24.01.2022 I love Autumn. Coming from England, the cold has never bothered me too much and I actually love getting rugged up to go out, or cuddling by the fire to stay warm. But dressing a bub for the cold, wet weather is all new! So I’m in search of a waterproof jacket for the little man... where do you shop for your kid’s winter clothes?

22.01.2022 When I became a mumma to baby Jasper, we discovered he had some digestive trouble and I contemplated eliminating dairy to see if my breastmilk was the culprit. I’d ditched dairy many times before to address different health issues and reduce inflammation so I knew where to start. But it occurred to me that going dairy-free can be a bit tricky if you’re brand new to it. Yes, you can buy vegan and DF foods more easily these days, but have you stopped to look what’s actually IN them? While you’ll often find them in the health food aisle, it turns out they’re not so healthy. So I decided to share all the tips I’ve learned along the way to help make ditching dairy more manageable, delicious and healthy... without feeling like you’re missing out. So you can actually enjoy being moo juice free! Link below...

14.01.2022 As the cooler months approach I’m saying goodbye to salads and smoothies and embracing more warming foods like soups, curries and stews. And I have a feeling my first winter in the hills is going to be a very cold one! Today’s lunch is a late one as I sit down to enjoy freshly made tomato soup while Jasper naps. I never used to appreciate the joy of an interrupted lunch until I had a baby! Any Thermomix in Australia owners out there... if you haven’t tried the soup from the TM31 Everyday Cookbook you must! Takes just 11 minutes to cook and it’s amaaaaazing AND it makes a great pasta sauce too

08.01.2022 The fourth trimester: the three months after your baby is first born are just as important, if not more than the nine months before. It’s a time in which you recover from birth, your baby unfurls slowly into the world of bright lights and sounds, and together you devote yourself to forging your relationship outside the womb. It is a time of amazing intensity and massive adjustment. Your body transforms - again - and your heart throbs with more feelings than you ever knew pos...sible. Your internal rhythms ping-pong as days and nights merge. Your stamina and serenity get tested like never before. Your connections to the world you knew before loosen, or even become undone, and your sense of who you are begins to change and morph. When a baby is born, so is a mother. And THIS is why I feel called to work with new mothers. To hold them, support them, nourish and nurture them through what I have found to be the biggest transition of my life. I can’t wait to share more about my Postpartum Doula training and Vitality Kitchen’s new services with you.... 03.01.2022 Almost four months ago I became a mother. The moment I went into labour my whole world was forever changed and I got to see what my body and mind were truly capable of. I’ve been cracked wide open and pushed to edges I didn’t know existed. I’ve felt pain, love, challenge, strength, overwhelm, pride, frustration and pure joy in equal measures and sometimes all at once. It’s a strange thing to be so in love with the tiny little human you’ve made and birthed into the world, and... yet to feel so depressed and anxious and helpless at times, to mourn the woman you were before. Some days I’ve wondered how I will keep going, and then I look at what I created and remind myself that it is all worth it. That I grew him and birthed him and that I CAN do it. I think that being a mother can be such a contradiction: the biggest, hardest yet most beautiful rollercoaster ever. And it’s this experience, that has inspired me to train as a Postpartum Doula, to support, nurture, hold and nourish women just like me, as they themselves are birthed into this world as a mother. So this Mother’s Day, it’s not about flowers and chocolates and material things (although these can be nice). No, I see it as a day to celebrate who we are and the strength it takes to do what we do. Even when it’s really fucking hard. So to all you mummas our there - I see you. I acknowledge you for showing up every day, doing your very best, digging deep, often sacrificing yourself and your own needs. May you feel like the incredible mother that you are, every day of the year. Much love, Kirsty xx. #newbornmother #PND #postnatalanxiety #keepingitreal #aintnohoodlikemotherhood #postpartumdoula #fourthtrimester #mealsformummas #comingsoon Bree Downes - Birth Support & Photography
