25.01.2022 Last night all 3 of our vessels took part in a SAR (search and rescue) exercise on Moreton Bay, 5 senior crew members where being assessed.Conditions where not great which made it a perfect evening to show off their knowledge of their search patterns, SAR knowledge and their ability to command vessels to get the best outcome for the simulated lost vessels and passengers. Well done everyone involved
24.01.2022 It was a busy day on the water today at VMR Bribie. First a Bribie 1 assist to an 8m cruiser with engine problems, towed back to Scarborough. Then off to another 8m cruiser with engine troubles at Bulwer, taken back to Pacific Harbour. While this was happening, Bribie 2 was dispatched to Tangalooma to bring a 5.5m boat back to Spinnaker, and to top it off a tinny towed back form Spinnaker to the base. Big day and everyone happy to be back safely.
24.01.2022 Now is the time to make sure if you have a boat on a mooring or at anchor that it is secure check all ropes and chains and make sure everything is safe. If anyone sees anything on the water that could be a hazard please call the base immediately on 3408 7596 this service is 24hrs.
24.01.2022 Volunteer Marine Rescue Bribie Island did one of its Community Presentations yesterday to about 40 people on Local Knowledge of the Pumicestone Passage and Moreton Bay. Gary Voss one of VMR Bribie’s Commercial Coxswains conducted the presentation on all aspects of boating in these areas, understanding the channel markers , tide differences, problems of moving sandbanks, best options for lifejackets and rules and regulations regarding Whale Watching and general boating safety. Gary said it is important for boat owners to know their vessel limitations and to the check weather conditions before venturing out for the day.
23.01.2022 Bribie 2 heading back to base yesterday arvo just as the wind started to pick up.
23.01.2022 Local knowledge is something the crews have to update all the time due to ever changing conditions in the passage and creeks.Red Sunday took a trip up Elimba Creek at dead low tide to see how conditions had changed.
23.01.2022 Some footage of the journey to Bulwer in the early hours of this morning it’s was not the best conditions.
22.01.2022 Here at the base we have just put down some new floor signs reminding everyone to keep 1.5m from each other please when you come to base please follow all signs to keep our amazing volunteers safe.

21.01.2022 KNOW IT Today is the first day of National Safe Boating Week, and the first of the steps we will share for the week is 'Know It'. Safe boating means knowing the... limits of your vessel. Before you go, make sure your boat is river or seaworthy and appropriate for your chosen activity. You can get more information here: www.amsa.gov.au/know-it #lifejacket2work #safeboating #safeboatingweek #boating #boatlife #boats #boat
21.01.2022 STATE OF ORIGIN 6pm Wednesday 11th November 2020 31 members attended our second social function since February this year. Leona, Sharyn, Brenda and Sheryl from the Social Committee served pies, hot dogs and toasties, whilst Peter, Heather and Wayne manned the bar. Despite the Maroons scoring the first try, it was the Blues leading 18-4 at half time. The Blues continued their dominance in the second half to equalise the series 1 all, winning 34-10.... Is this the NRL’s script to ensure a live 3rd game and associated income!!!! Here’s hoping it wasn’t a genuine effort on behalf of the Maroons!
20.01.2022 We talk a lot about servicing inflatable Life Jackets but there are also the old faithful foam filled life Jackets that we see a lot of on vessels . A lot of the time these are stashed away in the boat they get wet and sun damaged and forgotten about these need to be checked annually too. As you can see from the picture they DO deteriorate over time and these have only been stored in a garage ! Check the life jacket for signs of:... Sun Damage Fading Rips Check the buckle works Inspect straps for any deterioration If reflective strips are attached make sure they are clean and undamaged. Make sure the whistle works. Look after the equipment that will look after you.

17.01.2022 A vessel had become stuck on a bank on the outgoing tide during the day so we returned around 11.30pm to make sure the vessel was able to leave the bank and navigate the shallow water back to their mooring. It was a perfect night with lake like conditions and not a breathe of wind.A timely reminder to always check your tide times before heading out on the water.
17.01.2022 Training never stops at VMR Bribie an Skipper Ian Grimes seen here doing some navigation training with the Red Saturday Crew members.

16.01.2022 DFD (Doggy Flotation Device) Safety Dave the Frenchie is trying to explain to Baby Barb that she needs a life jacket, but she can’t go in the boat unless it’s a perfect fit she has a bit of growing to do first. A day trip to an Australian beach or a boat trip with your beloved pooch can be a wonderful way to celebrate the warm weather. But before you get in the car and go, make sure you have a dog life jacket packed to keep your puppy safe when you hit the water.... Make sure it is the correct snug fit and make sure they can not slip out, having a grab handle is great way to be able to retrieve your fur baby if needed. See more

13.01.2022 A bit of sad and happy day for the Team at VMR Bribie yesterday when Phil Couper one of the Red Saturday Crew Member put on a BBQ for his fellow crewmembers and friends at VMR Bribie to say thanks for all of their help of the years. Phil has not been lost to the VMR Family but has moved to Gladstone to live and has already signed up and volunteering with VMR Gladstone . VMR Bribie Team members from all sections of our operations dropped by to share a sausage sizzle with Phil and wished him all the best for the future.
13.01.2022 Knots, knots and more knots.
12.01.2022 Crew training out on Moreton Bay learning the skills for night assists, the Bay is a very different place at night and continual training is fundamental in keeping the crew skills up to date.
12.01.2022 Wayne prepared for his trip with Ian, and hoping to avoid mud on their way to Port of Brisbane on Saturday 7th November.
11.01.2022 Now this is what makes our VMR Bribie Island Family so amazing... Graham has recently just had his hip replaced and has had a small break from duties, but nothing can hold him and his wonderful wife Leona back from fundraising and getting back into the swing of things. We would like to thank them from all the VMR Family we have really missed them and we are so pleased see them back on deck.

10.01.2022 Calling all Queensland water-lovers to do your part and be SharkSmart!
10.01.2022 Police say the rescue of eight people, including four children, whose catamaran sank near North West Island off Gladstone, in central Queensland, could have been a "completely different story" had they not had life jackets and an activated EPIRB.
09.01.2022 And the conditions are perfect.
09.01.2022 You cant afford to buy another boat, but you have a 1000 litre pod hanging around in the garden. This is genius
09.01.2022 Another great result
07.01.2022 It's not to late to enter your Boat or Jet Ski in the Christmas Light Parade on Saturday 5th December from 7pm. Come join the festivities
06.01.2022 STATE OF ORIGIN III Wednesday 18th November 2020 6pm Only 24 members attended for this final Origin match of 2020. The Maroons led 12-6 at half time and continued to win the game 20-14 and accordingly the series 2-1.
06.01.2022 Bribie 1 and Bribie 3 in Deception Bay for a SAR Exercise. Bribie 2 took the video!
06.01.2022 Do you know what the bulbous bow is for? It will affect the way the water moves around the hull. Specifically, with the bulb the waves generated by the hull, and the waves generated by the bulbous bow, will cancel each other out, basically flattening out the waterline, the new results are less drag, as well as less therefore fuel consumption. It only works for certain types of ships that travel at certain speeds
05.01.2022 Forever in our thoughts, forever we honour them.
04.01.2022 About 2 weeks ago a new water pump was installed by Leighton Cameron from Seapen in the Seapen used by Bribe Two . The Seapen system saves money on maintenance on the vessel hull's. A big thumbs up and smiles from everyone as it pumps out for the first time.
04.01.2022 VMR Bribie Commodore Liz Radajewski and Committee Member/Rescue Boat Crew member Karen Darlington spent some time with the ladies from the Dragon Abreast Bribie Island Club recently . Karen went for a paddle with the group in the morning to get a greater understanding of their on water activities and Commodore Liz did a Boating Safety and Local knowledge talk in the afternoon. The Dragon Abreast paddlers recently had to call on VMR for assistance after finding some mud flats... that got in their way. Commodore Liz said It was great to have the opportunity to talk to all the various groups around Bribie about boating Safety. and in particular thanked Dragon Abreast ladies for their Mission to Encourage wellness, fitness, fun and camaraderie for breast cancer survivors through the sport of dragon boating and promote breast cancer awareness throughout our community. We would also like to thank the Ladies for their very generous donation Dragons Abreast Australia See more

03.01.2022 Handling a vessel another skill set that is practiced at every available moment 2 bouy’s where placed in the water and Bribie 2 and Jonkers Bribie 3 manoeuvred around the bouy’s at different speeds and even in reverse .Its rumoured that the lady on the crew beat all the boys on the reversing challenge
01.01.2022 Beautiful morning on the Passage! To fish or swim???
01.01.2022 White Saturday is your on call crew it looks like it’s going to be a cracker of a day.Don’t forget if your heading out on the water today to LOG ON with your local VMR or Coast Guard.
01.01.2022 Do you know about this boat? Let us know if you know who owns it or what the story is.
01.01.2022 Training on crew days is critical for the crew to give them the skills to deal with the many different situations they find themselves at sea. Many of you will see us on the Passage towing a vessel, Green Saturday spent some time pretending to break down in Jonkers Bribie 3 and were picked up by Bribie 2 as you can see Lindsay was quite distressed at breaking down
01.01.2022 Some more good advice from QLD fisheries. Anyone recognise where this was filmed ?
