17.01.2022 Near Bhamo, Myanmar. . . . This is another image from the 2021 Visited Planet calendar. I was in Bhamo in a region where civil war was raging. There were curfews and limits on movement. But during the day we could travel around the region so I went on a bicycle tour that opened up interactions with locals and their lives. This was such a hidden corner of Myanmar at the time, and still is to some degree. This is a brief snapshot of a farmer and his kids returning from a day in... the fields. . . . #bhamo #myanmar #kachinstate #buffalo #visitedplanetcalendar2021 #calendar2021 #visitedplanetcalendar #lonelyplanetimages #travelimages #travelphotography #kidsphotography #myanmartrip #myanmartravel See more

17.01.2022 Monks at Tengboche monastery, Khumbu,Nepal. . . . This is another image from the 2021 Visited Planet calendar. Proceeds go to @camerasforasia. PM for details or to order. Tengboche sits at 3867m and is in the Khumjung village after a steep climb on the trek to Mt Everest Basecamp. I was pretty fortunate here to meet an Iranian journalist living in Norway who gave me a scarf for the final days and to have a room off the heated lounge. At night we sat around and shared stories.... There were three other single women trekkers, a Jewish American couple and some French travellers crammed into a handful of rooms with porters and guides and staff. Seems an impossible scenario in today’s Covid world, particularly as Nepal is not doing well with containing coronavirus. Happy memories for now. . . . #mteveresttrek #tengbochemonastery #tengbochemonasteryeverestbasecamptrek #everestbasecamptrek #nepaltrek #visitedplanetcalendar2021 #visitedplanetcalendar See more

13.01.2022 Casares, Andalusia, Spain. . . . What a jigsaw puzzle this would make? This traditional Andalucian white village is perched high on a mountain top with winding narrow streets and spectacular views. Happy memories. This is another image from the 2021 Visited Planet calendar, on sale now to raise money for @camerasforaisa contacts. 13.01.2022 Golden hues, Dalby. . . . The light in this tree gives me hope that after the darkness, the sun will rise. In Queensland, this favourite spot with our dear friend and farmer Risto was the first place we went after lockdown. That seems a long time ago with Queensland now having only a handful of cases. We make the drive out here a few times a year, always grateful for how it grounds us. For the cattle and animals out here nothing much changes despite global upheaval. Like us, ...they are ruled by the seasons, but for them that means weather - rain, sun, wind, etc. Not covid, politics, elections, jobs etc. Such a joy to return to life’s basics. . . . #sunrise #sunrise_captures #dalbyqld #dalby #thisisqueensland #visitedplanet #visitedplanetaustralia #visitwesterndowns #westerndowns #seeaustralia #seeaustralia_qld #qldbeautifulonedayperfectthenext #australialovesyou See more

12.01.2022 The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. Marcel Proust . . . Everyone keeps bagging 2020, and while I appreciate the greater issues plaguing us, I also want to say this year has forced me from a routine of constant international travel to appreciating my own backyard more, my friends, family, community, neighbourhood, opportunities etc. I am so grateful to live in this city, in this state and this country. Now, more than ...ever. I mean, look at this city, isn’t she beautiful? Here’s to seeing things with new eyes this year. . . . #brisbaneanyday #brisbanesunset #brisbanecity #abcmyphoto #visitbrisbane #seebrisbane #seebrisbanelikeatourist #thisisqueensland #visitedplanetaustralia #visitedplanet #queenslandtourism #qldbeautifulonedayperfectthenext See more

11.01.2022 The Visited Planet 2021 calendar is headed to the press! 12 images from around the world feature in this compilation with funds again going to @camerasforasia. While I have not left Australia this year, there are still images from a smattering of countries. As a Cameras for Asia program looks very uncertain into next year given the nations I visit are not doing well (bar Fiji), funds from these sales will support the centres I visit in absentia. Thanks for your support. Details will be posted shortly along with more of the photos. Stay tuned. . . . #visitedplanetphotography #visitedplanetcalendar #calendar2021 #visitedplanet #visitedplanetcalendar2021 #nepalmonks #boudhanath #buddhistmonks

10.01.2022 Come on Italy! As you all recall, Italy was one of the first countries badly hit with Covid-19 infections. Unfortunately, they now have rising infection rates again: 10,000 plus yesterday and like a lot of Europe they are going back into restrictions with mandatory mask wearing, limits on gatherings, food service limits etc. Reports from my council have begun again on WhatsApp showing the severity and concern there. As a result of the travel ban for Australians, I have not... returned to Italy this year despite being resident there and having things to take care of. It seemed too much trouble and flights uncertain and costly. But a little bit of my heart always pangs at Italy’s troubles and I fear a troubled winter ahead. Forza Italia, all of Europe and all countries still badly afflicted with Covid. Thoughts and prayers it will improve. . . . #visitedplanet #visitedplanetitaly #amalficoast #italyvilla #villasofitaly #covid19italia #thisisitaly #italytravel See more

08.01.2022 A chance to pause and reflect after a few busy weeks. The Urangan pier is such an incredible experience walking it, running it, paddling by it, fishing on it or gazing from the beach. 868m of it stretch out into the bay but it used to be longer when it was used for transporting cargo from rail to ship. It was decommissioned and is now the domain of leisure seekers. Hervey Bay knows how to turn on the charm with its many piers and jetties. It’s been a work week up here but mor...nings and afternoons have meant only one thing - beach Oh, and the odd coffee . . . #uranganpier #uranganpierherveybay #urangan #herveybay #herveybaylife #thisisqueensland #qldbeaches #qldbeautifulonedayperfectthenext #visitqld #qldtourism #queensland_captures #queenslandtourism #australia_oz #visitedplanet #visitedplanetaustralia #australia_shotz #australiavacation See more

06.01.2022 Spring came with a rush this week we don’t do between seasons too well here in the subtropics and they don’t linger very long. 04.01.2022 Eastern Rosella, Thulimbah, Granite Belt, Queensland. . . . This is one of Australia’s vibrant native birds that are highly intelligent, can mimic words or phrases when trained, whistle a wide repertoire of tunes, are highly sociable and interactive. As a pet they are feisty and sometimes difficult. Best viewed out in the wild where they can be as obnoxious as they wish . I saw numerous pairs of these around Stanthorpe. In the winter, they stood out with their vibrant colour...s amongst the winter bareness of the apple orchards and grapevines. Like many Australian birds, they are almost extraordinary in their extravagant appearance and brash behaviour. 02.01.2022 Horses of the Scenic Rim. . . . The Scenic Rim’s most curious and friendly award goes to its horses. My favourite image is the first as these gorgeous creatures came galloping to meet me in zero degrees, keen to see what I was up to by the side of the road. Although accidental to what I had come to photograph, they were a joy. From Biddabadda to Boyland, Boonah and beyond, here are just some of the characters I met over the winter exploring this region. Make sure you say hell...o to them next time you’re in the area! . . . #visitscenicrim #scenicrim #horses #horsesofinstagram #horsestagram #horsesofinsta #thisisqueensland #tourismqueensland #qldbeautifulonedayperfectthenext #visitedplanetaustralia #visitedplanet #farmsofaustralia #seeaustralia_qld #seeaustralia See more
