25.01.2022 Apologises for not posting videos for the past 2 days, but I became stuck building one of the characters. I will be back in putting videos again on the progress tomorrow. Its frustrating, but a great learning process.



23.01.2022 Here is an update as to progress. I have been working on client projects which has set me a little behind, but will definitely have this finished over the weekend. I have also worked out a way to speed up the process, which will also help. For those in Oz, have a great long weekend. For the rest, enjoy the weekend.

22.01.2022 Apologises for the late post, but for some reason video was not proceeding to upload from a certain point. I am now starting to create other assets. Was a little lost and decided to go back to the drawing tablet and come up with some random concepts that came into my head. Am now going to continue building these assets and then proceed onto the next one. Focusing on about 5 buildings which I will then randomly place withing mapped area.

22.01.2022 What a difference a day makes. The approach of mapping out all of the sides, helped immensely. Still trying to keep everything polygon based - still making heaps of errors and having to correct these as I move along, but overall happy for a change with invested time versus results.Building 03 needs a bit more work, should have this one finished. Working on the final artwork for the buildings will be interesting :) - need to learn as much as possible about UV mapping and shading. Have a great day, thanks for watching and stay safe. 22.01.2022 5 days to go. Have about 2 assets to complete and all the shading and UV mapping to complete as well. Of course not forgetting the scene layout. Its going to be tight. After creating some of the assets last night, I discovered a few ways to speedup the workflow for future asset builds. This project is getting closer to the end. Next project will be an animated one - in after effects. Have a great day, weekend and stay safe.

21.01.2022 Will add heaps more detail to the whole project - in the last 3 days before submission. I found a tutorial online regarding how to make a chain. The process was working fine until I stuffed some element and couldnt figure out what was the cause. I then decide to create the links manually - that was so tedious and frustrating. I decided to revisit the first option and funny enough I realised the initial error was made when creating the EMPTY object - I must have accidently scaled this. Regardless, winging it at the moment. I will spend one more day on the ship and will then move into creating the other assets - just over 13 days to go. Can I do it? Yes I can :) Thanks for watching - see you tomorrow.

21.01.2022 I cannot believe that it has been a month since I started this journey - goes quick. Unfortunately the video is not that exciting. I needed to add the window frame to the building and I have stressed am no expert at blender, trying to problem solve as I build my assets. Regardless, it was another good process of learning. I will be finishing off the door section of this building and move onto something new, before coming back to work on building 2 and 3. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching.



21.01.2022 Still working on the animation, but it is a slow burn. I will have this completed over the weekend. I thought I would be more excited about putting this one together, but my heart is more into drawing - on both digital and paper and 3D modelling and animation in Blender. Next Monday have another incompleted drawing piece that I will work on - hopefully, this one should be pretty cool.

20.01.2022 Getting closer to the end. This has been an eye opening course and keeps opening my eyes to new ways of doing things. This week the smaller details took most of my time. Curved surfaces and fixing the vertices and polygons, was a headache. I managed to resolve a lot of issues, but on some, I experimented and experimented trying to work out how to have clean topology. On some cases, I had to improvise and this led to a result I was okay with. Getting closer to the shading and decals about 20 lessons left. Once again, this week was a slow burn because I kept revisitng the toplogy. It was nice to add the emmisive shader and start to see the beginning of life in my Mech Droid.

19.01.2022 After doing the first part of the SCI-FI Hard Ops Crate course, I want to make sure I retain the knowledge learned. Starting to put together this robot head - not sure if I will work on the rest of the body, but will add more detail over the week.

18.01.2022 Okay so we are getting somewhere. Still no where near as complete, but making progress. Still have another 2 buildings to create. Aim to finish these withiin the next two days and then work on the remaining assets. Then I will fix the uvmaps and work on the remaining lighting, particles and atomsphere for the final render. 8 days to go - I will make this work.

16.01.2022 The final day is nigh! Only have lighting and detail to do tomorrow and that should complete this piece. Unfortunately had a glitch with the video capture software and lost a small portion where I overlaid a gradient to enhance the look and feel. The final piece of the video shows why this flower is so friggin evil. Thanks for watching, come back tomorrow for the final piece. 16.01.2022 From tomorrow the creative journal videos are coming back. New project. Will finalise the last motion video project one once I have purchased my new graphics card :)

15.01.2022 As you will see like with my drawings, constantly refining the vision for this final piece. Will be adding more detail today and will start to move towards creating the other assets. Its beginning to take shape, and once I add all the textures, should add some life to the model. Thanks for watching as always, see you tomorrow.

15.01.2022 Wednesdays will always be my toughest opportunity to work on my piece as I have Business Networking meetings from 6:30 - regardless, I will stay committed to the process and do what I can. 15.01.2022 Wow, the thorns and vines took me a while to create. I am really happy with the direction this is now going. This piece will take a little longer, but so looking forward to that end result. Put a few extra hours into this piece. Still have the other side to do - and then still a lot of detail to be added to the rest of the piece. Thanks for being part of the journey. If you know of any new bands out there who want their get music promoted - get them to send me some tracks. I will be happy to use the music if it fits the creative piece I am working on at the time. 14.01.2022 I have been doing the #Blenderbros tutorials for about a month now and it is really helping me discover more about the workflow and fixing issues as they happen. I am close to half way of the first course and although it doesn't seem like a lot has been updated from the last version, it is quite considerable, with the details. My version is a little differents to Josh's model which also gave me complications, but this is where I have grown. Looking forward to adding more detail and getting to the end of this course to add the materials and enhance the final look.

13.01.2022 It's been a slow burn but really digging this course. Have learnt so much and constantly keep refining the workflow and process. Since the last progress I have added more details as per Josh's model tutorial. Looking forward to enhancing the product. I picked up on a few shading issues which I will work on fixing.

13.01.2022 I captured the wrong screen, so this video is so quick - blink and you will miss it. It basically shows you a video and then the start of creative art addition with Paint and Stick. Its all experimental, but for the next 5-7 days want to see what manifests and the final results. Its a tedious process.. 30 seconds worth of footage (25 frames per second ) - that makes 750 Frames - and thats just for 1 layer. Multiply that by about 10 - 20 layers and you can see - there is a fair amount of work involved. Will have the progress update tomorrow for you to view. Till then, stay safe and enjoy life.

12.01.2022 Nothing too exciting about this video, but it gives you an insight as to the process for the ideas I have and the assets I need to create. It should be an interesting project, I wont be able to give away the final piece until it is submitted and judged, so I will try and work on sections without the final reveal and have to share this with you all once the competition allows me to. Not the best at Blender, still a learning in progress tool that I am exploring, but getting o...ut of my comfort zone and doing these comps, will help me gain more knowledge and understanding. 12.01.2022 Arrrrgggghhhhh - pulling my hair out with some of the basics. I have decided to make it easier for me to model building 3 - which mean creating all of the sides in illustrator. This will help immensely with the process of putting this building together. In future, definitely going to go down this path, as I have wasted time, trying to create assets without direction. 12.01.2022 It begins! I am enjoying the learnings of Blender, but it definitely challenges me. I know that there is a quicker way to create the models but I guess, to discover the quicker way, I have to go through this process of discovering the program to learn the simplier outcome. Definitely discovered some new ways of doing things - also focused on the topology and keeping this as close to quads as I can. 11.01.2022 Starting to get a vision for the final piece. The final piece will be different from what you see now, but I have to build and position assets to see it progress. I will finish Building 1 tomorrow - just going to add the door - I now know where I wasted time and it should be a quick process, start on building 2 as we want a mix of the building elements so it doesnt look repetitive. Will have to revisit a few of the tutorials from CG Boost. Have a great day and see you tomorrow.

11.01.2022 I worked on the Ant today and also was going to do more with the leaves. I took a different direction as the plant is meant to be BAD ASS - I feel if it has a poisonous edge, not only will it pop, but also make the pieces story a little more interesting. Not sure if I will stick with the yellow, but its a starting point.

10.01.2022 I have added several features to the Mech Droid as per the Blender Bros Hard Ops Course - https://gumroad.com/a/143651955/VbKpb. I am about 75% through the course and haven't stopped learning. I didn't put the transition in this one, as you can see these in my previous videos. The course has really helped me have a better understanding with the topology, even if it does break the rules with loads of NGONS, but that's okay to get your mindset into the course and have a good understanding of creating something visually gratifying. Learning how to use the HardOPs, Boxcutter and MeshMachine Tools, is such a time save which will help with the workflow. Till next week with the next update, I'll keep creating.

10.01.2022 I have decided that I will cut the video to 20 seconds for the final render. Usually animations that I have done in the past are all done with 3rd party programs such as Duix where all of the the elements are parented. I am enjoying this process where I am randomly creating as I go. I should have the wings done by tomorrow and will then work on the feet. Still have heaps to do, the wall and even the floor will have many more elements - I will add some glitches and particles to the final render - still about 6 days away from that.

10.01.2022 One more day to go. Hoping to finish the steampunk guy. The final version will be totally different from what I envisioned, but thats okay. I have gained a lot from this process and looking forward to building from this point moving forward. Not sure what I will complete or submit tomorrow, but regardless, its been frustrating but fun at the same time.

10.01.2022 So glad that I am using the Blender and Catcus image as reference as this is helping me with the lighting. The piece is coming along nicely. 10.01.2022 Thanks for being part of this journey. Its been fun. The final piece differed greatly from my final vision, but at the end of the day, it was a great learning experience. 08.01.2022 Close to finalising Part 1 of the Hard Surface Blender SCI-FI Crate tutorial. Still need to work on lighting.

08.01.2022 I have a few hours to go. Finish the robot, setup the scene and effects and then submit the entry. The comp really helped me to discover so many new areas of modelling and blender. I recommend this to every blender user to get out of their comfort zone and keep discovering ways to develop your craft. The process has helped me realise that I was overly ambitious and for future comps, to go smaller do more planning and preparation. Regardless, what a fun learning process. Last video on this one tomorrow and then a decision to make, animation or bring another past drawing to life?

07.01.2022 Been a little quiet as I have been quite busy with client work and working on morning tutorials in Blender. Currently working on a sci-fi corridor from Vaughan Ling. Quite enjoying building the model and discovering different methods of using blender via his Heavy Poly Script. Ill keep posting updates as the piece progresses.

07.01.2022 Okay, so after a months hiatus I am going to be posting videos on a regular basis again. During the time away, I have been a immersing myself in learning a lot of tutorials to build up my blender skills. I am looking forward to working on this project and seeing where it ends up. This video is basically just getting ideas and inspiration from the web and my workflow build. See you tomorrow with the first part of the creation process.

06.01.2022 Added all of the poisonous spots and had to redo each petal. I think in future I will take a moment to work out the sections of the piece that need to be in the background, middle and foreground - this will save me time in not having to redo certain sections. 06.01.2022 I'm on the home stretch. Still have a lot of work to do with the shading, decals, and additional kitops, but liking the direction taking place. This has been a really intuitive and increased knowledge course of not only the Hardops and Boxcutter tools but Blender in general. Should be finished over the weekend.

06.01.2022 It was a pretty good day for asset creation. The quicker all assets are completed the quicker I can UV map and add the textures, materials and shading. The last asset of the samurai or ninja will be the most complicated. At this point, its been fun - no frustration for a change :) Will keep working on the Samurai Dojo and show the progress tomorrow. 03.01.2022 Hi Guys, I am going to make the videos smaller on days where not much has happened. I feel like I have taken 2 steps backwards, but at the sametime discovering new ways of doing things. Ill be working on building 2 as now I have an understand of what needs to happen to make it similar to the photoshop drawing. Till tomorrow. Have a great start to the week.

01.01.2022 Its finished - though there is always more that can be done. I am pretty happy with the process that took place. I feel that the lighting could have been much more enhanced, but we will revisit EVIL FLOWER down the track. I have another idea for this character - actually several.
