13.01.2022 Were so excited to announce that were closing for interior renovations and staff training at Drift from this Monday, 7th September until our reopening on 1st ...October. After 5.5 years of operation down at the Bluff and months of planning/scheming in rona-virus quiet times were looking forward to giving Drift a fresh new look and reopening for breakfast, lunch and dinner beachside in October. We want to thank all of our regular customers for their support so far this year. After digging our heels in and trading through a rough start to 2020 were sorry for the inconvenience of our closure for the next few weeks but cant wait to show you all our progress in creating a new-look Drift for you all from October onwards. Until October, Dane + Jordy

11.01.2022 A GOOD NEWS STORY ... from The Antique Emporium "When we experienced the lock-down in April and the inevitability of losing 70% of our trade that we got from tourism/the Spirits, we immediately decided we needed to embrace/find a way to get more local traffic/sales or we would go under. ... So we more than doubled our floor area and expanded our range of dvds, cds, and LP records, so much so we believe we offer the largest selection in the state now. This has nearly tripled out sales in this area, making up for some lost sales in tourist related items (this investment has been expensive in covid times but I feel long term will pay off. You need to spend money to make money ) The last 2 years on the Coast, dvd and music stores have closed down, and we recognized a niche market to expand into this for those collectors, people still seeking those mediums. In the very near future we will house over 15,000 dvds, 6000 cds, 10,000 LP records - all vintage /collector items. Not only has this meant less reliance on tourism, but we have found people as far as Hobart are now coming to our store, and weekly. Our business continues to attract large numbers of people from other parts of the state not just to us, but the Devonport area" John Cole Antique Emporium, Devonport Tasmania Do you have a Good News story about a Devonport business that youd like to share?

03.01.2022 Social distancing does not mean social isolation. Local businesses need us more than ever at this time. There is no doubt that the unfolding Covid-19 situation is going to have a huge impact on small business, tourism, hospitality and the arts. The advice at present is to practice good hygiene and social distancing, The Australian Government Department of health has a great fact sheet explaining Social Distancing: https://www.health.gov.au//coronavirus-covid-19-informatio... It is still ok to go about your day, current advice is that you only need to isolate if you are feeling unwell. Keep an eye on the Department of Health website for the latest info https://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/.
