We bring you back to basics as we go through the correct techniques for a variety of exercises to help you maximise your workout and avoid injury. This class is considered a light to moderate workout and perfect for members new to exercise in a gym.

22.01.2022 WELCOME TO THE TEAM, ADRIAN! Adrian is the newest team member to join the VHC family! Here’s some fun facts about Adrian so you can get to know him a little better ... Adrian grew up in SA where he loved playing local footy. About 7 years ago, he started getting serious about fitness and weightlifting and this is when it became not just a passion but a career. He’s now qualified with a Cert 3 in fitness (and is also a Level 1 boxing coach!) and has had 2 years of experience running HIIT and boxing classes! He’s now studying his Certificate 4 in fitness in addition to being a dedicated husband and father of two teenage children and is either working out or renovating his house in his downtime. PS. He’s also been a vegan for the past 3 years so hit him up for some nutritional advice! Adrian is now instructing both of our HIIT squad classes and our Thursday Box Away class so make sure you sign up to these for his fun-loving yet motivational group fitness sessions!

21.01.2022 Did you know...? Doing short bursts of intense exercise with short recovery breaks in between can be as effective, perhaps more so, than endurance exercises. Researchers from Canada's McMaster University found that men who cycled at a high intensity for 60 seconds, then rested for up to 75 seconds for 8 to 12 minutes in all, greatly improved their muscle capacity. ... You could run fast for half an hour or walk slowly for 90 minutes on the treadmill and you'll burn about the same calories. So it's up to you, based on your preference and schedule. As you are probably all aware by now, SA Government updates have today been revised with the announcement that gyms will be allowed to reopen from midnight tonight (Saturday 21st November). This is fantastic news, not only for Vitality Health Club and our lovely members but for the whole of South Australia! What this means:... 24 hour access will be reinstated from midnight Saturday night. Direct Debit payments will resume from Tuesday 24th November Group fitness classes will resume from the evening of Monday 23rd November WE KNOW YOU ARE AS EXCITED AS WE ARE - SO WE WILL SEE YOU IN THE GYM!

18.01.2022 The "Return to Vitality" challenge is in full swing! Our Week 2 competition challenged members to complete 1km on the rower! Rowing machines provide a stellar upper-body workout. ... Rowers exercise the rhomboids in the shoulders, trapezii in the upper back, and lats in the lower back. 16.01.2022 VITALITY HEALTH CLUB POST COVID-19 Based on the newly released information from the SA government, on Friday the 21st August 2020, a COVID-safety Marshal is now required on our premises at all times. A COVID-safety Marshal is responsible for assisting and monitoring social distancing and to ensure that members and guests are following the required health & safety processes in line with the current restrictions. In the case of 24/7 businesses, we are only required to have... a Marshal present during busy times. Based on advice received from the SA government, our staffed hours cover all busiest times in the gym and all team members have completed the training and are working together to keep us all safe. The following measures have also been put in place to ensure you stay safe when re-starting at Vitality. Finger print entry has been removed, replaced with a contactless fob entry method. We require you to use hand sanitiser upon arrival (it is available at our front counter). Please use the disinfectant wipes provided throughout the gym to wipe over equipment after use. Staff will be increasing the daily cleaning schedule. During phase 3 we will be limited to 1 person per 2m2 which means some equipment will be temporarily out of use. We ask for your co-operation as we work through this next phase and look forward to working together to ensure the easing of all restrictions as quickly as possible! 14.01.2022 Pause, breathe, reflect. In the words of Peter Malinauskas, "This is going to be a tough period - none of us have confronted anything like this before. But all of us in South Australia have an obligation to show the nation that we can tackle this challenge with grit and kindness in the same measure". Our best advice? Take some slow breaths.... In through your nose, and slowly out through your mouth. Slow breathing is one of the best ways to lower stress, because it signals to your brain to relax your body. Notice how you are feeling and what you are thinking, without judgment. Instead of responding or reacting to those thoughts or feelings, note them, and then let them go.

11.01.2022 Workout pulled from the archives (yes we are open). Let’s see how those legs and abs feel after this great sweat sesh! Tag your workout partner! 3 SETS, 15 REPS... Split Squat: Use a chair for this exercise. Extend one leg backwards onto a chair. Squat down and back up again. Perform 15reps on each leg. Jump Squats: Perform a normal squat, then on your up phase take a jump then squat back down again. Great exercise to increase heart rate! Standing Calf Raises: Find a ledge or a step. Hang your heels off of the edge, stand on your tippy toes then come all the way down. Hold something heavy for the next level! Walking Lunges: Find some space, outside or down a hall, take a large step and then lunge down. Hip Thrusts: Lay on your back, feet near your bum (bent legs). Push up with your heels and squeeze your glutes. Put something heavy on your hips to make things harder! Russian Twists: On a mat, raise your legs level with your hips and contract your core. Russian Twists: Sitting down on a mat, grab some weight and twist your entire torso left to right. This is a great exercise to develop your ab lines. Plank: Everyone knows how great this exercise is for your core! Just keep a straight posture!

Brad is passionate about all things health and fitness but he specialises in group fitness, circuit training and athlete development. ... He’s played several sports in the past but currently plays both football and cricket! When not studying for his Cert III in fitness, he loves chasing his Whippet pup around the park. 08.01.2022 HOW TO SQUAT PROPERLY... Time and time again, we see the squat carried out without the correct form. It won't take long to learn the right technique and we've listed some of our pointers below to help you NAIL the squat! Stand with your feet slightly wider than your hips.... Your toes should be pointed slightly outward about 5 to 20 degrees outward (the wider your stance, the more you’ll want to rotate your feet outward). Look straight ahead and pick a spot on the wall in front of you. Look at this spot the entire time you squat, not looking down at the floor or up at the ceiling. See more

Remember to use a towel and drink plenty of water during your workout! 1 set, 60 seconds, 3 laps. ... Figure 8: Set out two markers, Go toe to toe in a figure 8 shape. Stay on your toes! Burpee Lateral Hop: Set a marker, do one burpee on one side, then jump over your marker and do another burpee! High Knees: Sprinting on the spot, keep your knees up. Hold your hands near your hips for an aimed. Super Squats: Perform a normal squat, then a jump squat. Crawl Outs, Frog Jump: Start by standing up, keeping your legs straight crawl out with your hands, then jump and meet both feet together. Partial Mountian Climbers: Think of it as a frog jump. Jump both feet to meet your hands, then lift both hands off of the ground. Leg Hold: Laying on your back, lift your legs straight up 6 inches off of the ground and hold! Great finisher for abs. But in the spirit of Christmas, we would love for Vitality members to get together to celebrate the positives that have come out of this year at a Christmas morning tea. WHEN? 06.01.2022 Our hearts dropped yesterday with the news report of a cluster of COVID-19 in the Parafield area. In response to a cluster of community spread, the next action we see will be the closure of public gathering places which includes gyms. In accordance with the SA Government directions around COVID-19, Vitality Health Club will be closed from midnight 16/11 for a period of two weeks, planning to reopen on December 1 if all goes well. During this time, your gym memberships and p...ayments will be suspended. If you are paid in advance, your gym membership will be extended for the same period as shutdown. During the last COVID-19 closure period earlier this year, we created Virtual Vitality. This is a collection of pre-recorded work outs to help see us all through the lock down period. We now invite all of our members to access Virtual Vitality free of charge to ensure that you keep yourselves in the best possible health during the closure period. Instructions on how to do this will have been emailed to you (get in touch if you didn't receive this!) We are still receiving updates regarding the government directives for this situation but in the meantime, if you are struggling with some of the changes in our community please log on to http://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au for the latest information and find our recommendations below on how to work through these times of uncertainty.
