25.01.2022 A smoothie that isn't green! (But it does have green stuff in it!) Can you guess what it is?... Blueberries, of course, for the colour. But also lemon coriander and parsley green apple coconut water and chia seeds, with greens powder and a little coconut oil Coriander and parsley are added to this little gem for their metal detoxing ability. Most of us will have some level of metal toxicity in our bodies, just from going about your daily life - pollution, your cooking equipment, products you use daily, even your food and water. There's not a lot that can pull them out of your organs so it accumulates over time, which is not a good thing But herbs like coriander can help bind to metal ions and draw them out of your body! Incredible. It's also a major antioxidant Don't like coriander? Don't worry! You can hide it in a smoothie pretty easily
25.01.2022 Cleanse: Day 7 - Last day! Up early to teach yoga today, so I've made my last green juice of the cleanse. I was out of cucumber though, so this one has extra celery instead, along with kale, green apple and lime. It's a stormy day in Perth, so I'm looking forward to spending the day studying, and enjoying the comfort of being indoors.... How's your day looking?

23.01.2022 This made me laugh, I had to share!
22.01.2022 Why did I become a vegan? Back in January 2012, my housemate and I decided to do a 2-week cleanse. No alcohol, processed food, dairy, meat (for her - I was already vegetarian at this point), sweets, chocolate... just clean eating of fruit, veg, legumes and grains in their natural form. I thought I was going to really, really miss dairy. I loved cheese and yoghurt. I drank chocolate milk straight out of the carton! ... But two weeks later I felt AMAZING! I decided, why stop now? Why not just eat this way forever? So, I did! Since 2012, it's become a lot easier to be vegan. There's vegan cheese and yoghurt now, which I enjoy every now and then I make my own chocolate, and buy it occasionally. And, I still feel as good as I did after that first two weeks, over eight years ago And in that eight years I've been studying nutrition almost non-stop! So far it's only solidified my love for the plant-based lifestyle even more Are you plant-based? Or wanting to know more about it? Ask me anything you like in the comments below! ( Pai, Thailand, 2019)
20.01.2022 Today was my first day of Yin Yoga Teacher Training, at my beloved studio Spanda Yoga School I, without a doubt, need more yin in my life. In both the literal sense (yin yoga), and the philosophical sense (less doing, more being - as opposed to yang) Both are equally important. It's all about balance!... Can you relate?

19.01.2022 Dinner At the end of my third day of cleansing, I was feeling quite hungry so I ate my dinner before I even remembered to take a photo! So instead, I've attached the recipe. ... Spiced cauliflower soup, with garam masala and cayenne pepper, and that amazing veggie detox broth I posted on Monday as the base. It was delicious! Even if you're not doing a cleanse, definitely give this soup a go. Where am I getting my cleanse program from? The book 'Juices, Smoothies & Soups with Medicinal Powers', from Food Matters. I really recommend it! Not only for the great recipes, but all the insights as to why you should cleanse, and why the certain foods have been chosen
19.01.2022 Cleanse: Day 6 It's the second-to-last day on my cleanse, and a good time to check in and see how it's going! Days 1-4 I felt really good. I went to the gym, taught and practised yoga, and my energy was through the roof! I'm also studying at the moment, and I felt really focused mentally, which is always a great thing for a uni student My sleep was great too.... Though I must admit, in the afternoons I was a little hungry, around that usual 3-4pm time. It's safe to say I was hanging out for dinner! Day 5 (yesterday) it was a bit different. Perhaps because the morning was incredibly busy, so by the afternoon I was feeling a bit burnt out and my mood was really low. I felt ready to crawl into a cave and hibernate. But, I wasn't quite as hungry, and my pumpkin soup dinner filled me right up! So I headed to bed full and satisfied. Today is day 6, and I'm happy to say my mood is much lighter than yesterday! It's been a bit of a rollercoaster the last couple of days, so I'm interested to see how these last two days of the cleanse go.... watch this space!
18.01.2022 Create time for yourself to move, breathe, and just be In a world where there is so much going on, sometimes the best thing you can do is let yourself be still and tune it all out Classes with me this week: Spanda Yoga School:... Tuesday, 7am Thursday, 6pm ( credit: Spanda) Momentum Coaching & Yoga: Tuesday, 6pm (Beginner's course) Wednesday, 5.30pm Sunday, 9am
18.01.2022 My first meal post-cleanse I wanted to ease into solid food again, so tonight I chose a roast sweet potato and quinoa salad for dinner. The only word to describe it is, delicious My tastebuds had a serious party with this! They've obviously been a little deprived recently ... How did I feel today Happy! I was feeling really accomplished completing the whole seven days, and really excited to eat something solid. So much joy! Energised! I taught yoga this morning, and attended a class this afternoon, and my energy was off the charts Light! You know that feeling after a big meal and you get all heavy and sluggish? I was the opposite! Motivated! I don't want to ruin my progress, so I'm recommitted to my healthy eating, regular juicing, and healthy lifestyle Check it again tomorrow for my cleansing tips!
15.01.2022 Cleanse: Day 4 It's official - this is the longest I've gone without eating solid food! And I'm feeling pretty good Today I started with a ginger lemon detox drink:... 1/2 inch ginger root (grate and squeeze the juice into your drink) 1/2 lemon juiced tbsp of raw honey (can omit if you're vegan or don't want the sugar) warm filtered water. Why these ingredients? Ginger supports your digestion, soothes your stomach, and reduces inflammation. Lemon encourages production of bile, and is high in vitamin C, plus potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Raw honey is high in antioxidants, is antibacterial and antifungal, a phytonutrient powerhouse, and helps digestion. It's actually a great way to start the day, regardless of if you're doing a cleanse or not. And really good if you've got a sore throat, a cough, or a cold! Give it a try!
14.01.2022 We are all connected
14.01.2022 Spiced cauliflower soup I posted the recipe the other night, and here it is! It may look bland, but I can assure you, it packs a serious flavour punch The garam masala and cayenne pepper, plus the veggie broth base, mean it's anything but bland.... Horrified by my coriander garnish? Never fear! It's totally optional... I just happen to love it
13.01.2022 This can be a hard concept to grasp. We spend so much time in our heads, replaying old memories, or imagining future events. But really, all that exists is right now, this moment Yes, you can look to old memories for lessons, and imagine future events for better planning. But it's what you do right now that matters most
12.01.2022 Six years after finishing my first yoga teacher training, I've just finished my third! Officially a Yin Yoga Teacher And feeling pretty chuffed, if I do say so myself (Thanks Ava! Love you Spanda Yoga School)
12.01.2022 Last day of the cleanse, second-to-last smoothie! This is my last heavy metal detox smoothie, with a little avocado added for more sustenance One of the harder things I've found, because I'm doing this during winter, is that I feel a bit cold during the day when all I'm ingesting is cold food. And I'm one of those people who feels the cold regardless ... I've found though that all the good fats - the avocado, coconut oil, occasional nut butter - have kept me feeling fuller for longer, and a little less cold. And I've had a bunch of herbals teas to keep me warm, including Pukka Herbs Three Ginger made with organic galangal, liquorice and turmeric for extra internal heat
12.01.2022 Harvard Medical School have found that yoga improves a lot more than just flexibility and strength It also cultivates: Better body image More mindful eating and weight control... Heart benefits (lowers blood pressure) Overall fitness (tones the heart and lungs) Have you found any of this in your own practice?
10.01.2022 Creamy detox latte This delicious creation is probably my most favourite recipe in the entire cleanse You basically make a detox tea and let it steep, then blend it with plant-based milk, coconut oil, a date, protein powder, and cinnamon. ... Omg, it is so divine!
09.01.2022 Snack time! Who loves bliss balls? These are my favourite snacks to make - quick, healthy, and chocolatey! All you need is: 2 cups of pitted dates, 1 cup almond meal, 1 cup walnuts, 2 tbsp almond milk, 2 tbsp melted coconut oil, cacao nibs, about 1/2 cup cacao powder, and blend in the food processor ... Then roll into balls, and then through desiccated coconut. Absolutely delicious!
08.01.2022 Look at all these beautiful little blueberry babies! I'm so excited to see my blueberry plant sprouting some fruit for me Do you grow your own food? What's growing in your garden at the moment?
07.01.2022 What are you feeding your mind? Is it helping you, or holding you back? And if it's holding you back, what can you do to make a positive change?
06.01.2022 This month marks six years since I became a yoga teacher! Isn't it crazy how quickly time passes?!? In this photo (taken in Bali, Nov 2014), I was excited and nervous about taking the leap into teaching something that I loved so much, and hoped that I would be able to inspire students the same way that I had been inspired by my past teachers. Fast forward six years and I've taught well over 1500 hours of classes and hundreds of students, completed many more hours of tr...aining in multiple countries, made a bunch of great friends, become part of some beautiful communities, and (hopefully) inspired a few people along the way! I absolutely love that I get to do this work, it has blessed my life in more ways than I can count. If there's something that you want to do but you're scared or too nervous to take the plunge - feel the fear and do it anyway! The nerves won't last long, and the rewards of doing something you truly love will last a lifetime
06.01.2022 Dr. Wayne W. Dyer once said "change the way you look at things and the things you look at change A situation will always be as it is, whether you're for it or against it. The only thing you can control is your attitude towards the situation. When we resist and fight, we often just create more suffering for ourselves. But when we accept (this doesn't mean surrender or give up), we're able to take whatever positive steps are required next to move on, plan for, or cope wi...th what's happening. Things are tough right now, but I encourage you to find the good. There is so much good out there
05.01.2022 We all get stressed sometimes. This year is particularly stressful for many of us When you can't control what's happening around you, you can always find tools to help you cope and control what's happening inside of you This is a helpful list from Food Matters to give you some ideas of tools to use ... I'm (usually) able to implement them all, and I can honestly say they help Take a look
03.01.2022 Why cleanse Over time, things like unhealthy food, toxins in your environment, stress, alcohol, and caffeine run your body down. And like we occasionally need a holiday so does your digestive system! A cleanse helps you to recharge, helps your organs that are constantly detoxifying your body (like your liver, skin, lungs, colon and kidneys) to do their job better, and brings your body back into balance.... You can expect to feel more energy less cravings, sleep better, better moods, increased metabolism, lose some weight, clear skin, a stronger immunity, better toilet schedule and so much more! Why am I doing one? Because I noticed I was feeling sluggish, my energy was down, I was eating heavier meals over winter, and I was craving foods I don't normally eat a lot. I felt I needed a reset. Are you curious to find out more? Ask me any questions you like in the comments below, or dm me if you want a bit more privacy
03.01.2022 Cleansing Tips Are you thinking of doing a cleanse? Awesome!! Depending on your usual lifestyle, it's worth doing one at least once a year - just like we take holidays from our jobs, it's beneficial to let your digestive system take a holiday too So here's my top tips to set yourself up for cleansing success!... Follow a structured program, created by a professional. Don't just wing it - you want to make sure you're getting the correct nutrients, and doing it in a safe and healthy way. I used a program by Food Matters. Get completely organised the day before you plan to start. Buy all your produce and powders, and cook your veggie broth. Then when you wake up on day 1, you're ready to go - no stress! Read over your daily food intake in the morning so you know what you're in for, and you can roughly plan when you'll be having each juice/smoothie (equal time between = less hunger ) Got an early start? Make your morning juice or smoothie the night before, store in an airtight container in the fridge, and save yourself time (and stress!). Tell people you're doing it! It makes you more accountable, and more likely to succeed. It'll also give you a sense of pride when you can brag about your accomplishment! Plan for some downtime during the week. Don't do a cleanse when you know you have a hectic week ahead - your body needs time to adjust, rest, heal, and reset, so a bit of quiet time is needed. Stick to less strenuous exercise for the week - walks, yoga, leisurely bike rides Let your body focus on detoxing, and not on exercise recovery. And finally, go into a cleanse with an intention of love You love your body, so you want to look after it and give it a break. This should be a positive and nourishing experience! This isn't about starving or punishing yourself, and your body will feel the difference. Attitude is key. Let me know any questions you have in the comments below (Pic: Lucky Bay, Esperance WA )
03.01.2022 The last (soup) supper! Here we have it, my final meal of the 7-day cleanse. I can't quite believe I made it! And yet, it feels like it's gone really fast, which is amazing. This green goddess is zucchini, broccoli, green beans, kale, coriander, and parsley, with a little salt and pepper, in the last of the veggie broth base. It was warm, comforting, and quite delicious ... Tomorrow I'm going to share a post on how the last seven days have been for me, and a few tips for you if you're wanting to try a cleanse at home too. But for now, I'm going to dream about what I'll be eating tomorrow!!
02.01.2022 Happy International Dog Day! From my fur babies (Taane and Chaser) to yours!
02.01.2022 Cleanse: Day 5 It was an early rise and a busy morning, so I made sure everything was organised last night: I made my morning green juice after dinner, and stored it in the fridge in the airtight Nutribullet flask. Good for 12-24 hours! ... I made my breakfast smoothie early this morning, stored it in the same flask after having my juice, then took it to work and stored it in the fridge, ready to go. Now I'm home and can make my lunch smoothie when I'm ready! Cleansing when you're busy can be a challenge, but with a little organisation you can still make it happen without the stress If you don't have a flask, an airtight glass jar or bottle works just as well - as long as it's sealed and kept cool to keep the nutrients fresh!
02.01.2022 Sundays are for self-care After a mammoth two uni assignments and a test due today I'm treating myself to a cup of Pukka Herbs Love tea and Vego chocolate (don't let the name fool you - it's divine!) How have you been spending your day?
02.01.2022 Ginger and lemongrass pumpkin soup Soup is the perfect meal for winter. Especially one that warms you up not just from it's warmth, but also from it's spiciness This beautiful bowl is pumpkin, coconut milk, ginger, lemongrass, cumin, cayenne pepper, ground coriander, with a veggie broth base. ... And it is so welcome on this cold Perth night
01.01.2022 This is awesome! It's so great to see people choosing to naturally boost their immunity through their diets Oranges and kiwifruit are loaded with vitamin C and make a great choice! But don't forget there's heaps of veg that's also high in vitamin C, some even more so than fruit ... Get into the red capsicum broccoli sweet potato leafy greens, especially spinach and kale lemons and limes and berries like blueberries and acai berry! Your body will thank you
01.01.2022 A really good (short!) video on the benefits of yoga... with a little science thrown in Give it a watch!
