22.01.2022 With restrictions easing across the nation and beauty salons due to reopen, it's important to understand the rules State by state advice can be found by searching your state (www. Vic .gov .au) I see lots of operators in our industry asking questions on industry forums daily... DENSITY rules still apply, even if your business can now hold up to 20 people at a time. What this means is that you MUST, where possible enforce the 1.5m distancing, especially between customers. You MUST ensure that you only allow one person per 4m2 of floor space within your premises. My hairdressing salon was 65m2 - see photos Which would equate to 16 people maximum However our 3 basins were not spaced 1.5 metres apart, and our stations were only 400mm apart Therefore we would only be able to operate every second chair (8 stations, 5 seats at colour table) Which equates to 3 hairdressers working on up to 2 clients each, utilising the large colour table and 4 stations, and the basins at either end. A maximum of 9 people in the premises due to 1.5m spacing. If you are in beauty, and you have 1 client and 1 staff member in a treatment room, you must not over crowd the other areas of your salon. Treat the other areas as your maximum floor space, and calculate your maximum clients/staff based on that floor space. Keep distancing your clients to every second chair or every second basin, and utilise Perspex screens if the spaces are too close, particularly in the basin area We will soon be back to normal, if we all continue to trade under the requirements

02.01.2022 Metropolitan Melbourne lockdown commenced from midnight last night. Sadly beauty salons, gyms, massage parlours, tattooists are unable to trade during the lockdown I see lots of questions in the industry groups on Facebook regarding hairdressing. From the DHHS website - ... "Hairdressing businesses can operate, provided they comply with requirements for record keeping." Social distancing rules still apply. It would be wise to check with your local government council or your local MP if you have any questions regarding your hairdressing business during this lockdown period. You can also apply for a $5,000 business grant if you qualified for the previous Victorian government grant - business.vic.gov.au https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/shopping-and-retail-metropolita
