and I love it how the agencies always send you that letter.... It's been 12 months..etc etc If you have a CRM system. Use it. It doesn't take much to communicate with a client and to follow up. #raywhitebundaberg

12.01.2022 Now more then ever, use this opportune time to market your business and outsource to a Virtual BDM today.

12.01.2022 We may have not even seen the Economic Impact (WAVE) of COVID just yet. Now that Job Keeper is reducing and will only continue at a smaller capacity until March 2021, businesses are looking at new ways to encourage more business moving forward. Have you thought about going back to the traditional way of contacting leads either by phone, email?... Have you thought about just calling a past customer, just to have a chat, see how they are doing? Have you offered working with another business at a reduced fee? These are just some ideas you may want to consider. I work as a Business Development Manager and if you are not sure what I do, I work alongside you and your team ‘virtually’. I help nurture your leads, I call your prospects, I learn about your business, your product, your service. I help you develop and grow your business. Yes I make appointments, I cold call, but I do so much more then that. Check out my website if you want to know more www.barbaraburstall.com.au

08.01.2022 So for those people that don't know me personally, I am actually a pretty keen gardener. I'm also been growing my own produce during COVID and expanding that even more. It's weird how many people have now gone back to the way 'things were', having a garden and growing your own veggies and fruit in your own back yard. Even for me last year before COVID, I downsized to a small little 2 bedroom cottage, whereas I was living in a large 4 bedroom home.... I'm actually glad that people are becoming more aware of the simple things in life. It's not always about money, the rush of everyday living... Have you slowed down during 2020?

08.01.2022 Don't be that customer that asks what does it cost straight up! Be that customer that asks themselves what can they gain! #virtualbusinessdevelopmentmanager #coldcalling #followupcalls

06.01.2022 #toughtimes Don't think you are alone. I've been calling a few business owners of late as that is what I do. I work as a Virtual Business Development Manager for businesses, both large and small, so I'm calling B2B and B2C.... The census of opinion is, it is much harder for people to sign off on a job, to actually part with the $$$$. Many businesses are holding off doing anything, they are not spending. It's fear more then anything else, that uncertainty of what lies ahead. With COVID, School Holidays, Christmas just around the corner and the New Year approaching, business owners are uncertain, should they spend, or should they hold off. So if you are like many hundreds of businesses, the old adage, you need to spend money to make money, even during uncertain times. It doesn't have to be a big spend, but you need to keep operating, moving forward. I realise many businesses have had a drop in earnings, but have a look where you can save and where you should be spending. Yes uncertain times are ahead, but it's also exciting to know that those that keep pushing forward will succeed, just like our ancestors who have gone through many Depression periods and Recessions before us. Keep pushing forward. #virtualbusinessdevelopmentmanager

05.01.2022 #leads #timing #timingiseverything #covid19impact Many people ask me when is the best time to follow up on a lead. If you have emailed or phoned a lead, say for example on a Friday, I would give it a few days, if you haven't heard anything from them, no response, then I would call them by phone on Wednesday the following week. ... If you email them, it's not the same. Some people may be having some clichés with email and may have not received your correspondence or just haven't had a chance to read the information. As a Virtual Business Development Manager, calling leads, is not actually getting any harder or difficult during COVID, but timing is everything. Customers are taking longer to make a decision. Customers are watching where they are spending their money. Customers want to see a return on their investment (ROI). Don't be discouraged if when you call, they still haven't made a decision. Tread lightly, offer them support, but you do need to ask them a timeline in when they will be making a decision. Otherwise you might be left hanging. If they can't give you a timeframe, then are they 'that serious' in doing business with you. If you need assistance with outbound calls, cold calling, lead generation, following up warm leads, contact me anytime. #virtualbusinessdevelopmentmanager Cheers Barbara Burstall

05.01.2022 Working in a niche market brings about various questions from clients. Why does it cost that much to call? Why should I use your services?... ............. When was the last time you sweated over making just 5 calls to 5 clients? People don't like to get on the phone to make a call. For me it's easy, it's second nature. I can do it in my sleep. I've done this kind of work for over 10 plus years. When we look at outsourcing, we tend to concentrate on the cost as the main factor. I understand that...but you also need to look at the result and the time factor. If you had to make 20 calls a day, would you do it? I doubt you would, because either 1. Your fear/anxiety would stop you picking up the phone 2. You don't have the time, you know you should do it, but your too busy working on your business, so it gets put in the 'too hard basket' 3. You fear the rejection from the other person/client on the phone Does this sound familiar? I price accordingly because I provide a niche service in the marketplace. Think about it next time you ask those questions! #virtualbusinessdevelopmentmanager

05.01.2022 Love this! Happy Friday everyone!

03.01.2022 Hey everyone Have had a number of inquiries of late from people wanting my help as a BDM on an adhoc hourly basis. Unfortunately I have not setup my business model in that way, so if you only need someone for 1 to 2 hours, then I'm not your BDM. However, if you need a BDM who you want to learn about your business and become an extension of your business, then yes I am here to help you.... Cheers Barbara Burstall - Virtual Business Development Manager

01.01.2022 Don't let COVID stop you from making outbound calls to customers. If your business has been a bit up and down this year, your not the only one. Make these next 3 months count. Christmas is only just a bit over 3 months away. You know what happens at Christmas, everything stops...everything shuts down and because this year has been slow for many new and existing businesses, it's spring, get on that phone, make contact with that lead, you just don't know where it will lead you!
