Don't apply for unnecessary credit, 'just to get a better rating' This is changing, however predominantly credit ratings in Australia reflect negative information. Getting a credit card you don't need just to pay it on time doesn't help 2. Your credit rating is affected by your stability Lets say your looking to buy a house, how often you have moved, changed your phone number, how long you have had the same job have an impact on the chances a bank will approve your loan. It is just as much about behavioural stability as it is about financial. 3. Credit ratings take time to improve, there is no way to speed up this process If you are looking at buying a house in the near future, it is important to take the right steps now. For example, rent and electricity are things you are paying for right now. Why not check your name is on the bills so that it can help reflect good behaviour for when you need it 4. A credit score 'number' isn't a true reflection of your credit rating Websites that offer a 'number' for your credit rating are not very accurate. This scheme allows you to access money you voluntarily have added to your super up to a total of $30,000 towards a house deposit for your first home. 2. these additional pre-tax contributions to super are usually taxed at 15%. This means you can save tax, if your income is taxed higher than 15%, and put it towards your first home. 3. $25,000 can be contributed to your super per financial year (totalling both obligated employer and your own voluntary contributions) Keep this in mind while your saving for that dream home.
