23.01.2022 Sunday 7th February saw a few assists for our volunteers. On Sunday morning rescue vessels Central Coast 13, 21 and 22 all headed out for a patrol of the local waterways. CC22 headed out down to Little Box to see what the conditions were like in Broken Bay. On their return to base, they were flagged down in the Blackwall area. The occupants on board advised that they were experiencing engine problems and requested a tow to Lions Park Woy Woy. The tow only took about 15 minut...es, and once it was complete all of the Central Coast rescue vessels made their way back to the Point Clare base. At around 1300 CC21 with Peter Alderton as skipper, and Hernan Ratto, Steve Duxbury as the crew headed out for another patrol. About half an hour into their patrol our radio operators received a phone call from a person on board a runabout that was experiencing engine problems in the Booker Bay area. CC21 was tasked to assist and headed to Booker Bay, they quickly found the vessel and commenced the tow back to Koolewong ramp. Once the tow was complete the crew on CC21 returned to base. Just after 1630 our radio operators received a call from a father on a personal watercraft (PWC), he advised that his son was on a different PWC near Little Box and was unable to start it. CC21 with Peter Alderton as skipper and Doug Fitzgerald, Hernan Ratto, Mitch Giles as crew were tasked to assist. Whilst responding to this incident, more information came through that the sons PWC was getting quite close to the rocks, given that the danger had escalated CC21 made their best speed to the incident. However once the crew made it to Little Box there was no sign of any PWC’s, the radio operators received information from the father that made the initial call. He advised that his son was now back on Ettalong Beach safe and sound. CC21 returned to base, they made it back to base at around 1730 so they washed the vessel down and closed it up. 20.01.2022 Exercise Airdrop II was held Wednesday 28th October 2020 on Botany Bay aimed at testing the police response and the adequacy of current procedures in a multi-ag...ency field exercise at Sydney Airport. It tested the realisability of the systems in place in case of a major emergency at the Airport. The exercise was conducted to ensure a timely and effective response to an emergency as well as the multi-agency approach to emergency management. Due to COVID-19 restrictions for flights at Sydney Airport this provided a rare opportunity for the emergency management exercise to be conducted adjacent to Sydney Airport. The exercise involved NSWP PolAir and Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopters deploying life rafts and winching survivors from the water. The exercise on-water involved over 20 marine vessels and included a marine search for missing survivors and recovery of 30 survivors from the proposed plane wreckage all of which was coordinated by the Marine Area Command. The exercise was a huge success and ensures all the agencies are well trained in the event of such an emergency.

20.01.2022 Last night Skipper Peter Alderton and crew Doug Fitzgerald and Megan Loaney chose to hone their night operation skills on board CC21. Doug is currently working towards his Leading Crew rating and part of that is being able to operate our vessels at nighttime. Megan is working towards her crew rating and also needs to gain experience of working at nighttime. All went well and they returned to base just after 2100.

18.01.2022 Expired Marine Flare Disposal Program Transport for NSW Maritime maintains a program to help boaters dispose of expired marine flares, with mobile collections set up across NSW. The Expired Marine Flares Collection Program for the 2020-2021 boating season is on again in November 2020, January and April 2021. Dates and collection locations can be viewed in the table below. ... Flares signal that you are in trouble and provide an exact location for searching aircraft or vessels. Only ignite them when rescuers are in view. It is an offence to set off flares except in an emergency Most flares have a use-by date of three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date. Flares contain explosive matter which makes safe and legal disposal difficult. This collection program provides the boating community with an opportunity to safely dispose of their out of date fares.

04.01.2022 RESTING "REG" A warning not to approach "Reg" who has taken up residence at Forresters Beach. It's the fur seal that was attacked recently by a dog at Lo...ng Reef on Sydney's northern beaches. ORRCA (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia) has been monitoring the mammal, and says the flipper up indicates he's thermo-regulating - hence the name Reg! A spokesperson is urging us not to approach the seal, as they can be aggressive. ORRCA

03.01.2022 This morning at around 1120 the radio operators at our Point Clare base received a call from the skipper of a motor cruiser. The skipper advised that he was experiencing engine problems around the northern end of Paddy's Channel. Central Coast 22 with Peter Alderton as skipper, Doug Fitzgerald and Trevor Phipps as crew were in the local area doing training and were tasked to assist. Once CC22 was on scene the skipper of the distressed vessel said that the engine was overheati...ng, and would appreciate a tow back to his mooring at Koolewong. CC22 finished the short tow. Once they started heading back to base our radio operators received another call for help. A runabout in Woy Woy channel was having engine troubles. Given that CC22 was on the water and not far away they were tasked to assist. While they were proceeding to Woy Woy channel our radio operators received a call from the skipper of the distressed vessel, the skipper advised that he was now able to get his engine started and did not require a tow. CC22 was stood down, and they proceeded back to base.
