21.01.2022 The first store at Wee Jasper, New South Wales was built around the 1900s by the Singh brothers. At that time the local population was growing steadily (around 300 in the 1891 census), and the brothers had additional trade from stockmen, drovers, and shearers in the area which made the business profitable. The store was purchased by local Billy Mitchell in 1912, and he owned it for many years. 13.01.2022 Barren Jack Village now known as Burrinjuck Dam was once a thriving city on the banks of the great Murrumbidgee River. Public buildings were constructed above the high water mark, and others were below as a temporary measure. Services included a medical resident, bank, library, hospital, fire brigade, and Burrinjuck Public School which operated part-time with fifteen students in 1907 then full-time up until 1911! 06.01.2022 The first Wee Jasper schoolhouse was a small timber building located on the western side of the river not far from the police residence at Wee Jasper, New South Wales. It was later relocated to higher ground in 1930's due to the 1925 floods. The first class commenced in September 1899 with around 20 students taught by a young teacher named Elizabeth Loughlin received an annual salary of 72 pounds.
