15.01.2022 Did you know Speech Pathologists and OT’s often work closely together to achieve a larger goal It is common across our paediatric caseload to see developmental delays across a number of areas. One common multidisciplinary area is in learning. Speech Pathologists assist with increasing literacy skills (reading, spelling, comprehension) whilst Occupational Therapists assist with the motor function of handwriting as well as sitting and attending or regulating a child’s emotio...nal / sensory system ready for learning. In targeting slightly different areas of a child’s development the best outcome can be achieved. A child may see OT and Speech Pathology separately, or in some cases it could be best to see both together. One way to work towards the common learning goal is to get a bit creative with resources. You can create a child/therapy fishing rod, use it to pick out letters (fish), identify the sound and name and then use the rod to air write the letter before using the pencil.

Thank you

14.01.2022 Hi All, its time to introduce one of our many Occupational Therapy equipments! This is not just a toy bee, but a massager as well. OT uses this kind of massager when working with children with sensory aversions. This may mean they have specific preferences and dislikes for various senses such as touching and hearing. Try to put the massager on different part of the child's body (e.g. hand, arm, shoulder, back, head) to give them sensory stimulation to enrich their sensory die...t! When a child's sensory diet is full, they may find it easier to stay focused and control their emotions!
