20.01.2022 Whitemark Beach : Kelly Blundstone

20.01.2022 Due to the growing risk of coronavirus and the latest Australian Government health warnings restricting large gatherings, Flinders Island Business Incorporated (FIBI) has been forced to cancel the Food & Crayfish Festival that was scheduled for 15-19 April this year. President Michael Buck said for the safety and wellbeing of islanders and visitors FIBI has taken the precaution to cancel this year’s event. It is with a heavy heart that we are cancelling the Food & Cray...fish Festival, Mr Buck said. We are a remote, isolated community with limited health services which are the major reasons for taking this step. We recognise this is extremely disappointing for everyone involved with the Food & Crayfish Festival. We were really looking forward to delivering a fantastic event that was designed to put the spotlight on local food and people. I would like to thank the organisers, local chefs, farmers, producers, tourism operators and residents who threw their support behind the festival and have worked hard to develop a dynamic program of events. We also thank top Australian chefs Karen Martini, Tobie Puttock, Jesse McTavish and Scott Stevenson who were coming to the island to work with the locals and showcase their own spin on local dishes during the festival. Just as importantly, I want thank all the people from Tasmania and the mainland of Australia who have enthusiastically supported the festival by purchasing tickets to events. I want to reassure everyone they will get a full refund for festival tickets which will be processed over the next two weeks. The festival will be back in 2021 bigger and better, we look forward to bringing you another great line-up of lunches, dinners, parties, feasts and gourmet adventures.
