23.01.2022 Council has started scheduling the staged reopening of facilities in accordance with State Government direction. From Tuesday 9 June, Customer Service Centres ...at Colac and Apollo Bay will reopen with a number of restrictions in place such as: - cashless payments preferred - there will be a limit to the number of customers in the centre at any one time - physical distance of 1.5 metres between people must be maintained at all times While Customer Service Centres will reopen, Council encourage people to continue to access online information and payment services via the website. Vulnerable people in the community remain most at risk, so please help any friends or family if they need a hand to access online services to reduce the need to leave home. 17.01.2022 I promise i will get a newsletter out soon but in the meantime it is whale season, the waterfalls are spectacular and the wildlife are enjoying the nightlife so... here are some valuable tips: apart from the sturdy hiking gear pack the binoculars and a good torch. These are mine: the torch is a veritable spotlight and I bought it at Bunnings. The binoculars actually provide a compass bearing and are exceptional quality but you dont have to be that fancy BUT the view from the cottages will justify a very good pair... See more

15.01.2022 Are you heading to the Great Ocean Road this weekend? Parks Victoria is warning tourists that physical distancing measures remain in place at all national parks... this weekend. The authority says if a car park is full, then no more people can visit that site. The 12 Apostles is one of seven sites that remain closed due to concerns over physical distancing.

08.01.2022 Sad news that the Cape Otway Light station will close in 2021.

08.01.2022 As most of Victorias schoolchildren return to learning from home this week we delve into the Cape Otway Lighthouse archives to learn about past schooling in is...olation! State school teachers were assigned to Cape Otway on a years secondment. There being only one teacher here at a time, some would describe themselves as being the Head teacher! They would usually lodge with the keepers; this included the last teacher here; Rob Stewart 1962/3, who initially lodged with Bob & Joan Brack & their children in the Telegraph Station. At times it was difficult for the teachers to be able to switch off & get away from the children. Some resorted to finding alternative accomodation in the spare Quarters; including the one room 1850 Quarters. Arthur Lewis was a teacher here in 1916, he described how he used to climb the Tower to read and study by the kerosene light of the Fresnel lens. . 06.01.2022 So very thrilled to receive this review by email this morning from Dr Kerry P: "Review of Lake Cottage, Glenaire Cottages, Glenaire 19th & 20th June 2020... We stayed in this very private delightful, light, warm and well appointed cottage last weekend for two nights, 19th and 20th June. It sits perched on the top of the world in the Otways, with beautiful views across the Aire Valley over to the southern ocean. The outdoor spa on the deck was a treat and the water hot and steamy. Looking up at the starry night sky was wonderful. Neil and Bo have created a rainforest walk on their property that is long enough to feel like a proper bushwalk, and short enough to do it twice in the weekend!!!! Towering gums and tree ferns in the gullies make this a very special place to stay. A walk down through the paddocks to the Great Ocean Road and beach beyond, as well as the GOW walking trail, is very do-able without even getting in the car!!! Neil and Bo are lovely hosts. Respectful of privacy and very aware of the CoVid requirements in these difficult times. Thank you to both of you for your responsive hospitality and sharing the beauty of your property." We have had some truly lovely guests since being able to welcome people back. We only ask that everyone respects the risks, the rules and takes care to acknowledge the advice of the Chief Medical Officer.

05.01.2022 Today is our 5th day of the great ocean walk. Woke up to this beauty of a sunrise at Ryans Den. Absolutely loving it!
