18.01.2022 DON'T FORGET THOSE TIPS, TIPSTERS!!!DON'T FORGET THOSE TIPS, TIPSTERS!!!

18.01.2022 Hockey needs to grow and be sustainable in the ever growing corridors of metropolitan Melbourne. HV's post reminded us of a poll we ran a few months back and we've decided to repost. In a nutshell, where do you think HV should concentrate on developing hockey in and around Melbourne? https://forms.gle/psPiScbrm17LQYqPA

17.01.2022 We have two under 18 mixed teams running this year, and have space for a few more players. A great fun environment to play hockey with great coaches. If you or ...your friends would like to join our mixed gender under 18 teams, let Sarra our under 18 co-ordinator know on [email protected] See more

12.01.2022 CONFIRMED: Gippsland Bulls officially pull out of VL. A sad day for hockey

11.01.2022 Round 6 is done, we are officially 1/3rd of the way through the regular season and one has ask..... Is Geelong one of the best teams to play VL1 since 2014? Who knows, but the stats tell a story. HG have opened 2021 like no other. 5 wins on the trott isnt something to take for granted but posting 25 goals and only allowing 2 in the process is different. Only 3 clubs (2 of which are currently playing PL) have had perfect returns in the first 6 rounds in VL1. Brunswick in '14 ...and '17, MUHC in '15 and Geelong in '19 and 2021. Brunswick in 2014 may have started off with a lazy average of 6 goals a game but this years Geelong isnt too far behind with 5gpg. The biggest difference between these 2 sides is goals allowed - 2014 Brunswick had slipped 8 goals at 1.33gapg while 2021 Geelong have been stingy in defence to say that least only allowing 0.40gapg. Attack wins you games, defence wins you titles. Alex Ferguson The VLHS certainly does not want to put the kibosh on this amazing streak but if Geelong can see off Mentone in an away match up in a few weeks there is no reason why they couldn't end up at the end of the season with a perfect record. The first VL1 outfit to do so. No doubt the excitement is brewing in G-town, with the reserves sitting in 2nd and the 1sts smoking in one of the hottest streaks in VL history, the reality that Premier League could be a possibility is getting bigger with each game played. However, Geelong should not be getting all the credit, both Casey and Caroline Springs are on 6 game winning streaks and tearing it up in VL2 and VL3 respectively. Casey are the first club in VL2 to end round 6 with a 100% record knocking off previous best starts by Mornington (2016), MHSOB (2019), and Gippsland (2016) opening who were all sitting on 5-0-1. Caroline Springs' perfect start puts them along side ECHO (2014) and Old Melburnians (2016) as one of only 3 clubs to hold the record.

10.01.2022 Great news for the Knox Hockey Club that funding has been secured for Stage 1 of finding a new home for the club. At Monday night's Council Meeting the 2020/21 ...Budget was adopted which included $125,000 funding for planning and design as well as community consultation for a new home for hockey in Knox. It's been fantastic working with team at the Knox Hockey Club over the last 18 months, advocating for securing this funding. Excited to be able to deliver a result. #outwecometoplay

09.01.2022 Good morning VLHS'ers. A lone leader is breaking from the pack in regards to our hockey expansion poll we posted a few days ago. 07.01.2022 5 rounds down for the VLHS Tipping Competition and there's no doubt we have some Nostradamus' in the race. Somohten and Sooky lala both sit pretty in 1st with 23 tips a piece while Bigbigsound (22) breathes down their necks in 2nd. Worm and tOnie had a great rounds of 5 which sees them move up to 4th and 5th respectively.... **Please be aware that we have edited the VL2 and VL3 bonus tipping games for rounds 6, 7 and 8. If you have already made tips for those rounds make sure you update your games. **We'll continue to make rolling changes to those VL2 and VL3 fixtures to include games that are predicted to be close, thus harder to tip. Happy tipping and good luck!!!

07.01.2022 Hello all, we at the VLHS hope you are all well and coping in these difficult times. We do apologise for not keeping the page active over the past few months but, unfortunately, like everyone here, life has thrown some curve-balls and VLHS content has been shifted to the bottom of life's priorities. But it is now time to dust off the keyboard and start posting again.... With stage 4 restrictions in place in metro Melbourne, including a ban on traveling more than 5km from your home to exercise, it brought up the idea of looking at areas of Melbourne that are currently not within 5km of a hockey pitch. * Where are these areas? * Could hockey do with some further expansion into these areas? * Is there room for more new clubs in the future? Attached is a graphic showing a 5km radius around current pitches (red circles). The opaque red shade is a basic heatmap of pitch coverage. The more opaque the shade, the more pitches fall within the 5km radius of that area. The white shaded areas are residential regions of Melbourne that currently are not within 5km of a pitch. Facebook has removed the option for polls so please find a link to the form below. It will take less than a minute. https://forms.gle/psPiScbrm17LQYqPA

05.01.2022 Well, it's that time of the year - the start of September calls, as does the lure of hockey finals, usually..... 2020 had different plans for us unfortunately, and now we sit wondering what could of been? Instead, the VLHS looks at what has been. We grabbed some stats from finals results 2015-2019 and looked at which club... is king in when the finals roll on in and what club isn't. Our list includes all clubs that have played in the Vic League structure, as well as those who's first XI play beneath it. Premierships won in pennant or metro before a club enetered the Vic League structure have been counted as well. Straight away we see that only 3 clubs have won more that 1 premiership since 2015. Greater Dandenong Warriors Hockey Club, Old Melburnians and Craigieburn Falcons Hockey Club all have 2 grand final winning pennants hanging in the their club rooms. Between the 3 clubs, not one has dropped a single game in finals. ECHO Hockey Club (9), Werribee Hockey Club (8), Hockey Geelong (8), Bayside Hockey Club (8), Old Xaverians Hockey Club (7), PEGS Hockey Club (7) and St Bede's Hockey Club (7) have played the most games in finals with ECHO and St Bedes having the unwated record of the most losses in finals at 7 and 6 respectively. St Bernards, who have traditionally been one of the stronger clubs during the regular season hold the forgettable record of being the only club to play in 3 grand finals and lose them all. Aside from Old Melburnians who were due to play MetB in 2020, Hume Hockey Club are the most successful of the non Vic League clubs having won the club's first flag in their inaugural season (metB) back in 2017. 4 finals wins in 2 campaigns sees them well ahead of other non Vic League clubs Old East Malvern and Old Carey who have 1 each.
