23.01.2022 Lets just bust a few myths around Domestic Violence. MYTH: Women should just leave abusive relationships REALITY: Its not that easy. Women stay in abusive relationships for many reasons:... Fear the violence will get worse if they leave, they will be followed and harmed Intimidation and control by male partner Believing violence is normal Financial dependence Social embarrassment Lack of self-confidence Isolation Cultural background Religious and moral values Concern for children Family pressure Lack of community support

23.01.2022 MYTH: Violence doesnt impact on children. They dont remember it and are too young to understand what is going on. REALITY: Children can be physically and emotionally harmed by violence at any age. It impacts on childrens... self-esteem, confidence, education and their future relationships. Children may learn violent behaviours and continue them as an adult. Or they may think violence is normal and continue to experience it as adults. With the right help and support, children can recover. See more

17.01.2022 I regularly talk about the fact I love living and working in these wonderful community. Part of that is the support that small businesses in the area show towards each other. One of the most caring small businesses in our community is #twobutchers. Steve, one of the owners, is now embarking on the fight of his life, to kick Cancers butt. We are all behind you Steve, and will continue to support you in any way we can. Stay strong Steve, if anyone can beat this - you can! #wearewithyousteve

15.01.2022 If anyone has seen Jenny, please contact Phil Cutcliffe.

15.01.2022 Threatening to or actually harming your pet, can be considered to be an act of domestic violence. This behaviour is not ok! If you have fears for your safety or the safety of your pets, please contact our office for assistance. We can refer you to the wonderful work of the RSPCA QLD in their Pets in Crisis Program, who can help you temporarily rehome your animals until you are able to safely care for them. https://www.rspcaqld.org.au///Pets%20in%20Crisis%20Program

15.01.2022 MYTH: Only certain types of men are violent. REALITY: Men who use violence come from all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds and family situations. Mens violence against women occurs across Australia... and across all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, educational levels, occupations, socio-economic statuses and sexual orientations. 15.01.2022 Culture is never and excuse for violence. Domestic and/or Family violence is not acceptable in any community or culture. Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women share many issues and experiences in common with non-CALD Australian women in relation to domestic and family violence and sexual assault CALD women are less likely to report violence, can experience more barriers in accessing support services, and are less likely to leave a family violence situation than o...ther Australian women, due to following factors: - Understanding of Australias laws, rights and cultural norms, especially by new arrivals - Familiarity with knowledge of support services - Availability and accessibility of support services - Resolving immigration status and eligibility for support services and payments - Cultural beliefs and norms about gender and marriage - Capacity of community and religious leaders - Standards in interpreting and translating There is help available. You are not alone.

13.01.2022 Yesterday our Principal recorded part one of the College of Law series on domestic violence. Kath had some very insightful and useful conversations with a Magistrate from the Brisbane Magistrates Court and a QPS officer. The take home points were in relation to non-lethal strangulation and the importance of asking the correct questions. Next week Kath is recording part two, when she will talk to a solicitor working with Womens Legal Service and a support worker from the Mag...istrates Court. Does anyone have any questions they would like to put forward to the panel?

12.01.2022 It been a month of supporting other local businesses for us, both professionally and personally. Thanks to Zest Mortgage Solutions for helping us secure our mortgage, McNamara Law for helping us buy our house, Aquashield Bathrooms for repairing our showers and today Loles Barber Shop for giving our boys the best haircuts. Businesses in this area are the best! #greaterspringfield

12.01.2022 This is such a true post from Red Rose Foundation Australia. Only today we have worked with a client to get safety planning from Domestic Violence Action Centre and Legal Aid Queensland to create a "process" to get her and her children out of the home safely and take steps to obtain a Protection Order to ensure their safety moving forward. Leaving is not the easy option. It is hard and it is very unsafe! #enddv #changetheending #fightingdv

11.01.2022 Its this kind of feedback that keeps us passionate about people! Thanks Phil.

10.01.2022 During May, we recognise Domestic Violence Prevention Month and to contribute, the College of Law has produced a FREE on-demand video series to assist practitioners to best support clients affected by domestic violence. This was facilitated by our Principal, Kath. This information is increasingly important in the current environment as social distancing or home isolation can be a particularly worrying time for those who dont find their homes to be a safe place. 06.01.2022 When separating or divorcing one of the most heartbreaking aspects is the kids and how your relationship split will affect them. There are a number of things to consider when making a parenting agreement: the age of the child, who is best placed to provide their day-to-day care, special needs the child may have e.g. medical and schooling,... educational needs, practical considerations e.g. around accommodation, transport and expenses, the cultural needs of the child, the child’s own views, and the safety of the child. As children grow, and their needs change, parents may have to update their parenting agreement. If you need help give us a call at VM Family Law See more
