24.01.2022 Specific training will give you the best results in the smallest amount of time. Doing one or two key weekly sessions is exciting and keeps you training with purpose. Here's a few key tips: - Add in a hard effort into your long run. This develops your V02 max and allows you to train while you are fatigued - a key element in getting the most out of your sessions.... - Specific training is key! Try doing a 5km run at race pace, followed directly by a decent length trail run. This is what I do quite often, and I find it works well for me. Improve your trail running today! #ultratrail #trailrunning #strava #miler #strength #conditioning

23.01.2022 Some single track Friday! Combo run - road - trail and sand all covered. 34km in total with some sand in this trail making it pretty challenging.

22.01.2022 Thanks beast. Hope to join you for a bit on the track

20.01.2022 Finished running around Australia with Run Down Under this morning! Thanks Travis and the team for this unique concept - My daily running kilometres were automatically applies to a route running through many towns and cities across the country finishing in Sydney. The 14000 plus kilometres started back on new years day 2019.

20.01.2022 Clearly beaten off the line! Having fun for a great cause Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) running the Rotary ride or run bunker and back. Still it was a great test and welcomed the first of some warmer weather. This year funds were raised for two research projects "Sports concussion" and "Ovarian Cancer" thanks to all that supported in so many ways

20.01.2022 Timely reminder! Unfortunately due to State border closures here in Oz, I wasn't able to take part in this years @brisbanetrailultra. Well done to all you awesome trail runners that took part. This was definitely one of the craziest days for me in 2019. Up at 3am, I ran all day, then just made my flight home that evening by mere minutes. Perhaps I did cut it a bit fine! Whilst I did come 1st overall in the 110km event, this was one of those races where I really learnt so muc...h, which has already helped me to improve. Mud in my sock ripped skin off my heel, in pouring rain i managed a temporary fix to get into the next checkpoint over an hour away. Vivid memories of the real pain and frustration of a mend on the run literally as I lost more and more time , I wasn't leading anymore. But I persisted, kept calm and prevailed. What have you had to deal with and overcome in your races? 17.01.2022 Hills and stairs - Shorter steps and even paced is how I like to run UP. Of course this does change on shorter sections or in certain race scenarios but generally stay tall, take even paced shorter steps, power up the hills and run over them..... One more tip on the stairs, you should stay low/tall or combo it! 17.01.2022 So what’s more important? To be physically prepared or mentally prepared when taking on an ultra? . . . I definitely don’t agree with it’s 90% mental that is often thrown about. ... . . . But I definitely live by the view that you cannot have one without the other and expect YOUR great result - I guess just like this double rainbow I saw the other afternoon as I finished my weighted stair set. . . That’s why I’ve created a race plan template to go with your training plan and in it we help you cover off a series of tasks you need to put in place to make sure you are mentally prepared. It STARTS with your goals but that’s just to give you some direction #ultrarunning #mentalstrength #achieveyourimpossible #achieveyourgoals . . . Been a lot of talk about goals at this time of year, I’ve been refining mine to share and I’d love to see yours See more

14.01.2022 GOALS GOALS GOALS - What are your GOALS for 2021. Write them out - Commit - SMART is a good start - Understanding those intrinsic vs extrinsic drivers are crucial, this is the starting point in your RACE PLAN. Launching later this week are your templates to build your own. Much more coming - stay tuned for 2021. #ultramarathon #athletic #trailrunning #strengthandconditioning #strava #ultrarunner #ultratrailrunner

11.01.2022 Determination and focus. Easier said than done but it's possible and what can set you apart. As best as possible I stick to my race morning routine, planned well in advance and made easier by having documented my race plan. 11.01.2022 Working out with the new Suunto 9 features. Hill or stair repeat sessions are tracked easily on one screen keeping me accountable on key sessions. @suunto #AdventureStartsHere #Suunto9 Also attached 3 sessions I have repeated within a week trying to keep my climbing speed 30 metres per minute for approximately 25 minutes. Today was a double set - 21 stair repeats in the am with an easy run and repeated pm where I hit a speed closer to 32.

10.01.2022 Goals are important. They provide you the ability to build a plan and work towards achieving it. Im sharing with you an extremely effective way to do this in the coming days! If I can say something first - achieving lofty goals provides a bigger sense of achievement, you have to be congratulated on your courage to have a go, its going to be hard though, many hours, days of sessions ahead. Aching muscles, tiredness, challenging weather and so much more. But its not nearly as challenging if you are aware of what you love about it. Take 5 to actually remind yourself or work out what it is that you love about training, then its becomes easier, a habit leading to consistency and then crushing it! Im going for it again this year! And Ill be helping as many of you that dare to join me!

10.01.2022 One of many running favourites this year @purerunning.com.au this ones at the start of a night run with @chezhayward in what was supposed to be the lead@up to @marathondessables. Nature put on a spectacular sunset as we ran into the darkness, a timely snapshot as the colours appeared - this was literally days before the pandemic was declared!

08.01.2022 Technical Trail - don't let it daunt you. Here's my key tips when handling technical terrain: - Adjust your running rhythm depending on how long the technical section is. If it's short section, maintain a steady rhythm when running up hill taking small steps if possible - Walking the longer sections though can be better overall. If your running down a technical section... - Brace - get your arms out and be prepared for larger bounding steps if you are confident BUT don't look down right in front of yourself all the time, this prevents your ability to see whats ahead and it changes your body position leading to an overloading of certain muscles and the introduction of that cursed braking motion! Lets improve our trail running ability everyday! #ultramarathon #athletic #trailrunning #strengthandconditioning #strava #ultrarunner #ultratrailrunner

08.01.2022 Something that you can all take part in team.

07.01.2022 How many sessions should you do a week? As a guide, checkout this clip. Notice the additions of functional strength and recovery sessions because, becoming a complete runner isn't all about the running, even more so if you are wanting to become the best trail runner you can be. Of course it becomes a lot more specific for many from here but this is a great start to laying a foundation you can launch off.

05.01.2022 Here’s an excellent drill to help you hold better running form for longer, whilst it's got a few names, lets call it the A Skip March Drill. Standing tall - arms in a running motion - lift one leg up and then down scraping the ground with your forefoot as you make contact, like a horese stomping on the ground, gradually move into a more dynamic form of this drill. It helps you reinforce the point where your foot hits the ground under your centre of gravity reminding you of an efficient stride which over time could just really help your running. 03.01.2022 Recovery! Ice baths, cold water post session are part of the weekly routine! Looking forward to getting back into the Cryotherapy with @SMR too shortly, an awesome Christmas present from my on the ground runners with @runlabhq. #ultramarathon #athletic #trailrunning #strengthandconditioning #strava #ultrarunner #ultratrailrunner

03.01.2022 In 2013 fresh off a Road 50km race, I had a bit of a break in my road running races. @UTA had for the first time introduced a shorter 50km trail running event. I got a ticket and lined up hoping that my road running endurance would allow me to run this race well. Yes, I did do well but OMG those last 10 kilometres made me realise just how different these longer trail endurance events were. Many leanings that day starting with - it's not easy being alone for so long! 02.01.2022 Coast2Kosci 2020. Stoked to be selected for the return of this epic mainly road Ultra this December. Excitement gave way to focusing on the task at hand, and that was even just over the short phone call I received letting me know I was lucky enough to get one of the 50 places. I'm grateful to have a real goal to focus on. Im physically ready to go for the course FKT, its now a matter of being able to prepare as best I can mentally for this epic 240km! #ultras #ultramarathons #FKT #fastestknowntime #coast2kosci #mentalstrength

02.01.2022 Aim high be agile. A few days in and the goals have been altered slightly. That and our governments lack of a solid plan to squash outbreaks ! . . . Thankful to be in Australia right now. I think about all the runners I’ve met around the world and how they are handling their challenges right now.... . . . See more

01.01.2022 After training with the team at @airlockertraining_newcastle for 6 weeks I feel awesome and definitely ready to go for the FKT of @coast2kosci Ultramarathon. Big thanks to Roman and the team, I'm very grateful to have such a facility behind me. 7 Days to go until #coast2kosci !

01.01.2022 When I realised that Coast 2 Kosci was returning this year, with so many events cancelled and international travel bans in place I was determined to give this my best shot. The first piece of information I checked out on the website was the current record. That was my goal, to try and better that time. My motivations include seeing how far I can push myself, inspiring others to aim for their best running and show the training I do and have done, it's structure and my mental prep strategies all combine to produce a result that i'm satisfied with and that can help many others no matter their level.

01.01.2022 Footage that was seen on the local news tonight (no sound) this is a great sneak peek of the future video to come stay tuned...... #bunkerandback #charitybikeride #mountainbike #mountainbikeride #crosscountryrunning #run #running #runinglife #bikelife #mountain

01.01.2022 We put together a mini race series and called it the Everest! 5 Weekends of challenging trail runs chasing elevation. Right in the heart of my home town Newcastle - we finished with a 1 or 2 hour challenge running as far as you could on this super challenging 1.25km circuit - These photos show the varied terrain on the loop. The runners that took on the series and yesterday's runs all said it was one of the toughest but most rewarding runs they have ever completed. Congratulations and thank-you to Pure Performance Tailwind Nutrition Australia Runlab so we are doing it again in 2 weeks - its called the Wildcross series Salomon Running

01.01.2022 It happens and life can be pretty busy at times, we cannot always train out on the trails for as long as we would like. Here are three tips for efficient Ultra training. You can get good strength adaptions by supersetting your functional strength sessions, loading up the same muscle groups over a few key exercises will give you good timely adaptions. You can also break up your longer trail run by either running twice in a day or over two days. Alternate long runs between Ro...ad one weekend and Trail the next. Adapting your sessions to complement your lifestyle will only mean you are more likely to stick at it, after all - your doing this because you want to, so make the changes that make you feel in control.
