24.01.2022 A sunny day and good day on the job. Over 750 pieces of rubbish removed from Golden Beach. Thanks to our wonderful team The high tides brought in lots of broken down plastic pieces and decomposing soft plastic bags along with lots of fishing wire. We’ll see you all in 2021 as we continue on our journey for a plastic free sea. Our next clean up is taking place on 30th Jan as part of the Sunshine Coast Council’s Clean up for Hatchlings event. ... Protect our oceans! Tangaroa Blue Sunshine Coast Council

16.01.2022 Did you know that right now, there are more microplastics in our waters than there are stars in the Milky Way? As a continuation from last #savethereefsunday, t...his week your challenge is to #REFUSE! Yes - Recycling is great! Especially when it's done right! However, did you know that there are many, many steps you can take to reduce the amount that needs to be recycled in the first place? STEP 1: Refuse single-use items! If you can avoid plastic cutlery, plastic bottles and single use bags - then by all means do! It's so easy to bring your own set of utensils, a tupperware container, or a tote bag. By doing so, you're halting the item from going to landfill or to be recycled (that is if it successfully makes it all the way! STEP 2: Start shopping consciously. REFUSE buying items that are encased in plastic or non-reusable packaging. Bulk food stores, or even just buying fresh produce can minimize your plastic footprint significantly! Here are some items that you can easily refuse today: - Plastic straws - Plastic bags - Produce bags - Plastic styrofoam or to go containers - Cling wrap - Plastic toothbrushes What you can use instead: - Paper or metal straws - Canvas or other fabric bags - Reusable water bottles - Glass or metal containers - Bamboo toothbrushes - Wax paper, silicone wrap - BYO metal utensils! Challenge yourself to refuse single-use items and choose reusable ones instead! By all doing our small parts, we can make a difference and all contribute in the feat to #protectouroceans and #saveourreef! #reefcheckaustralia #savethereefsunday #refuse #Reefcycle #takeaction #allhandsondeck

13.01.2022 On Friday, we were informed of a live Tiger Shark on a drumline at North Peregian. That you to Sea Shepherd Australia who were able to get there to document it.... Despite being told, Fisheries Queensland decided not to attend that day to kill it humanely, but rather to let it die slowly overnight. This is over 13,100 Tiger Sharks killed in the @queensland cull now, and counting... Words from: Apex Harmony Campaign - Sea Shepherd Global Today is #WorldAnimalDay and this is not the news we wanted to be sharing. On Friday, a tiger shark was hooked on a drumline on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. The shark was reported to the Queensland Shark Control Program who left the shark to die slowly overnight. It is entirely possible to use non-lethal technologies such as drones to monitor and inform rather than kill and cull. Our Apex Harmony campaign continues its work to bring transparency to the brutality and pointlessness of the Queensland Shark Control Program. footage: Animal Liberation Queensland Australian Marine Conservation Society Humane Society International Australia #OpApexHarmony #TigerShark #NoSharkCull

10.01.2022 There's a killer just behind our surf breaks, and it's not sharks...
08.01.2022 Ahh glass .... Our Caloundra Spring into Scavenge found 105 glass bottles and 180 pieces of broken glass at their Scavenge . But glass seems easy to recycle... right ? Well lot's of contaminated glass items, such as the one pictured often get misplaced in the recycling, contaminating the entire bin to landfill . Here's how to ensure your glass is recycled properly . #springintoscavenge2020 Visionary Ocean Warriors
08.01.2022 The Ocean Crusaders CAPS CRUSADE operates in SE Queensland and receives up to 300,000 plastic bottle caps a day. In SE Queensland, 2.5 million beverage containers are returned daily. 30% of those are plastic bottles and 40% are being returned with their bottle caps on. We are encouraging our local community to collect all of your clean caps. We have a few local drop off points before we take them to an Express Recycling depot. Alternately you can take your caps directly t...o one of the many Express Recycling depots near you. Once they have been sent onto Ocean Crusaders they are sorted to ensure they only have plastic in them, some have foam inserts. Then the raw plastic caps are granulated, returning them to a granule form that can then be used in injection moulding or extrusion machines. This recycled raw plastic is then made into Crab Pot Floats that will eventually replace Polystyrene Crab Pots that break up and litter our waterways. Secondly Ocean Crusaders are looking to make plastic bricks out of all the remaining granules. These bricks will each contain 1.5kg of plastic so approximately 600 bottle caps. The bricks will eventually be sold and the funds raised will help fund their cleaning operations. A great project to support! #recycle
08.01.2022 Our last mini clean up at the rock pools north of Kings Beach took us on a broken glass adventure. There was so much glass, new and old, embedded in the rocks, buried in the sand and laying in the rock pools. 600+ pieces of glass was found as we carefully counted the haul to be entered into the Tangaroa Blue Australian Marine Debris Initiative. Along with the usual cigarette butts and food packaging. #beachclean #caloundra #tangaroablue #amdi #bethechange #protectouroceans #visionaryoceanwarrior
07.01.2022 Thanks to our dedicated local community supporting the Ocean Crusaders Cap Crusade. We dropped off our first collection to the friendly guys at Express Recycling
