It is believed to have been the longest ocean swimming race in Australia at the time and was given the nickname 'The Big Swim'. 01.01.2022 The Round House is 190 years old this month! Western Australia's oldest public building, it was opened in January 1831 just 18 months after settlement and was built to hold any person convicted of a crime in the settlement. It was used as a gaol up until 1886, after which it became a Police Lock-up until the late 1890s. It has since been used as accommodation for the Water Police, and as a storage facility for Fremantle Ports. ...
