17.01.2022 Happy 200th Birthday Campbelltown! 200 years ago on this day, Lachlan Macquarie named "Campbell Town" after his wife, Elizabeth, whose maiden name was Campbell. Thus declaring Campbelltown a township. Of course the Campbelltown region first began with the Dharawal people thousands of years ago. Dharawal land has always been recognised as a meeting place for people from other lands, and we're proud as a Visitor Centre, to help continue this tradition here in Cam...pbelltown. We are fortunate here at the Visitor Centre to meet people on their journey from all walks of life, looking for things to experience in Campbelltown. 08.01.2022 RAILWAY PLATFORM BUILDING The final stop on the Queen Street Heritage Walk. Our main railway station was built in 1858 and was the junction station for Pansy, the famous tram who chugged along the Campbelltown-Camden line from 1882 to 1963. Campbelltown then celebrated the electrification of the line on May the 4th 1968. Visit Platform 2 and youll be pleased to see it is still one of the original railway buildings. 02.01.2022 MENANGLE HOUSE This fine example of colonial architecture was formally known as the Horse and Jockey Inn built in the 1820s. The sandstone building located to the side is actually the original homestead. This main house was built by George Taber and his convicts in 1834. Today it is part of the beautifully landscaped Menangle Country Club and is a popular spot for weddings and functions.
