ASIC has also not been able to use its powers to disqualify those directors who have been misusing the safety net.



20.01.2022 The Australian Taxation Office has issued an urgent warning for a scam being emailed around the country containing convincing myGov branding. The fake email says the recipient is owed money in taxes and directs the reader to fill out an application form. Do not click anywhere in the email because the fake form will steal the receivers personal information, the tax office warns. Please always double check with your tax agent and or ATO before being victim of the scam.

15.01.2022 Federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg passed on the 2019-20 Federal budget on 2 April, stating that the budget is back in the black declaring a surplus of $7.1 billion this year, with increasing trend in the forecasted budget surpluses in the subsequent years. Some of the tax and superannuation highlights are laid out below: > The personal income tax (PIT) rates and thresholds, the ... low and middle-income tax offset (LMITO) and the low- income tax offset (LITO) will be changed to further lower taxes. > The Medicare levy low-income thresholds for singles, family, seniors and pensioners will be increased from 2018/19 income year. > ABN holders will be required to lodge their income tax return from 1 July 2021 and confirm the accuracy of their details on the Australian Business Register annually from 1 July 2022 to retain their ABN status. > SuperStream will be expanded to include the transfer of information and money between employers, superannuation funds and the ATO from 31 March 2021. The ATO will have the ability to send electronic requests via SuperStream to superannuation funds for the release of money from a members account. > The instant asset write-off threshold for small business es (with a combined turnover of less than $10 mil) will be increased to $30,000 for eligible assets that are first used, or installed ready to use, from 2 April 2019 o 30 June 2020. > In order to support small businesses with tax disputes with the ATO, the government will provide $57.5 million over five years from 2018/19 to the Department of Jobs and small Business, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the ATO to provide access to a fast, low cost, independent review. Although small businesses with 19 or less employees have till 30 September 2019 to switch to STP reporting system, the ATO advises small business owners not to wait until the deadline; especially to the businesses without cloud accounting software as they will be required to get a STP-enabled software to report their pay run online. However, the ATO guarantees that they will roll-out resources to help business owners directly or through their agents; especially for people who dont speak English as a first language, and is committed to help owner-operators who need advice in-language by providing translating and interpreting services on 13 14 50.
