23.01.2022 On 12 July 1971, the #AustralianAboriginalFlag was raised for the first time at Victoria Square in Adelaide, to mark National Aborigines Day, now known as #NAID...OCWeek. Today, marks 49 years since the flag was first flown and it is a well recognised symbol of unity and identity for #IndigenousAustralians. Designed by artist Harold Thomas, a Luritja man from central Australia, the flag is designed to represent Aboriginal people and their connection to country. The yellow represents the sun and giver of life, the red is earth and the relationship to land and the black represents Australian Aboriginal people. We look forward to celebrating National NAIDOC Week 2020 to be held from 8 -15 November. #IndigLandSea #AustralianAboriginalFlag #IndigenousExcellence #NAIDOC2020 #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe

11.01.2022 Vale Uncle Mark Flanders! With the permission of Uncle Mark's family, we acknowledge and pay respect to the life of Uncle Mark Flanders who passed away 26/05/2...021. A proud Gumbaynggirr man, respected elder, custodian and cultural knowledge holder. Uncle Mark was an ambassador of the Gumbaynggirr nation and it's people. Uncle Mark's legacy extends to every corner of the Gumbaynggirr nation, and beyond through his role as a Discovery Ranger with NSW Parks where he delivered a range of cultural education programs and experiences. Uncle Mark was also a Senior Cultural Heritage Officer with the CH&DLALC and through this role passionately advocated and protected Gumbaynggirr cultural sites and objects through heritage assessments and identification. We have lost an irreplaceable and tremendous book of knowledge from the living library of the Gumbaynggirr people. He was a respected member of the Garby and Galambirla-Guuyu elders. You've done us proud Uncle. We love you, and will miss you dearly here at the CH&DLALC. We will remember everything you've taught us, and will continue the legacy you've so generously gave to us. The legacy of a life committed to protecting, living and sharing our Gumbaynggirr culture, knowledge and country. Yaanyjing yuludarlala (walking in the dreaming) <3

09.01.2022 Call Minister Sussan Ley and ask her to act now to protect Gomeroi cultural heritage from the Shenhua mine! Shenhua Australia wants to build a 10 million tonnes... per year coal mine near Breeza on the Liverpool Plains in the North Western slopes of New South Wales on Gomeroi country. The three giant pits to be mined harbour places of enormous significance to Gomeroi people, including a burial pathway, large grinding groove sites where warriors sharpened their spears, scarred trees and artefactual objects that together create a landscape of cultural and spiritual meaning irreplaceable to the Gomeroi Traditional Custodians. Dolly Talbott and her country needs our back-up. Call the Minister now on 02 6277 7920 See here for key messages to pass on to the Minister: https://bit.ly/gomeroi

07.01.2022 I am sorry to let you all know of some very sad news about Bernadette Allen, our friend, valued and much loved team member. Bernadette passed away Friday morning at the Gold Coast Hospital, after having head injuries and other complications associated with a fall at home, earlier in the week. I am letting everyone know that worked with Bernadette recently and also as many of you were her friends, cared for her and were her clients and colleagues.... Bernadette was a fabulous woman, much loved partner to Shane, fur mother to Woofter (her much doted on labradoodle) and daughter to Diana and Michael. Bernadette was a fantastic archaeologist, a formidable and highly intelligent and loyal woman who we are so lucky to have had graced us with her presence. Our team is so proud to have worked with and called our friend. Bernadette was generous and kind of heart and spirit. An incredible archaeologist, hard working and caring. Bernadette loved dancing and music (particularly the Pixies and Sonic Youth), bands and the beach, laughter, digging and fieldwork, telling naughty jokes and all things vintage and kitsch. We will miss her so very, very much and the news last Friday night has been devastating. We will post on our social media or let people know when her family is ready to announce the details of her funeral service (expected to be next week) to share to those who may wish to attend digitally. Our office will be closed Monday-Tuesday this week in respect for Bernadette and for our team to have some personal time to deal with the shock of this news. Thankyou already to everyone who has sent messages of kindness and support and I will pull these together to send to her family and to Shane. Remembering her today and always, our thoughts and prayers are with her family and Shane, we love her very much x Rest in peace our irreplaceable, Viking Queen, always too cool for school, and far too brighter star for this world x Mary-Jean and team

07.01.2022 Today is #EqualPayDay, marking the 59 additional days from the end of the previous financial year that women must work, on average, to earn the same amount as m...en earned that year. The gender pay gap in NSW is 14.6%, which means men are, on average, earning 15% more than women. As one of the largest employers in NSW, the NSW Government is leading by example in closing the gender pay gap. Through the NSW Premier’s Priority for a world class public service, which includes a goal to increase the proportion of women in senior leadership roles to 50%. By ensuring that 100% of roles across the government sector can be made flexible on an ‘if not, why not’ basis. The theme for #EqualPayDay 2020 is #KeepMindingTheGap. During this pandemic, it is important that employers (and all of us) continue to focus on gender equality. For more information on the gender pay gap, please visit: https://www.wgea.gov.au//the-gender-pay/equal-pay-day-2020

01.01.2022 There needs to be outrage over this disrespect during National Reconciliation from all Australians at how this happened and the arrogance of this occurring this week of all weeks. Outrage and sorrow at the poor protection and injustice of the WA heritage legislation that has allowed this to happen. As a company with several archaeologists we all hope that Australian Archaeological Association considers this issue further with their members and if it is appropriate to continu...e receiving sponsorship from Rio Tinto for conferences? Perhaps a membership survey on this issue as many of us tonight have discussed? Hope to hear further action is taken from Australia Archaeological Association and other heritage groups such as ICOMOS and AACAI and some formal outrage and action for this abhorrent destruction of cultural heritage and disrespect. https://www.google.com.au//rio-tinto-blasts-46000-year-old See more
