25.01.2022 The HyperTran What is our most inspiring example of world-class infrastructure built since the Sydney Opera House (finished over 40 years ago)? One project this nation needs is a high-speed train network between Sydney & Melbourne, built using state of the art technology to be called the HyperTran (i.e. Hyper Fast Transportation Network) Read full article here: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/the-hypertran

25.01.2022 Not So Small Business There are a few important things that need to be said about small business in Australia. The first one is the name itself. I hate being called a small businessman. Its inaccurate and offensive. Read more here http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/small-business

25.01.2022 Public Asset Ownership Stand: That no politician have the right to arbitrarily sell any publicly owned asset without a specific mandate from the people. Background: In 1976, NSW Premier Neville Wran sold public land between Pyrmont and Strathfield which had been reserved for the M4 freeway extension. If youve ever youll travelled Parramatta road in peak hour youll know what a big mistake that has been. However, theyre at it again, selling off our assets without out ...consultation or approval. It needs to stop. 25.01.2022 Solar Energy Australia As the hottest country on earth the question is, why arent we the world leaders in Solar Energy. The reason is simply a lack of incentives and leadership. This needs to change. "The history of civilisation can be seen as the history of incentives they are the cornerstone of our economic life." ... Professor Steven Levitt See more

24.01.2022 Wake up Australia! As a nation were drifting with no clear vision of where our country will be in 50 years and what we want it to look like. Were making bad decisions based on short term gains (e.g. mining prime farm land for a short-term cash while risking the long-term viability of that land for future food production). The problem is largely that were far to reliant on government to solve our problems and create opportunities. At best, governments are reactionary. ... They are by nature, administrators, not innovators. In order to make this change the first thing Australia needs to do is adopt a new national identify. We need to lose the lingering sense of entitlement that being the lucky country once gave us and instead reinvent our selves as the Can Do Country. A Can Do Culture cuts red tape, ignores bureaucracy, makes decisions, takes risks, drives change, and gets things done! To solve the great challenges this country faces we must take a new approach, one which is much more pro-active and long term oriented. Vision for Australias mission is to advance bold visions and facilitate big decisions. Our timeline is oriented to immediate action leading to results that are current 50 years from now. What follows are conversations and provocations to that affect.

21.01.2022 The Population of Australia in 2060 We believe in a small Australia. Not small in ambition, achievement or greatness, not small in vastness, toughness or determination but literally, small in population. We dispute the notion that population growth is imperative for national prosperity. Australia faces a choice, become boutique nation of excellence or a bloated nation of mediocrity. Growths doesnt to mean bigger, it can just as legitimately mean better. We propose that Australians decide now by way of national referendum, what we want the population of our country to be in the year 2060 year.

20.01.2022 The Can Do Country; What does it mean to you? Lets talk more about this. Have you ever heard of the idea of Ready-Fire-Aim (instead of Ready Aim Fire)? What theyre really saying is just get the job started and not wait until everything is perfect. You just need to start. Australia has become mired in bureaucracy and red-tape. To much energy given to talking about big issues without actually getting in and getting them sorted out. Politics is a talkfest where issues ar...e endlessly debated but rarely actioned. As a nation we cant rely on others to solve our problems or create the next great opportunity. We need to take that responsibility for getting things done ourselves. Can-do-ness needs to become as culturally engrained as mateship. We need to be known as the nation who sets great goals and then gets started on achieving them. Can Do starts with you and me. It starts with can do companies, families, clubs and community groups. Ask yourself, what can I do today, right now, that will make Australia a better place to live? What can I do to improve my company, myself? What can I do to surprise my kids, my friends my boss, my customers? Think of something and then do it! Do it now is the by-line can-do ness. No procrastination, no excuses just getting in and getting started. Australia has some great challenges ahead. The world is becoming evermore competitive and for us to stay at the top we need to be striving to be the best. The best at what? How about engineering, medicine and curing so-called incurable diseases, social justice, entrepreneurship, swimming, football, statesmanship. In fact, whatever we decide! We need to become the nation known for aspiring to great visions then making them happen. We need a plan for the future, a bold vision which inspires us, and our children, and we need it now. The first step is for us to adopt a new national identity as the Can Do country. We need to shake off the red tape and leave behind the excuses. We need nothing less than to reinvent ourselves as the Can Do County and armed with this attitude we need to throw ourselves into creating the greatest-ever Vision for Australia Australia, the Can Do Country. Whats holding us back? http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au//the-can-do-country-w To participate in this discussion we invite you to join our group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VisionforAustraliaForum

20.01.2022 Public Asset Ownership We propose new legislation to prevent any government (Federal, State or Local) selling off any public asset (utility, land or otherwise), without firstly seeking a specific mandate from the relevant people to do-so.... 18.01.2022 Muslim Australia Respect and acceptance is our message to Muslim Australians. Hijabs and Burkas are as welcome as Akubras. Any vision for Australia should welcomes the Muslim community and encourages it to respect our heritage and enrich it with theirs.

18.01.2022 New Industry Mining has enriched our nation but, the days of digging everything up and selling it overseas are coming to an end. What will our next new foundational industry be? Why arent we thinking and exploring this as a national priority. One latent industry for Australia must surely be our unique ecology. So much of the infrastructure is already in place, the landscaping complete. It has been for about a million years and the world wants to see it. Untouched, raw ...and the way its been for ever. Link: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/new-industry

17.01.2022 Why, Vision for Australia? Politics has become the business of focusing short term problems. Its become largely reactionary and seems driven by the polls of the day. Vision for Australias prime focus is the long term future of our country. Its proactive and driven by grandchildren.

16.01.2022 Indigenous Australia The vision of reconciliation is a complex and sensitive matter and one of this countries most important national responsibilities. We believe true reconciliation requires the recognition of an aboriginal nation.... We see the indigenous nation as being a nation within a nation. Sovereign to a point with independent values, beliefs and governance but not to the extent of independent laws, currency or geography. In the sense that we acknowledge aboriginal people as the traditional owners of this land we see the same circumstances applicable to the formal recognition of an indigenous link: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au//-indigenous-australia nation.

16.01.2022 Talking about trains, I see that Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX is planning a new venture called the Hyperloop. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperloop Australia needs to be thinking about building a system which will carry us well into the 21st century. Wheel-on-rail has been around for 200+ years. If Australia were to build a wheel on rail system with the top speed 250km/h wed end up with the slowest high speed rail system in the world. :(

16.01.2022 The Hypertran Network Its very easy to argue against building a high-speed train network between Sydney & Melbourne based on big distances and low populations between these centres but I believe the positives out weigh the negatives. Consider this; 10,000,000 people travel between Melbourne/Canberra/Sydney each year! That is more than enough to sustain a high speed train network. Consider also the benefits that the long neglected regional centres would gain and things start to stack-up. Imagine living in Albury/Wadonga and taking a 40 minute train ride to work in either Melbourne or Sydney.

15.01.2022 Australian Agriculture Weve proven ourselves to be the best in the business at Agriculture. Weve led the world in wool production, cropping and beef cattle and we need a national recommitment to this sector order to regain our position as an Agricultural Super-Power. 14.01.2022 New Energy - An Energy Miracle Stand: That we the Australian Citizens, independently form a Research and Discovery Corporation whos sole objective is to determine our best new energy source. This project to be called The Mackerel Sky Project. Background: No-one knows what the next ubiquitous energy source will be but, what if we did? The fact is this, a new energy source is coming to a powerpoint near you very soon. Coal, oil and gas will be ancient history within your... lifetime. In their place will be a new clean, green energy source and if you knew what it was you could get in on the ground floor. I propose we (you and I) form in a new company to study every single energy-generating-source there is and tell us which one works and why! The benefits are clear: For more information visit: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/new-energy.html To participate in this discussion we invite you to join our group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/VisionforAustraliaForum

14.01.2022 Enterprising Democracy We propose a more direct system for citizens to initiate referendums on matters of national importance. We call it Enterprising Democracy. The system will facilitate discussion on a much broader range of topics (beyond jobs and the economy). It will enable citizens to more actively participate in the function of government by providing a much more open forum to discuss current issues as well as being a tool to bring about referendums on matters of national and long-term importance.

12.01.2022 Circular Square Australian Democracy has always lacked one essential element; a peoples square. A stage for national events and a preeminent national civic space for public gatherings because it is here that the constitutional rights of speech and peaceful assembly find their fullest expression.... More form blog: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/circular-square

12.01.2022 NEW ENERGY Im not saying our government is scared to make big decisions in this area, I think its more a case of that they simply dont know what to do. The simple fact of the matter is this: Australia (and the world) NEED a primary new source of energy and it needs to come online within our lifetime. The continued use of fossil fuels will irrevocably ruin our planet before it runs out. More action needs to be taken to find an alternative. The state of play is that a ne...w source of clean, green, limitless and largely free energy is possible and closer than you might believe. Barry Thompson, winner of the 2014 X Prize for Forbidden Energy; Physics tells us that alternative energy production is possible and it will totally change the game. Several sources are tantalisingly close, cold fusion and super-conductor technology are just two examples which offer us the chance to break away from fossil fuels altogether and into a new realm of energy production better suited to the 21st century. Australia has a right, and an obligation, to lead the world in this area. Were highly educated, industrious and, one of highest energy consuming nations per capita on the planet. The opportunity is to make this/these break-throughs here, patent the processes and licence them to the world. Unfortunately, this incredibly urgent topic isnt even on the national agenda. Politicians spend more time talking about what a pack of imbeciles their opposition is than they do planning how this transition will work. The Government will not fix this problem. They simply are not orientated or incentivised to do-so. Look at solar energy in this country. As the hottest country on earth with the highest rate of continuous sunshine in the world we should already have a vibrant solar industry and be the undisputed world leader in this field. Instead we have and overly expensive, under performing cottage industry. The reason is lack of incentive, lack of vision and a complete lack of leadership in making this a national priority. New Energy for Australia is coming and we need to plan for the most massive transition since the industrial revolution. The Mackerel Sky Project is one path you can take now to play a proactive role and not sit around waiting for someone in Canberra to do something. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt2XtGbefcY

12.01.2022 Aussie Agriculture - Do What We Do Best As Australia grows and changes our priority must be to lead, not follow. One area weve proven ourselves to be the best in the business is Agriculture. Weve led the world in wool production, cropping and beef production and we need a national recommitment to this sector order to regain our position as an agricultural super-power. There are however some alarming trends taking place in Australian Agriculture which, if not reversed, wil...l cruel Agriculture in this country for good. The sell-off of Agricultural land to foreign investors. Quite frankly it doesnt matter who the buyers are, be they Chinese Billionaires or American Superannuation Funds, selling agricultural land to overseas investors spells suicide for the long term future of Australian Agriculture. This country was built on the back of the family farm. Once its sold, it will NEVER be owned again. At the present trend, 50 years from today, Aussie ownership of agricultural land will be virtually non existent. Aussie farmers will be swinging off the spanner for their overseas bosses, will all the profits leaving Australia for foreign shores. The priority that mining is being given over Agriculture. This is the most short-sighted thinking imaginable. Allowing coal seam gas mining in some of Australias prime agricultural areas like the Darling Downs and Breeza Plains is pure. The government is prioritising 20 years worth of gas production over 200+ years of future agricultural production. It is insane policy and Locking the Gate is just one part of changing it. The drought of young Aussie Farmers. The average age of farmers in Australia today is something like 60. All the smart young talent is being forced to leave the land and seek work in other sectors. This is of course because there simply isnt the money in the bush anymore to keep them there. Again, this is insane. We need to be keeping and encouraging our young people to stay in the bush and to build great careers in Agriculture. The fact is this; There is a massive opportunity to provide high quality, clean green produce to the world and no country is better positioned than us to capitalise in what is essentially a limitless growth market. Our farmers are the best in the world. We can do this and we can make a fortune for our farmers and our country in the process. Australian agriculture needs to be given new respect and greater recognition and we need to make it a national priority to once again make Agriculture foundational to the future success of our country. I vote we make Agriculture a National Priority and a pillar of our Vision for Australia. http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog

11.01.2022 New Energy Australia Australia (and the world) NEEDS a primary new source of energy and it needs to come online within our lifetime. Several sources are tantalisingly close. 08.01.2022 Climate Change - The Thermostat is stuck on High! Vision for Australia recognises the real threat of climate change to the future health, wealth and prosperity of our nation. The basic fact is that no-one has yet come up with a way to maintain our lifestyle while curtailing cutting carbon emissions. It is a problem which is solvable and Australia should be a world leader in this area not a follower. More resources, greater incentives and stronger leadership should be given to this most important and critical of issues. More: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au//climate-change-the-t

08.01.2022 Agriculture was once this countrys greatest industry. Today, the big bucks are in mining and consequently, its the miners who dictate the terms to Canberra. The major problem with this is the government is making short term, profit driven decisions at the expense of the long term future of Australian agriculture. A typical coal-seam gas well has a lifespan of a generation (5-15 years) years but it leaves behind degraded soil and a contaminated water table which may neve...r recover in 20 generations. Every Australian needs to ask Is the risk of mining of coal-seam gas and oil really worth the price? Politicians are making short term decisions at the expense of the long term future of Australia. Prioritising gas over water and oil before soil must stop. Visit our website and participate in our survey: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog

08.01.2022 Australian trains are getting slower, not faster. One person who really makes complex things easy to understand is Dr Karl. Take a few minutes and watch this video of Dr Karl talking about Australia and high speed trains. http://youtu.be/p43zFsGbT-Q One thing he said which really stood out to me was that some train routes in North and South Sydney are slower now than they were in the 1930s. Let me repeat that: Some trains in Sydney are slower now than they were 80 years ago. This is what happens when we dont invest in our infrastructure.

07.01.2022 Selling the Farm Australia is selling its most precious resource, its farming land, willy-nilly to anyone who wants to buy it. Its akin to selling the goose that laid the golden egg. Its madness and it needs to stop! More info: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/-selling-the-farm

07.01.2022 The United Nations We believe the UN is the worlds greatest hope for peace & prosperity moving into the 21st Century. Of recent times the UN has seemed toothless and its ability to do good and effect positive change and this needs to change! Australia should work with all its power and influence to strengthen the UN. We should set the aim to have an Australian Secretary General within a decade. 07.01.2022 Income Tax In Australia We favour a single, simple flat-rate tax system of 35% which we believe will minimise bureaucracy, encourage entrepreneurship and make it fairer for all. No tax will be payable for those who earn under $35,000.

06.01.2022 Tax Tagging We propose the implementation of a new system called Tax Tagging whereby; Income tax is tagged and tracked so the taxpayer has a greater understanding how and where their money is being spent.... The tax payer gets to nominate where they want a portion of their tax money spent, i.e. a new hospital in their region or a new national high speed train network. Technically this would not be difficult to implement. Neither is it something which would be particularly expensive to set up. The Taxation Office in Australia has grown arrogant. If a business is a day late with their BAS payment theyre hit with a fine. If you need to call and ask them a question, youre put on hold for 40 minutes. Its about time the ATO was as accountable to the people of Australia as they expect us to be to them. Link: http://www.visionforaustralia.com.au/blog/tax-tag

05.01.2022 The more I see the more I realise that governments are administrators, not innovators. Their job is to manage a handful of policies and respond to whats happening around them. Their job is not to look into the future and create a great vision of what our country can be. In fact, thats the opposite of their job! The more they step outside their narrow job description the more likely they are to draw fire and ultimately lose the next election. So, if it isnt their job to think about and take steps for the long term future of Australia, then whos is it? Of course its our job, yours and mine. Fifty years from today, Australia will be a very different place, the question is; different good or different bad? Its up to us to decide.

04.01.2022 Common Wealth No one word defines more what Australia stands for than Commonwealth think about it, Common Wealth, shared prosperity, equal opportunity, a fair go. This has been our heritage and, god willing, it will be our future. As we stand now, we are part of a family of nations who value friendship and fairness and thats where we should stay. Any move to go it alone as a republic would be a backwards step. We have so many privileges as a Commonwealth country and so much that we can contribute back into this community.

01.01.2022 Press Release - Vision For Australia - 30 July 2014 Australia is facing a crisis. This issue is the absence of a shared vision for what our country will look like 50 years from now. 01.01.2022 Education - Creativity is more important that Counting Its widely agreed that Australia must continue to build a world class education system and this is something which we most certainly support.
