24.01.2022 Ella is a 29 year old woman who has worked very hard with her carer to raise money for North Stradbroke Island VMR. They run a stall at the markets at Point Loo...kout with craft that has been crocheted, knitted and sewn and it is called Nanna Does Craft because it is Ella’s grandmother, Elaine, who makes the things they sell. So far with Ella selling and Elaine creating, they have raised $850 and this is an ongoing operation. On Charlie Crew’s weekend, on a Sunday morning we took Ella and her dad, Dan on a cruise up to Day’s Gutter in Deranji to show them how much we appreciate their wonderful support. Ella’s mother Meredith told me how grateful she is that we did that and how much they enjoyed their time on Deranji. I think it is ironic that they are so grateful when they are doing so much for us! It really is amazing that there are such great people out there in our community who are so willing to support us. We are very lucky.

21.01.2022 Police say the rescue of eight people, including four children, whose catamaran sank near North West Island off Gladstone, in central Queensland, could have been a "completely different story" had they not had life jackets and an activated EPIRB.

21.01.2022 146 crab pots have been seized by Gold Coast QBFP. Officers recently teamed up with the Gold Coast Waterways Authority to remove derelict crab pots from the... Southport Sundale Bridge to the Logan River. Don’t lose your pots! Crab pots must be marked with the user's surname and address and your gear should be removed from the water when you finish up. Crab pots that are left in the water continue to 'ghost fish' and can trap crabs, fish and other animals like turtles and even birds. You can report abandoned and unmarked crab pots by calling the 24-hour Fishwatch hotline on 1800 017 116 (toll free within Queensland).

20.01.2022 Department of Transport and Main Roads - Maritime Safety Queensland - NOTICE TO MARINERS

20.01.2022 Radio Channel 16 is for Emergency communication. If you need to contact another vessel or shore station on Ch 16 for non-emergency reasons, please request chang...ing to an alternate channel after initial contact is made. Yesterday afternoon VMR Mackay was communicating with a vessel experiencing issues (everything worked out OK) and the RACQ CQ Rescue helicopter was in the air. However, there were also two vessels using Ch 16 to engage in a 5 min conversation about cooking breakfast and what time the boats should meet. This made communications very challenging. See more

19.01.2022 Put it in your diary.... We hear the big man in the red suit may be dropping in for a visit. Let's hope he doesn't crash in the mangroves again this year and our Volunteers need to come to his rescue...

19.01.2022 Use Caution at Our Entrance A good example of why boaties should be aware of Notice to Mariners 295(T) is in the photo taken of the assistance we provided to a ...yacht when it ran aground coming into Mooloolaba on Friday. It was the second one in two days. When coming in and going out stay well to the western side of the channel as the shoaling may have extended further west from when the last Survey was done on the 21st of August. It is also a good idea not to exit or enter at or near low tide if you have a boat with a large draft, especially when the low tides are almost at our Lowest Astronomical Tide (LAT) for Mooloolaba, which is virtually 0.0 metres.

18.01.2022 Good news for boaties on Moreton Bay

18.01.2022 A few days of warm and windy weather and the VMR Southport workload is already increasing. Yesterday we undertook four requests for assistance, including a jets...ki and rider who were almost washed onto rocks in the Seaway. A rapid response from our crews prevented this from happening. This morning we were called to assist Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) with a patient who had a nasty fall on a houseboat in the Broadwater. The man was complaining of severe rib pain, and was transported to hospital. VMR membership is only $77 per year. Don't get caught without it. www.vmrsouthport.com.au See more

14.01.2022 What a great day!

13.01.2022 Is your EPIRB up to date?

13.01.2022 Monday Motto - to gripe. We've all had a gripe about something at one time or another - did you know that this commonly used word has a maritime origin?

13.01.2022 Well done to all involved

13.01.2022 A great days racing at Scarborough Regatta at Redcliffe Brisbane. Thanks Scarbourough OCC for a great day filled with as much fun off the water as on the wate...r. We also managed to follow up with an awesome Christmas party combined with our hosts Volunnteer Marine Rescue. A cool fun night for over 100 people.

12.01.2022 Sandgate 1 today assisted a 18 foot power boat from just south of Tangalooma to Whyte Island boat ramp. Beautiful day out on the bay!

12.01.2022 Busy weekend for BTEAM #busybees Saturday provided superb weather and as a result Moreton Bay was very busy! Our volunteers had dozens of our boating communi...ty log on, and naturally this kept our radio room flat out for the day. In the morning ‘FreightPlus’ was tasked to Bramble bay to be the safety vessel for the outriggers regatta. Our volunteers were there all day, and did have to rescue one boat. The crew of one outrigger were taken onboard our rescue vessel and then crew towed their outrigger back to the boat ramp. All were safe Also on Saturday was the Moreton Bay Emergency services expo, held at Rothwell. Our rescue rib CG34, along with 2 crew were asked to attend. The volunteer crew reported a busy day, with plenty of interest across the services displayed. During the already busy morning activities, a call came through for a Medevac to Tangalooma. Two QAS paramedics accompanied our volunteers over to Moreton Island and brought back the patient and family members. NOW, while all this was happening, and our volunteers had 3 boats on tasks - yet another call came in from a broken down boat on the other side of Moreton island. This was going to stretch our duty crew, but as luck would have it.... VMR Brisbane Inc had a rescue vessel in the area doing familiarisation exercises and heard our radio chat with the disabled vessel. VMR Brisbane and Coast Guard regularly work together, so they towed the broken down boat back to Scarborough for us. This was much appreciated. On SUNDAY , the morning started with a 2 vessel assessment for one of our volunteer crew Simmo. Reports are, she flew through her holistic with flying colours - great work!! Shorty after completing the assessment, volunteers received a call from another broken down boat near Bulwer. Our rib CG34 and crew were dispatched to assist. Then around lunchtime, a much larger boat was having mechanical problems as it was passing the Scarborough Harbour laterals. So one of our vessels was dispatched to help guided it in, and assist with the berthing. Just as our volunteers returned to base, another call for assistance came in, for another vessel over at the Bulwer wrecks needing assistance. They were one of our marine assist members and were having engine problems. ‘Redcliffe Leagues 2’ was sent over to assist and towed the vessel back to Newport. While crew were assisting the above mentioned vessel back to Newport, more crew had been dispatched in ‘FreightPlus’ to bring back a 5metre half cabin, that had broken down about 2 NM off Scarborough reef. Safe to say, our duty team and all volunteers involved - deserved a nice cold drink and to put their feet up, after a very busy weekend! #volunteers #guardiansofthebay ______________________ Are you a Marine Assist member? 11.01.2022 Do you recognise this boat? It was found washed up at Clontarf around 4pm this afternoon.

11.01.2022 Foxtrot Crew was on duty today. The team decided to do a navagation training run from Tangalooma to Cape Moreton encountering Whales along the way. Later in the afternoon Sandgate 1 was called to assist a Waterside Assist Member who had broken down on the Brisbane River at Indooroopilly. Just as we arrived the vessel managed to get running again and we escorted it back to Breakfast Creek. On our way back to Base we stopped to refuel and then made our way back to Base to put the boat to bed ready for tomorrow's Crew.

10.01.2022 We had a boat Fire in Raby Bay today. VMR worked with QFS Cleveland and Capalaba. Skipper of the vessel was attended to by QAS and taken to hospital for observation.

08.01.2022 We hope everyone had a great weekend out on the bay! Thank you to those for logging on & off!

07.01.2022 Catch of the Day You're the trawler skipper and the net feels heavy. This is going to be a good haul. Well it was - just not what he was expecting. Remember in ...August when we rescued the two fishermen whose boat sank 20 nautical miles off Mooloolaba? Bet they thought they'd never see it again. Well not until the trawler's catch of the day was their boat. Hauled up, refloated and brought back to Mooloolaba, it now sits a bit the worse for wear at the Water Police pontoon. What are the odds of that happening?

06.01.2022 Marine search underway, Pine Rivers Brisbane Water Police launched a marine search and rescue operation this afternoon after an unattended dingy was located stuck in mudflats at Pine Rivers (during low tide). Water Police vessels, Rescue 500, and the police dive squad are currently searching the area.... The vessel was located on the northern bank of the Pine River, halfway between the Deep Water Bend boat ramp and the Pine River Bridge, Bruce Highway at around midday. To date, police are unaware of any missing fisherman/persons reports in relation to the vessel and are appealing to anyone who may recognise the dingy to immediately contact police. https://mypolice.qld.gov.au//marine-search-underway-pine-/

01.01.2022 Brisbane Water Police are warning all boaties and beach goers to consider staying away from the surf today and this weekend as strong wind is forecast. The windy conditions are already causing numerous vessels to drift, sparking the concern for safety. Officer in Charge of Brisbane Water Police, Senior Sergeant David Edden said people should avoid heading out on the water this weekend.... We are expecting extremely windy conditions this weekend, meaning we can also expect dangerous conditions out on the water, Senior Sergeant Edden said. Those already on the water should be sure they are carrying appropriate safety equipment and that they wear their life jackets. Ensure you check the security of any anchored vessels to make sure they are adequately prepared for the windy weather and strong swell. Weve already seen a number of vessels go astray. We just want to make sure that everyone stays as safe as possible this weekend. More information about weather warnings can be found on www.bom.gov.au.
