18.01.2022 The Old Gundagai Flour Mill is the only building in the flood area to have survived the Great Flood of 1852. Built in 1849 by John Dillon Morley as the first flour mill in Gundagai. From 1851 the building was operated by Messrs Flood and Hanley. They milled local flour until 1918 The Old Mill was then sold to Messrs Regan and Davis in 1918. It was then converted into a freezing works. A few years later The Adjungbilly Freezing Company purchased the business. During the 1930...s the major activity at the mill was the freezing of rabbits for export. Later the building was sold to W T Ballard & Sons. These men were wool and skin buyers who used the location to store the wool and hides What an amazing old building with some of the greatest history in Gundagai! #unleashyourfreedom#visitgundagai

13.01.2022 The Gundagai Literary Institute was constructed in 1870. It originally was a single story building to which a second story was added in the early 1900's. These Institute's were Australia's first library's and often concentrated on European and British publications. As well as providing some local books, journals and newspapers. The Gundagai Literary Institute was funded by the community. But due to difficulty securing sufficient funding the institute closed in 1932 Find out more about Gundagai’s history by downloading the Cya On The Road App and completing Gundagai’s Heritage Architectural Walk!
